Wow, my Tesla 3 video seems to be attracting a bit of attention. Not a ton, but it seems to be a fairly popular video still...

@PearsonArtPhoto it's hard for me to see things from the real beginner's perspective this is intended for. To me the pacing is slow, but that's me. I prefer very information dense videos with details. the only other thing is i disagree with most of the points. :P
It will get to be denser, but...
i don't think it's possible for a person to have an educated opinion as to which destination is best without seeing it in context. those could be later videos - why it's better than the moon or an orbital settlement.
Fair enough.

Huh. It seems like I can get a program to charge my car for only $0.05/kWh, if I agree to do it only at night. The cost goes up if I do it during the day.
16:55
That is a FUNNY graph.
as is often the case, the hover text is even funnier
@PearsonArtPhoto Which is normal. Load balancing is a real issue, and if they can keep the plants running at night, and do not need to run peak support plants, all is good. Smart way is when the cars can pump power back into the grid at peak and let you sell back to utility.
Yeah, makes sense.
Still, it is nice to know I can get half off, although it will take a bit of work to make it happen...
I think the tesla app lets you control when the car charges? I.e. Plugin but control when it draws power. Worth looking into that. Then woul dbe easy to plugin when you get home and control charging.
Yeah, I think so.
It isn't worth it if I have to wake up at 1:00 a.m. every day to plug it in!

Or you could put the circuit on an old mechanical timer, and leave it that way plugged in.
It's a special plug, at least for the high rate.
And if you are only going to charge for 4 hours/day, the high rate is kind of required.
But the timer goes, right at the power box, before the run to the plug begins. I know 110V is easily available. I think they make higher power run versions as well.
I'm 99% sure that Tesla supports time based charging.
I'll tell you what, when Tesla powerwall supports time based charging, it could be fun to charge the battery full during that time, use it during the day, and just save money.

Yes. Power arbitrage. Makes a LOT of sense in places like Australia with their power system and policies.

Daily Beast's Trump Wants a Space Station Orbiting Around the Moon less than stellar evaluation of the proposed Gateway

Time to find out if I can do complex video editing...
