Added miles per gallon.
01:17
My brother wants to do T-shirts for my site. Could be fun.

3 hours later…
04:13
Not official yet, but this is the first round. Any thoughts?

4 hours later…
08:17
@PearsonArtPhoto nice - the only thing that jumps out at me is that the visor could do with being darker for contrast :-)
Ye, I thought so too

2 hours later…
10:10
Not a bad idea. Will pass it on.
10:34
It’s Sol 5000 for Oppy!
4910 sols longer than my favourite piece of human creation was supposed to keep rolling for!

1 hour later…
11:42
I thought the team was a bit optimistic to add two zeros to the sol counter. Now I'm beginning to think that it might just be possible.
Hmm another 4000 sols would be quite a lot
Although I do have a question regarding how the team works and to what extent the original team is still there, maybe I’ll finally ask it
How acceptable are speculative questions asking about the feasibility of reaching a milestone for a spacecraft/rover/lander? Would it be ok to just ask slightly open-endedly? Or would it have to ask more specific to any issues it may have that will end it’s life early (except the Solar Panels, which an obvious limiting factor)
12:21
Just so people here are aware, Valorum (the top user on SFF) made some slight modifications to the advert and posted this: I think it looks snazzy, I guess if the community here dislikes it it can be downvoted, but it doesn’t have to be:

Love the design, hate the squashing.
Where did the crescent/sunrise/planets part of the design come from? Can the creator be asked to re-compose it for the aspect ratio?
@Edlothiad "How long will it last" is opinion bait; "what factors limit the expected lifespan" seems like a solid tech question -- we have several questions of that form already, so search a bit before asking.

4 hours later…
18:26
@RussellBorogove The creator was TildalWave, so - no.
@PearsonArtPhoto oh. those segmented circles look much better, and the animation is coming along nicely.
nobody cares about little sx.se in these interviews...
so, is whereisroadster going to pay for a family vacation?
19:13
Might pay for my next car, who knows.
Does a website pay that well?
It's not quit my day job kind of money, but it's not doing too badly.
And I've really barely touched monetization options.
100K views/day can make a decent amount of cash really.
Well the only site I've ever thought of making would never hit those numbers.
19:34
@PearsonArtPhoto i think this means you need to buy a Tesla :D
If I'm going to buy a new car from the site, of course it'll be a Tesla.
The only question is, which one.
I've been in the Model 3 queue for a while, but the lower end one.
I'm toying with switching to the higher one.
I doubt it would do well enough for me to seriously consider a Model S, but...

Wait, you're revenue-positive just with third party merch commissions?
Total cost so far is only the domain name, $13.
Google gave me a $300 credit for site hosting, which I have used $60.
I am buying a logo, which will be a significant expense, but I'll still be turning a profit.
I've even approached paying for my time.
Cool! i would have assumed the hosting/bandwidth costs would always and forever slightly outpace revenue unless you put an ugly amount of advertising on
The cost of data is about $0.12/GB.
I think a page view is about 1 MB, tops.
On average, you can get about $1/1000 views.
So there is the math for you.
Soon I'm hoping to have T-shirt sales and such.
21:49
@kimholder a slightly updated version:
@Edlothiad oh, i see what you did... yea, that helps. let me give you a hand by supplying a larger version. i left it because i figured you were looking for an alternate image.
This is all Valorum's doing, not mine
@Edlothiad oh. maybe i should hop over to your ssf chat and put it there...
He's not in chat actively, it's ok i'll update him!
@PearsonArtPhoto those t-shirts could certainly do well if they are really good. it gives the fans an outlet.
it makes sense to pay for a professional logo and make sure those look good.
it's like what Ediothiad said - guy sells 1500 mission patches but can only get 50.
22:00
My brother is a marketing professional, he's going to make the T-shirts.
22:13
This makes me think again about my hosting company's unlimited bandwidth policy. According to them, i don't pay extra no matter how much traffic i get. I have never searched around for the fine print on that, but it may be you can go pretty far on bandwidth without extra charges as long as their promise draws in enough small-fry to make the average cost to them attractive.
that's DreamHost. They are pretty big, which helps, but maybe that's why they are pretty big.
They might have essentially a CPU restriction.
Not quite sure how to make the labels. Probably a bit closer to the target, but...
I've also set it up so I can make the objects artificially bigger, although I'll make sure the user knows that is happening.
22:42
Making the stars smaller would help, so the objects that count are more apparent.
of course, that probably means actually rebuilding the star-field...
Yep.
I might be able to make it dimmer fairly easily.
What do you think of the labels?
cross-hairs might help, for the targets
the labels are awfully big
Yeah, that's what I thought. Can make them smaller.
Will try and come up with a way to indicate the objects of interest.
possibly carefully tweaking color selection would allow you to make the stars smaller instead of all dimmer, in gimp for instance.
The starfield I'm using was just provided, so...
Will think about what I can do for cross hairs, I do like that idea.
This is with each object increased in size by a factor of 18
23:02
This is with an absolutely huge FOV, but... I kind of like it.
