nice
00:58
Next up is to improve the dots.
01:46
Impressive increase in traffic recently. I wander if we can manage to keep some of the new visitors.
02:02
I don't think I need the labels, do you?
02:46
@PearsonArtPhoto it's always good to have labels. you have the space. there are always corner cases of people who are seeing it in black and white or some weird thing, and it helps.
@gerrit i think we'll keep some. after all, this should be the beginning of an ongoing increase in launches, and people are becoming more aware of the whole field. a week after the FH launch, we are still getting new people dropping in, i think it's all going to be good.
03:03
@kimholder Fair point. Will add some in.

1 hour later…
04:14
Should be good enough for tonight, might do more later.

6 hours later…
09:46
Could they not set up some sort of Euro/African operation where they just collect the FH core stages further down wind (near Africa) and just load up a boatload and ship them back?

4 hours later…
13:29
And now I am at 3 booster badges... Wow.
14:13
What is the format of a link, that SE can tell it was you how directed the inbound connection from?
14:27
The share link?
It seems like all they do is attach a /user-id to the end of the URL.
Oh. Never tried.
I usually use the share link for two reasons. First, I get credit. Secondly, I can point directly to an answer.
15:01
@PearsonArtPhoto You can technically point to an answer with the /posts/answer-id
But if you use share your user id gets appended and it does it like that.
It's easier to just use the share button.
That's true, I always do, and everyone who has booster badges and such certainly always does!
You could farm badges for everyone by changing the user-id it says on your webpage every 1000 views ;)
I actually use the share button even for stuff that never gets shared, not really. I use it for some mod stuff.
I doubt I'll pass all that many more views to the site...
Huh. Questions/day is still going up actually.
I don't think it will survive going up a week after the launch, but...
(I plot 7 day averages, FYI)
Page views are now at a "normal" higher end day, the type of views when we have a question or two that hits the hot network questions board.

2 hours later…
17:31
@PearsonArtPhoto just checking as that pic makes me think mine may not be working. I have the Roadster icon pretty much still on top of Earth. That's right, yes?
0.014 AU is only a couple of pixels away on the chart?
Yes, it is.
cool - I was trawling through my plugins and blockers in case I was breaking something. That pic up there is one of the views under close approaches, then?
The entire thing shows about a 4 AU space. Assuming the pixels are around 500 (It depends on the screen width), that would be about 1 pixel every 0.01 AU or so.
@PearsonArtPhoto got it. Thanks
It probably is, likely the close approach to Mars that is upcoming. I can't remember off the top of my head.

Are speculative questions allowed?
Meaning, can I ask "Would the N-1 have other uses than chunking cosmonauts to the moon?"
@CBredlow what do you mean? I can't parse that question. Do you mean the N1 programme that was cancelled in 1976
what do you mean by chunking
Chucking.
whoops, yeah typo. I mean would the N-1 rocket have other uses outside of the Soviet Manned Lunar missions, similar to the Saturn-V?
To be fair, beyond Skylab, what did the S-V have as other missions? :)
Lots of ideas, sure...
19:09
well, yeah, that's the question, what were those ideas?
19:23
Huh, so I guess you are technically supposed to ask before using Horizons data for projects. They probably will let anyone use it, but they at least want to know what you are doing with it.
So I just sent the team an email explaining exactly what I am doing with the data.
@CBredlow That would be an acceptable question.
I'm sure they won't have any issues with it, but... Maybe they will even be excited about it? Who knows.
@CBredlow Wet workshop space station. (Launch S-IV-B stage full, and use it to boost a much heavier space station to orbit. Then 'dry it ouot' and occupy the tanks where the equipment was immersed in the LOX). Super big probes to outer plaets.
S-V, no clue if N-1 had such ideas.
Actually, ask it, and I shall answer it. :)
I found the answer
But wait till after midnight UTC, as I am already Rep-Capped for today. :) And I want me some points.
I haven't rep capped for a few days.
Saw a Tesla Model 3 today. Saw one in STL as well. Walked aroound looking. Nice looking car.
The dash is cool.
Drove a Model X 100D (not P nor L). My son loved it. The acceleration off a highway ramp (only place I could gun it) was awesome. He really enjoyed watchig the car drive and park itself. That is pretty cool stuff.
I guess the biggest issue I was wanting to watch out for would be the 'primarily opinion based' question for speculation like that
19:42
It wouldn't necessarily be. There might well have been plans for its use that were documented, for instance.

1 hour later…
21:04
Thanks Hobbes for the protect, 9 answers saying the same thing was getting a little excessive.
21:40
@kimholder oic, the red progress bar was hidden behind the yellow "advertisement bar" i.sstatic.net/E3ZvT.png
...so I didn't realize it was set up to run. Thanks.
@uhoh oh yeah, i see what you mean
it's better to have the timestamp anyways.
does this pass?
That's quite cool!
i tried to modify some of the original Community Ads so they could be reposted in the new size format
without spending too much tme on it...
I have just the answer for you, courtesy of @RussellBorogove :)
@uhoh, do you remember the title of that 'canonical answer' question about this? i'm not sure how to search for it
37
A: How much bigger could Earth be, before rockets would't work?

Russell BorogoveBecause linear increases in delta-v require exponential increases in mass, small changes to the assumptions you make about fuel tank structural mass and engine thrust-to-weight ratio start to make very large changes in the final size of the rocket. For example, if you're getting off a 3.6g plane...

found it...
21:58
yep, this question was recently marked as duplicate to it.
@Edlothiad thanks. i think maybe i will post a meta question about it, because we haven't done this in a while.
...and I wrote this comment referring in part to your gracious bounty ;-)
@kimholder Thanks. I knew it sounded fishy. Unreasonable is not impossible ;)
@uhoh ;P

Q: Is this alright as a Community Ad? Any other proposals?

kim holderFor a while we posted Community Ads on other Stack Exchange sites to boost our traffic a bit. The original ones, from this post can no longer be used because the size has changed, and for the most part we don't have the files anyhow. I was able to get versions of the previous ones from TildalWa...

22:44
I just searched for footage of the habitation module of the soyuz when it is in use, but couldn't find any. It seems you can only find footage of the launch or landing. Is anoyne aware of something like that? The closest I could find was footage from the various ISS tours.
23:36
@flawr I have only seen the cosmonauts strapped into the descent module (launch or landing) and the hab when docked to ISS. Never seen them goofing before they get to the ISS in there.
