So I just got it "Before it was cool" hat. But no clue how/why I got it? I know I posted three questions, upvoted all the responses, and accepted 2/3. Made some comments as well.
00:27
@geoffc I added some tags to a few questions, including yours, so perhaps because I added some new tag? It would make sense considering the hat's name. You know, asking a question with some tag before that tag even existed...
or maybe by increasing visibility of some tag
you had three questions with "soyuz" today
Maybe 3 posts in one tag? Soyuz predates me.
well the name of the hat sounds "preemptive" to me
Hmm, try creating a new tag? Then see?
I.,e. post a question with a non-existant tag.
I believe I did that since the winter bash
aye the latest one about Quest airlock thermal hatch discoloration ... I added "quest-joint-airlock" tag
but I don't have that hat
maybe "creating a tag during winter bash that is later used by others"?
I can try adding that tag to old questions about the Quest (if there are any and it works for old posts too)
@Everyone you were asking many questions about what astronauts do during repressurization and similar here, why not ask some related question on the site and remember to include ? :P
(There might be a hat in it for me LOL)
@geoffc So... I have to think of a question do I? Hmmmm
TOTW is ....
how about something regarding its periscope and I add the tag for it then?
wait, on which part is the periscope installed, it's on the middle section, right?
00:57
Descent module, since the crew uses it during docking.
But maybe they do it from Orbital module? I dunno.
Look at my picture in this question.

Q: Why is the descent module of the Soyuz in the middle of its stack?

geoffcThe Soyuz is made up of three major components/modules. The Orbital module on top, basically a sphere, which is basically extra room, and contains the toilet, which allows for some modicum of privacy. It is discarded when reentering. (The Shenzou approach leaves its analog to this module o...

Descent module I think.
And the new TMA upgrade is supposed to replace the periscope with a camera.
Digital Soyuz. (Soyuz Soyuz Soyuz Soyuz Soyuz).
@geoffc Yes, it's the middle section. I'm now writing the question about it
@geoffc They have a camera now too, the docking cam... and funny enough, the cam is used as a backup if the periscope fails, but the periscope is called Backup Periscope (BCK-4) LOL
hey I got the hat ... now I don't know if I got it just as I posted the question, or before? Oh shoot

Darn you secret hats! You beguile and betwixt us!
How many hats did you need, to get the hat for having so many hats? :)
I have to admit, the hats really are fun. :)
02:04
@geoffc hehehe yes, that one is funny... It says 20
most of them are listed on the winter bash page: winterbash2013.stackexchange.com
with some secret ones missing... there's some mSO post for those, just a sec...

Q: Hats order guide (Spoilers)

insert clever xmas nameLast year, it seemed to me that hats were ordered (in the leaderboard) by the effort it took to get them (the rarity of the hat). I managed to guess the order last year. How are hats displayed in the leaderboard this year? If it is still by difficulty, can someone list the order below? E.g.: ...

Located some 25 million light-years away, this new Hubble image shows spiral galaxy ESO 373-8. Together with at least seven of its galactic neighbors, this galaxy is a member of the NGC 2997 group. We see it side-on as a thin, glittering streak across the sky, with all its contents neatly aligned in the same plane. We see so many galaxies like this — flat, stretched-out pancakes — that our

Was there a Soyuz 2.1v launch on Saturday?
19:47
yes
on Saturday UTC
BTW, I and Astro.SE got a mention in NASA / SDO blog sdoisgo.blogspot.com/2013/12/…
bloody brilliant, who cares if my suspicions were wrong, there was no way I could've known they have a filter defect LOL ... what matters is we get a good ad for the site

If you track the relative positions of Earth and Venus over an 8 year period, this is the resulting pattern. http://t.co/FyjIuZLQIw

@Hennes aye I've seen that, also check the orbital resonance of Haumea it's quite cool
of course, it's already posted on wiki LOL

Hmm, so ten chat messages, only two starred gets a hat?
What does it take around to get a drink?
Ooops, I mean a hat? Or is it, who do I have to sleep with around here to get a star for a hat? :)
@TildalWave Where are you from? How far 'behind' the Iron Curtain were you?
What is the I see your point? Or I'm not listening secret hats for?
If anyone is sharing...
@geoffc I'm from Slovenia which is the northern part of ex Yugoslavia. We were kinda "the mild commies" I guess, but in pretty good relations with the west all the time, and not so good with e.g. Russia, only perhaps Serbia from ex-Yu had good relations with them. My country was always oriented more towards the central Europe and North-West. Had some problems getting rid of the commies, but not too much
@Ti
pretty long ago now, I was still a kid when we broke apart
@TildalWave But then you had the joys of the Balkans splitting.
Ah.
@geoffc Balkan starts South of us, and is kinda a pejorative term here
23:10
Ah, then would you be considered Slavic, then?
My mom was born in Vilnius, during the war, and my grandfather fought in the forests with the partisan.
:12899982 Me personally no, and this is kinda a small place stuck into the under Alps region ... historically, it mixed a lot, from Venetians, Celts, Germanic tribes, Illirians, to later Slavs
The best kind! A little bit of everything!
but we had a democracy here in around 600 a.d.
So can I get me a comment star please? :)
That Chatty Kitty hat looks too cute to miss out on! :)
Commies were a bloody nuisance but it's now a thing of the past for most. It wasn't even close to how it was behind the iron curtain. I did live 3 years in one of those countries (not too long ago, still way after the regime fell), and the difference is even now huge
23:14
I can imagine. In theory, sounds like a good idea. Till it meets humans, then you realize it can never ever work.
Takes millions of dead, it seems before people realize that detail.
Thanks for the star, I think I need two. :)
@geoffc for which hat?
Been trying to think of more Soyuz questiuons to ask...
(Chatty Kitty?)
there you go... you should get it now
Chatty Chatty
post 10 messages in chat with at least two of them starred
Thanks.
The hat thing, really is alot more fun than I expected, both years now. :)
sure, no problem
23:17
Very clever the way they do it.
Wish the secret hats were easier to understand...
my first
I have no idea for some
I am close to getting the gold badge for 100 days of visits. Should be getting that on a bunch of sites in the next 10 days.
won't the hats only be here for maybe a week more?
I only get one shot a year where it is possible. Need to find 100 days, between the Jewish holidays, where sabbath ends before the SE ends.
Jan 4 I think is the hat end date.
(Before the SE day ends).
Ah well, hats have been fun. :)
I don't get it, what have Jewish holidays got to do with you visiting sites 100 days in a row?
23:19
Cannot use the computer on those days, and outside of Israel, are two days long.
So cannot get consecutive days. So in the fall, there are 3 sets of 2 day holidays, and 3 sets in the spring.
Oh, I didn't know that. But... you could write a script to open each site once per day, no?
I mean, can you leave the computer running?
Just turn off the monitor? :D
(Tradition is, since it is a lunar calendar, determined by visual moon sightings, the month could be 29 or 30 days long, so if you lived too far away, might not hear how long the previous month was, to know if the holiday is today or tomorrow so we did bnoth).
I guess I could, but a script would be cheating. :)
@geoffc but it's not your fault that SE didn't think of that
Hehe.
This is my third year trying for the 100 days. I am only 7 days away on Space.
(Should note, it was calculated into a predicatable calendar in the early AD's like 100AD or so, and we use that instead now, but for tradition, still do the two day holidays outside of Israel).
so when is the next such holiday?
