Astro gets to go into public beta!

2 hours later…
02:19
@Undo woohoo
oh, niceties :)

3 hours later…
05:41
@TildalWave, @PearsonArtPhoto Hmm ... how is spaceweather.com able to get Solar data when the SOHO web-site is showing a shut-down notice? Are NASA feed/API access open with only HTTP shut-down?
p.s. Looks like my staying away for a couple of nights boosted visitor strength (+: Up to 247 now
06:24
@Everyone it's a joint ESA/NASA project, and it's also tasked with ISON comet observations as it passes the Sun which should be in a month and a half stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/comet_ison
@Everyone that would be it :P
07:00
@Undo yay!

2 hours later…
09:27
@Undo awesomeness! And you'll be an awesome diamond there

1 hour later…

We really ought to have a last-post review too ((+:
I couldn't resist:
How is galaxy formed? They need to do way instain Big Bang - who kill thier galaxeis. because theese galaxy cannot fright back. :-) — Rory Alsop 2 mins ago
@RoryAlsop Now I not know if test my reasoning or your reasoning with experiment?
:-)
So - Higgs and Englert, eh!
Really cool to see our banner each time I visit Phy.SE too! Our trolling rocks! All your base are belong to us!!
@RoryAlsop and Brout too
Oh, just saw that they don't award Nobel prize posthumous? Is that true?
apparently it is
@RoryAlsop You studied at Uni. of Edinburgh?

Any of you math/calculus wizards awake?
Erm. I'm just wondering what is the maximum volume a specified area may enclose
Did Undo/Tildal commit to the ARSE then?
@Everyone If I understand correctly, you have a certain amount of (paper?), and you want to make a shape out of it?
That covers the maximum volume, of course.
That encloses the maximum volume, yep
My net connection is spotty lately; the link light goes out at random, then comes back in a while ... or forces me to reconnect. It's so annoying - my mails and all are open. Is it safe? )+:
13:03
I'm pretty sure it's a sphere, but I'm not quite sure how to prove that...
Sounds right to me.
You're better off asking at math.stackexchange.com
There are some insanely smart people at Math.
3
smarter than you guys/gals?
Smarter than me, yes.
13:09
Depends on the area. But certainly better at abstract mathematics.
hm...
13:22
bbl. time to get veggies for the week
@PearsonArtPhoto: Did you get your HiJuno coordinates sorted out?
Is there a blog for space.SE
Nope
Why not ?
@Everyone As much as I can. I'll give it a shot.
@Hash Ask on Meta if you want one. No one's asked, and without asking, there's no blog.
14:03
@Hash SE policy - only sites that graduate get blogs.
@Tildal - yes
@Donald.McLean That's not true. For example, Islam has a blog. Beta sites don't often request blogs because they often lack the userbase for it.
Sci Fi had a blog before it was public as well.
@called2voyage Ahh. I was told it was a beta thing - the folks at Movies and TV wanted a blog.
@Donald.McLean Interesting, if Movies and TV is still interested you can let them know they should try requesting.
14:06
or at least that's my recollection, which is no longer as good as it used to be.
@Pearson i posted that question in meta
@Donald sorry i never saw your message i noticed it now only (after posting it)

Q: Do we need a blog?

HashIs it possible to create a blog for space.SE. When i discussed this with our chat room I came to know that we don't have a blog. I thinks it's the right time for us to create a blog since we need more users and we have lots of good question and nice answers. Do we really need a blog for space.SE...

@Hash See my comments on Donald's message. It is not against policy.
14:38
@Hash: Tildal & I talked about a blog a while back. It'll have to wait until SEx.SEX is more mature
@PearsonArtPhoto: Cool! Did you mail for the QSL?
@Everyone Can't until Wednesday, when I've tried to make the contact.
15:07
@PearsonArtPhoto: Their page doesn't mention anything about post-participation mail (+: albeit it would be the right thing to do. She passes almost overhead ... but we're overcast, and forecast is for overcast too )+:
Overcast won't matter for RF.
As far as seeing it, well, it would, if you are in the eclipse line and close to closest approach.
Not for RF (+: my neighbor has a telescope
neighbOur
Where do you live?
Nagpur, Central India ML91 on the grid-square
bbiab. suppertime
India would be a prime spot to see it.
Good luck!
15:26
@Pearson we don't have a tag blog

I tried to think of something witty to say, but fell short...
15:41
sigh, the people from the arcade chat room have invaded The DMZ because people flagged poor Simon...
@Pearson thanks

Lots of edits made, to push us in the right direction
Hehe the main inspiration for me to write that question is @RhyW
Me?
I saw a link in your profile
15:47
Ahh! Funny that I should be the one to make the edits here then :P
:P
As a side note, we had/have a trello board with some classifications, a review period for each post to go through before it can be posted. These are:

Ideas: Used for ideas :P
Writing: When someone is writing one of these posts
Review: When a post is ready to be reviewed
Ready: When something is ready to be posted, passed review ect
Posted: When a topic has been posted (or we remove it)
An idea that may be worth implementing here if the blog takes off
@RhyW nice edit exactly what i studied while writing that question
Just a hint, there is an S in there too, (otherwise it doesn't ping me)
Ahhh
15:51
just incase you want to get hold of me in the future!
@RhysW i like the note especially :P
haha, i think im the only WP regular here, but just incase ;)
WP?
It won't be visible if this overcast persists
@Rhys: Just curious if this pings you.
I've noticed @Pearson pings me, and I'm just trying to figure out the pattern.
@PearsonArtPhoto: It needs a minimum 3 letters, IIRC ... unless there is a conflict
@Pea Did this ping?
16:01
@Pea worked. Interesting.
@Pea It needs three chars minimum to ping, plus whatever is needed to clarify exactly who you're pinging.
and you can't ping yourself of course, so if there was someone called JohnC in here, I could ping him with @John and it would work
but nobody else could
@PearsonArtPhoto yup!
16:21
The system won't let you ping yourself anyway; the intellisense gives a not-so-subtle hint by it's failure to let you @<your-own-nick>
17:17
@PearsonArtPhoto @PearsonArtPhoto: TY. IT is indeed a sphere sg.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080516160719AADSvZ3
17:29
Ya...ya... Yahoo Answers! Run!
@Undo: That wake you up? (+:
Wonder whether Uppsalite would make a good lubricant for space applications ... ? Now how do I work this into a question ... ?
Lol
@Undo: Why Lol? Won't Uppsalite do?
18:05
@Everyone About Yahoo Answers, the lol was about. The Uppsalite stuff, nothing know I about.
18:15
@Undo: Ah. No worries. Uppsalite is the new blue-eyed boy; super-dessicant.

Q: Should [aircraft] be a synonym of [aerobot]?

called2voyageI don't have enough rep in aerobot to propose this synonym officially, so I'm going to ask this question here. Isn't aircraft, as it is currently used, a synonym of aerobot? Here is the single question where aircraft was used: How effective ARES aircraft would be?

Uh .. an aircraft may/may not be manned. An aerobot, by definition, is unmanned & meant for ET ops; methinks the OP should make the call in the context of the question/answer
@Everyone +1, i was just about to say that.
Ty (+: /me bows
Hm. Is Juno slowing down headed into the Grav ass?

19:09
@Everyone See my comment on your answer.
@Everyone That abbreviation of gravity assist is mildly amusing to native English speakers.
Understood. It seemed to fit though ... as Earth's gravity is giving Juno a 'kick in the pants'.
Apropos the comment - I concur (+: "My preference would be to keep the two separate" Last para in me answer
@Everyone I think I agree with you, but I also believe that the question should still be retagged to aerbot.
Of course!

Q: Are questions about remote sensing payloads on topic?

Adam WuerlThere is a question about telescopes that's currently on hold, with a ton of recommendations that it be moved to various other sites like photography, astronomy, or physics. Given how broad and not specific this particular question is I would totally agree with putting it on hold. However, do w...

And Astro is out of private beta.

Pets went into private beta, would anyone like an invite?

1 hour later…
23:41
I think Amateur Radio and Gamification will both hit private beta soon.
