Rotating tethers scale so badly with velocity requirements. The taper ratio is already a solid $e^{v^2}$, and then there's another scaling factor of $v^2$ for tether mass from supporting the weight of the payload. Tsiolkovsky's got nothing on this $e^{v^2} v^2$ asymptotic!

Q: Why are there so few badge tagged tag-badge questions on meta?
