@geoffc Even if SpaceX gets a Starship to Mars before the rover, it's hardly superseded. The Starship would be conducting a different mission, and it would be a long time before human presence would be built up enough to cover the same range as a rover.

Also, Mars 2020 will land on Mars in 2021.
The SpaceX mission will launch in 2022 at the earliest, and land in 2023.
