yeah, good question. i don't know.
mexican beaurocracy - don't mess with it, man.
Their mobos might not be made in Mexico, but something else might be.
bureaucracy? anyhow, that word
@briligg Does this only count for new devices, or can someone send you a box full of stuff with no duty?
I think it's what it says on the box. If it's "made in US" then it should be fine, I highly doubt they check where resistors were made
hehehe... like all good mexicans do? :)
22:01
Just find a cardboard box made in the US and slap a sticker on that, then put the stuff you want inside. :)
If you can find someone trustworthy enough to ship the parts to in the US, then have them ship that to you...
they probably just scan the EAN code
@duzzy no, you have to unpack it, and generally try to make it look like you forgot it at your sisters, or whatever. and hope they aren't in a bad mood.
Hmm... it's almost as though they've dealt with this very thing before... they seem to know all the tricks.
Why couldn't you simply order it to Canada and bring it with you next time you go there? Do they check luggage that you check in at the airport?
22:03
no, some computer parts aren't hard to find here and the prices have come down to mostly reasonable if you know where to look.
just that things that are more specialized can be quite overpriced or hard to find.
@TildalWave sometimes. and i won't be in canada for a year or more.
@briligg Hehe, that gives you time to save up :P
hmm yeah that's a problem
i'll see what on the list i can get here, and maybe i can shorten the list.
How far into mexico do you live? You could drive them across in your trunk...
@DavidFreitag So she can buy one for double the price a year later instead? That's exactly why I rarely upgrade. Always waiting because there's better, faster items just around the corner LOL
22:06
like, a day from the border. michoacan.
@briligg So you could make a weekend out of it :D
Maybe you could just go on a "fishing trip"
heh... no...
with a speedboat :)
I just hope that they haven't employed a set of motherboard-sniffing dogs at the border.
22:07
I think we're solving this for you, briligg.
crossing in and out of mexico by car = no fun at all.
hey how about have it delivered by one of those Amazon drones? :D
@TildalWave If I get off this never endinig call at work, want to take the kids skiing/tubing on our ski boat.
If I lived in texas I'd meet you in the atlantic on a boat with your parts.
hahaha! got a cigaretty boat? we'll need it...
22:08
But alas, I live much further from the mexico border.
@geoffc erm, unless you'll cross the US/MX border doing that,... :))
I'm in a landlocked state. I'm no help in this aquatic smuggling adventure. :(
I stubbed my toe badly on a rock, swimming at a friends beach. I was hunting for golf balls. I like looking on the bottom and collecting golf balls people hit in. So I cannot go skiing right now.
maybe i can ask one of those nice people who fly cessnas up the coast who somehow never have any lights on and fly awfully, awfully low...
What could possibly go wrong?
22:09
@geoffc skiing on lake of bays is especially nice. waves not too big, nice long lake. :)
@geoffc Golf balls are dangerous.
@briligg So low that their wheels touch the ground. Just for a second.
@geoffc just place a basket at the club with "free golf ball cleaning" sign on it next time, it's a lot easier :D
@TildalWave Hahaha, that's devious. I like it.
also, ouch! I know that hurts
22:11
@DavidFreitag i'll look for local and get the rest from newegg. now that i know what to get, and what to look for if i can't get the same. I'll check the list with you once i've figured it out :)
@briligg Okay, if you find alternatives and wonder if it is all compatible, I should be able to tell you quickly whether they are or not.
thanks for the help! to all!
in The DMZ, 2 hours ago, by David Freitag
I really enjoy building computers for people. If you give me a price range I'll meet it.
hehehe @DavidFreitag man, one room at a time!
22:46
@TildalWave Hehehe, saw that did ya?
23:30
@briligg We are at the Baysville end, in a series of 3 smaller bays, so we have a 5K long ski run, (round trip) that does not get the big lake exposure.
@TildalWave I enjoy the thrill of the hunt. The canny golf ball trying to outwit the swim goggle equipped hunter. You know, that sort of thing.
