It is a shared laundry facility where money is needed to use the washers and dryers.
Which one is correct and why? How do you call this rule in English grammar?
NVM, I posted the question on ELL but feel free to answer it, thanks.

@JohanLarsson Just sayin' what?
That I did not star the bash js post
felt it was important to make it clear
@JohanLarsson Oh, I didn't think you did. And it wasn't a "bash js" post. It was just a statement of fact. JavaScript is far from perfect. But it's still awesome.
In the spirit of open-minded inquiry, I surely have to admit that.
And nothing is perfect. N-o-t-h-i-n-g.
Far from it.
I go for bikerides with the dogs a couple of times a week. Have pulling gear on them.
The pedals are only footrests.
A friend came along and he could not keep up.

12:38
@JohanLarsson That only suggests that your friend is very slow.
only one possibility?
No, probably others. I don't think you'd beat me, though.
no pretty sure I wouldnt
How far do you go when you go?
We go pretty short 10-20 km
Don't want to go too far due to wear on paws.
@JohanLarsson I do at least 25 km every day.
dirt roads can be pretty abrasive
12:50
I ride on pavement.
And my bike is a road bike, not a mountain bike.
So we are talking apples and oranges.
I avoid asphalt when riding with the dogs

@JohanLarsson I avoid dogs when riding on asphalt.

Just waiting till it warms up to go out today. I think I'll probably do around 45-50km, unless my knees start to complain.
Lately my left knee (the "good" one) has started to get cranky pains under the kneecap. I really don't want to push it and wind up unable to bike for a few weeks. That would be a disaster.
Part of my amelioration regimen has been to use lower gears and higher revs.
But my new bike makes riding so easy that it's tempting to take hills in much higher gear ratios than I used to on my old bike.
I used "amelioration" above, but didn't think it through. I should have used "mitigation" instead.
cadence = pace of revolutions

HI All
@JohanLarsson
I'm craving for choosing a right sentence. would be able to support me?
Thought it's not actually a sentence
13:46
I'm esl so you should not trust me :)
As you say -_-
'I miss the hang arounds' is this a proper sentence ?
i want to say this to my old friend...
@JudeNiroshan It's possible to say that, but probably not without sounding foreign. More idiomatic would be "I miss how we used to hang around" or "I miss our hanging around."
@Robusto 'I miss the smiles and the laughs, I miss how we used to hang around, but most of all I Miss my friend!!' ... is this ok ?
Sure.
Well, off to ride the bike. Laters.
@Robusto my one and only best friend (guy) moved to a different location.(far from my place, but all these time his house was so close to ours'). I feel so much loneliness now. so, i thought of this sentence to him
we were friends more than 10 years
@Robusto so, how can i improve this sentence in a way that he can feel it into him ?

@JudeNiroshan Simpler is often better: "I miss you so much."
Or, why do you have to say something? eyes speak louder than words.
16:18
Huge nice here, been struggling with a mess for a couple of days.
Have a solution now that will be awesome.

Hi guys
user116848
Hi Johan!
16:37
hi
I went to a Fußballspiel today!
I learned a lot
what is the plural of the surname "Davies"
such as, the yellow guys suck.
as in .. please say hello to all the Davieses
which seems wrong
@Lembik I would say please say hello to the Davies
16:38
@GeorgePompidou would you do that for any surname ending with an s?
I cannot commit to that, but I'd say tentatively yes.
Say Mr and Mrs Moss and their children. Please say hello to the Moss
I wouldn't for Ross. I'd say Rosses.
it looks completely wrong to me
user116848
16:38
@Lembik Yes, Davies sounds okay to me too.
@Arrowfar How would you pronounce it?
it should be pronounced "Davieses"
user116848
(I am not a native speaker of English though)
I feel there must be a question about this already but I can't find it
it isn't pronounced Davieses
it is pronounced Davies.
user116848
I'd pronounce it as the usual Davies, not Davieses.
16:41
you should not pronounce imaginary letters.
@Arrowfar then it doesn't make sense.. sorry
that's just silly.
@GeorgePompidou I think maybe you aren't familiar with the surname
let's choose another one that ends with s :)
Mr and Mrs James
and their children
you asked me how I would say "please say hello to the Davies"
that is how I would say it
please say hello to all the Jameses?
16:42
and there are no invisible letters.
James is up in the air. I'd say the Jameses or the James.
@GeorgePompidou I think you are pronouncing it Dave-eeze, right?
yes, something like that.
when it should be pronounced in my context as Dave-is as in "Dave is a nice person"
as far as I know, there is no surname pronounced "dave is"
there's Davis
This is the correct pronunciation for the Welsh surname Davies
16:43
but that's a different name.
Davis is the spelling if you are born in England
Davies is the spelling if you are born in Wales
Davis is pronounced differently than Dave is.
@GeorgePompidou oops.. my s was wrong.. I was focussing on the i :)
in any case.. please say hello to all the Davises?
oh. so you're saying "Davies" is pronounced like "Davis"?
user116848
@Lembik I found these links:
16:44
@GeorgePompidou exactly
where I am from, that's incorrect.
@GeorgePompidou not Wales I assume :)
there is a difference. but if you are in Wales, by all means, speak like they do.
16:45
I'm from Chicago.
@Arrowfar thanks.. I will go for Davieses
user116848
Sure, welcome!
@GeorgePompidou that's abroad :)
everywhere is abroad from somewhere.
@GeorgePompidou this is all true
16:46
from where I currently am, every country except Germany is abroad.
@GeorgePompidou actually.. it's not that you have to be in Wales to pronounce Davies as Davis. It's just that it is the correct pronunciation of the name for people who came from Wales
They should pronounce it correctly even when they go to London :)
@Lembik correct or incorrect, where I am from, Davies is pronounced Davies, not Davis.
I don't know the percentage of English Davieses versus originally Welsh Davieses
@GeorgePompidou sure
@GeorgePompidou I imagine you pronounce Britain as England too :)
also incorrect, I pronounce Britain as Britain.
interesting
I never hear americans say britain
they refer to the prime minister of England regularly
16:49
how many Americans do you hear per hour?
well. I live in the States :)
so a lot then
then you must know a lot of oblivious people.
I think this includes the president
you know.. that obama guy
okay well I am checking out of this chat so that I can do my laundry before dinner time.
also.. try typing "prime minister of" into google.com
the top suggestion is England
bye

Today is retro 50's day on ELU.
What's a word for when a woman turns down a man (cuz really what's the use of the word for the other way)
um, 4 hot guyz lyke me iz v. usefull
i turn down chikz all da tiem dey like all over me n shit
man dem grills be fiendin 4 tha d
20:51
@GeorgePompidou yeah but u wouldn't need to bother with that word at all because it's of no concern to you. because it's the 1950's man.
um okay bro w/e i dunno wat ur on abut
cranks out Prolog homework due tomorrow
so I'm in this class taught in English and one guy on my team is the only other American in the class. I'm so glad I get to submit our homeworks and proofread what he writes, because he writes things like this: “second cousin’s are cousin’s who’s grandparent’s are sibling’s as opposed to there parent’s being sibling’s.” imagine if the professor saw that and realized that a native English speaker is worse at English than all of the other students in the class…
