How can I interpret this sentence?

"The book offers a rich read, varied in both the lives and texts of the women por-
trayed, and the perspectives and styles of the sixteen essayists."

Is the below interpretation is correct?
[ the lives and texts of the women portrayed ], and [ the perspectives and styles of the sixteen essayists. ]

The "both" refers to the two groupings, not the individual members of either set.

Although I feel that sentence is somewhat poorly rendered.

@Robusto interesting looking at the regional map of the polls too. Basically the yes vote is focussed in Glasgow/Edinburgh. The rest of Scotland is like 60-70% no.

they ought to draw an oval around Glasgow/Edinburgh and annex the rest to England

also, those "no" areas north of Glasgow/Edinburgh are nearer the oil so the oil shouldn't be owned by independence-supporting Scots ;-)

In Danish we have something along the lines of "Hormonal Disturbing Drugs", but that doesn't sound quite right in English.

"Hormonforstyrrende" which is a contraction of "Hormonal" and "disturbing".

So you'd use it like "Hormonforstyrrende medicin" = "Hormonal disturbing drugs/medicine".

If "this email" refers to the very email the sentence is part of, then the present tense is clearly preferrable. Just like you'd use "I'm writing you this to..." and not "I was writing you this to...". It is irrelevant that at the time the reader is reading the email, you are no longer writing it.
