Fricative voicing wasn’t phonemic in Old English, and ‹v› wasn’t a letter: OE giefan, giefen > MidE ȝevan, ȝeoven > ModE give but gift. Raþþer.
A rashsher decision theirs than mine.
Now we just need to replace our lodgers with lojjers.
And our badgers with bajjers.

Ouch.

I so hate it. I have just restarted Windows, and my headphones were working. Now they again have stopped working, and the laptop is using its loudspeaker. Is there any way on Earth to diagnose the cause of this in Window 10? Probably not.

2:45 AM
I found that there's a version of Windows called "Creators Update" that may let you switch to headphones manually. cnet.com/tech/computing/…
I'll try getting it.
Old Russian Meme, titled Nikakogo Prazdnika, "No celebration at all", with English subtitles.
A first-year schoolgirl is charmingly unhappy with a botched enrollment celebration ))))
The little girl has grown up, but the meme lives on. The Internet remembers.

Updating Windows. If I never come back to chat, you know I've died attempting to fix my headphone port.

I updated it, but no new settings appeared.

You know, I'm starting to feel that it would have been cheaper just to shut the whole travel in the whole world completely in the spring of 2020, and wait until the virus dies down.
It would have been a terrible shock to the economy, but in the long run, a cheaper shock.

Soviet Mars rover, 1971
Sadly, it crashed on landing, but it's still there on Mars.
In the Krasnodar Region, the local elections were run with blatand violations of the rules. A local activist sent a complaint to a cassation court on the actions of the Krasnodar court that had ruled the election to have been properly run.
She bought the following envelope to send her complaint:
The picture is called "The Judgement of Cambyses"
The Judgement of Cambyses is an oil on wood diptych by Dutch artist Gerard David, depicting the arrest and flaying of the corrupt Persian judge Sisamnes on the order of Cambyses, based on Herodotus' Histories. The diptych was commissioned in 1487/1488 by the municipal authorities of Bruges which requested a series of panels for the deputy burgomaster's room in the town hall. The diptych was painted on oak panels and was first mentioned in the Bruges' archives as The Last Judgement. It was used by the town burghers to encourage honesty among the magistrates and as a symbolic public apology for the...
The activist is now under investigation under "possible contempt of court" due to the use of this envelope.
But she did troll the Putinist bastards well. I admire her.

@CowperKettle Windows 10 handles sound sources very poorly.
Especially sound volume. You adjust it in one app, and the next time that app is used it's never at the same level.

4:52 PM
@Robusto It's amazing that there is no app to allow you to manually switch sound outputs.
> The Japanese Spider Crab
The Japanese spider crab (Macrocheira kaempferi) is a species of marine crab that lives in the waters around Japan. It has the largest leg span of any arthropod. They go through three main larval stages along with a prezoeal stage in order to grow to their great size. The genus Macrocheira contains multiple species. Two fossil species of this genus have been found, Macrocheira ginzanensis and Macrocheira yabei, both from the Miocene of Japan. The diverse taxonomic history is an important part of what these creatures are and how they evolved to be what they are today. They are sought by Crab fisheries...
There are programs that will calculate the orbits of thousand stars, but no program for allowing you to use the headphone port.

@CowperKettle The problem is, you can't conform a number of apps to that. Something will always be WAY TOO LOUD or way too soft.

I don't care about something being too loud or too soft. I only want to manually switch off the internal speaker of the laptop, and leave only the headphone jack working.
How do I turn off the internal speaker in Windows 10? - Microsoft Community - hundreds of people have this issue, maybe thousands of people, and Microsoft has done nothing, just nothing.
It's amazing.
It must be the simplest issue to solve, just upload a 100 kb program that will have a couple of switches. That's all. Years have passed, and people keep asking the same question online.
Gosh, it dates back to 2016. Maybe I need to upgrade to Windows 11 to be able to use my headphone jack.
Or maybe the newest quantum computers will enable this feature.
I have a 100 kb app that will keep any window on top always. It's that simple. Why no simple app with a switch: internal speaker / headphone jack? Is there some dark magic involved? O_o
