@RegDwigнt Can I just bang my head against the wall?

2 hours later…
2:20 AM
@MetaEd Yes
But not too hard. You don't want to damage the wall
@RegDwigнt Like I tell JLo, it's not your fault. It's bridge. That game is horrible.

@Mitch That's fair

I think lurking is perfectly acceptable as long as no one gets hurt.
If 'to lurk' is what I think it is.
It's not a... uh... medical procedure, is it?
medical... thing. occurrence? some biology thing happens?
People get really upset if you call it the wrong thing.
or anything at all
and they also get upset if you don't notice
I'm in a constant state of anxiety wondering what to say and also whether to say it.
I could think it real loud
I mean really loud
but no facial expressions
that's cheating
There's no cheating allowed in telepathy
I know what you're thinking...
literally

Which is better: "Anti-PF1 monoclonal antibody" or "Monoclonal anti-PF1 antibody"?

@CowperKettle 1) monoclonal antibody is the thing that is being qualified, so the first one.
2) you probably shouldn't trust us here, ask actual people who know, or google
Search google books for 'monoclonal * antibody, monoclonal antibody' to see how often the term is split

Q: Non-idiomatic alternative to the idiom, "rack one's brain"

AhmedIs there any non-idiomatic word in place of the idiom "rack one's brain," which means to strain in mental effort, esp to remember something or to find the solution to a problem (from Collins). For instance, a teacher had put a chalk box yesterday in the principal office, but today he is trying h...

Q: Word that describes shortening of a single “string”

Laken H.In programming, the word “concatenation” is often used for combining multiple individual strings into one. Is there a reverse of this? For dropping a piece of a string, or number? Q: I need a word that is for when something implies another thing will happen

Sam JaehnigBasically, I have a sentence that says something that happened and the following sentence explains what happens in response. The response is inevitable so the occurrence implies the response. I need a more powerful word than "therefore" or "thus."

I need a word for a word that is a word but a word.
Also, I love the word, so can you give me five other words that mean the same thing, because I don't want to be using the word that I love.
That's your Reader's Digest of the last 24 hours.
We could make a blog out of this. Call it "A day in life of a pine".
It would be rather repetitive after a week or so, but then again that's what all blogs are.

Q: Using different works instead of "Pursue"

M. AzarnoushHow can I say "... I wanted to pursue the graduate school as I enjoyed ...." in different way? I have already used "pursue" in my essay several times. That's why I want to use different different word (or maybe sentence)

8:27 PM
Hello @MattE.Эллен. =)

@RegDwigнt You need more than a word. With just one additional letter you could have an entire world.

I just noticed you were posting shit. So I gave you an upvote to make it stop.
This is not how we do business on this site. The "nuke from orbit" button is on the right now. New layout.
@Robusto I can't use that letter, I already put it in the word "slacker".
Also, "next" doesn't even mean "next". It means "previous". Only "previous" means "next". Nothing else does. We have a question on that if you don't believe me. Five, actually.

Q: Word for the direction of written words

bdb484English moves left to right. Hebrew moves right to left. Both then move top to bottom. Mongolian moves top to bottom, and some Philippine languages move from bottom to top. Is there a word that names the idea of these conventions?

10:21 PM
Guten evening. I would like a produce to buy.
Also, I wonder if I met many men today, or few. Please choose the correct answer.

@RegDwigнt Btw, didn't want you to think I was being sniffy with your edits. Reason I changed be back to BE, is that it's a convention in certain types of syntax and EFL writing to use capitals to refer to the "name" of the verb as opposed to a particular inflection of it. So in relation to "I have be stopped" we can say "You shouldn't use be there", but in relation to "I have 25" we can say "You need to use BE there". ...

Sometimes it's almost like Graham Chapman never died, but instead went on hiatus, created the Internet and a billion accounts, and is now posting stuff 24/7.
@Araucaria I didn't even notice you changed anything back. I don't really care actually. I say my bit and do my thing and then move on to the next.
Then other people take over from there.

@RegDwigнt I doubt you would, but anyhow ...

Well next time you see a comment of mine anywhere and then someone commenting on that comment, just take a second to see if I ever came back to reply. (Hint: no I didn't.)
So me actually seeing your comment there, that's like a truly exceptional thing to happen.

@RegDwigнt Ah, but I'm one of those people who inadvertantly makes a tit of themselves on a regular basis without meaning to, and so I tend to double make sure I haven't offendded.

10:29 PM
See I address that issue by simply always being offensive in the first place. Saves time.

I see that you're a specialist in the saves time procedures.

Seriously though, I just can't do a thing for more than two seconds. So I try to say everything I have to say right away, so I'd never have to check back on the same thing twice.
You should see me practicing the violin. It mostly consists of practicing piano, playing chess, and watching YouTube. And by watching YouTube I mean building with LEGO. And by building with LEGO I mean reading a book. And by reading a book I mean reading a different book.
There's so much stuff to see and do and you can only spend any given second once. Sucks.
I don't want to live forever, but I'd love to be able to live for as long as I'm not done yet.

I sypathise completely. This on SE is me doing my PhD. I came to Newcastle two weeks ago specifically so I could do more linguistis stuff. I've been to four lectures so far, none of them about language in any way. Have visited four art galleries and been to Edinburgh twice. I never understand people who say that they wouldn't want to live to 100, I'd be busy enough if I lived to 500 reckon. It takes a lot to get to done yet if you aren't bedridden or in pain, I reckon.

10:45 PM
@RegDwigнt And by reading a different book you mean practising on the violin.
@Araucaria I agree.

@Cerberus I learned just now (wonders of Google) that you are a three-headed dog. I thought you were a ferret in slow motion ...

@Araucaria How dare you!!
You...you...minx!

Actually, without thinking too closely, I thought cerberus was rleated to brains in some way (cerebral etc)

I doubt whether that word bears any relation to me!
I mean "spotted, dappled, variegated".
Some would say "mottled" or "motley", but I reject that characterisation.

Btw, just for the record I'm a big hairy bloke with an unruly beard. (People get the wrong idea because I've got an -a at the end of my stolen moniker )

11:01 PM
@Cerberus how did you know. Get out of my head. And my flat.
@Araucaria OMFG you in Newcastle. I have people there.

@Cerberus Do you reject that because of your youthful complexion?
@RegDwigнt What, like hit men?

That's a trick question. Everyone in Newcastle is a hit man.

@RegDwigнt Ha ha!

A: Scottish idiom meaning to enter a deal which turns out differently than agreed

TattieI think it's simply a reference to "been there, done that, bought the T-shirt". Definitely not Scots slang.

See you!!

@Araucaria Ah, I see.

@Araucaria everyone in Newcastle is a big hairy bloke with an unruly beard. Good choice of camo.

A male minx, then.
@RegDwigнt You're circular.

@RegDwigнt An angular globe, then.

That one I have memorised the mostest of all.

And, has it been generic?
You ask for Chopin you get Chopin. You ask for 2010 you get 2010.
You ask nothing you get nothing.
Anyway, I think I need to get packing for Frankfurt.

@RegDwigнt It's funny reading the dialogue from the inception of our room.
Kosmo and I actually had a decent conversation about English.
Boggles the mind.
Bon voyage.
