@Tonepoet I know lyrics of a song should not be taken as a model for correct English but this is quite interesting "We push and pull like a magnet do". Here at 0:57 seconds:
I guess "do" rhymes there better than "does".

@englishstudent Given that the prior line ended with you, that does seem to be the case. Similar abuses of the word do come to mind. A song by Roger Miller called England Swings has such a line in the opening of its chorus "England swings like a pendulum do: bobbies on bicycles two by two". Alluding to other songs, and emulating nonstandard accents might also be reasons for abusing the word do in a song.

@Tonepoet Isn't it a relatively common AAVE idiom?

@terdon I'd say southern U.S. generally, which is an accent that heavily influenced A.A.V.E., due to the southerners being slaveholders.

OK. I've associated it with AAVE but only because that's where I've most often heard it.

Well, perhaps not so generally.

Q: Sentences structures, grammar

BetoI'm confused about the examples below: a) State of Florida vs Florida State b) Department of transportation vs transportation department c) ego state vs state of ego What are correct? Does each line have the same meaning whether I use either the first or second example? Thank you in advance.

This has to be a duplicate but I am having trouble finding it.

What user? ;)

so, guys, this is the abstract
it's very short
not even half a page
I would appreciate your feedback
I would like to know if you get the idea of the project just by reading the abstract
I think that's quite important

'Tis eloquently put for the most part, but there are some points to consider. Like why is there a less/few distinction if it is so pointless, and what use actioning might serve that act and acting doesn't and also a chief objection that the calling the original use of words elitist must be an ironic overstatement given that the complaints being made are the antithesis of the claim. As if that's not enough, I also have the ultimate argument up my sleeve to prove it:

No U! pwnd. lol <_<

Checkmate.
