@Cerberus: I've been looking for a source that describes the pronunciation of the goddess "Epona" in English. Would you happen to know? Lewis and Short give the Latin pronunciation as "Ĕpŏna," which to me suggests /ˈɛpənə/, but there are words for which irregular English pronunciations or stress positions are established (such as myiasis, for which the N.E.D. in 1908 apparently had /maɪɪˈeɪsɪs/ even though the "a" in the suffix was apparently short in Classical languages).

"Replenish multiple colors as necesseary, thanks to pen's refillable multi-purpose chamber"

Should it be " , " or " - " before thanks?

7:43 AM
@Boris_yo The sentence has some grammar and spelling errors. Does it mean "The user is able to replenish multiple colors as necessary?" If so, I would replace the first part with something like "You can replenish multiple colors as necessary, thanks to..." A comma is OK here. For the second part, you need an article before the word "pen." I think "thanks to the pen's refillable multi-purpose chamber" would work.

@Boris_yo Technically, a hyphen is never correct there.

I have three short questions:
Is this correct? "we told that exactly in a parallel time"

Which one?
- a upvote
- an upvote

Which one?
- you deserve it
- you are deserve it

user208178
1:49 PM
@stack "we said that at the same time". I don't know what "parallel time" means here.

user208178
@stack an upvote

user208178
@stack you deserve it

Thank you very much
@VitaminC "parallel time" means "the same time" here

user208178
yeah that would look awkward.

@Cerberus Well, you've got three heads, it should be no problem for you. And if anyone disagrees, you can just eat them.

1:53 PM
@VitaminC ah

Is everybody having issues with avatars, or just me?

I wonder what "Parallel Universe" means? Or "Parallel lines"? "Unparalleled"? I can't think of a same time example.

user208178
@KitZ.Fox heh you mean two butterflies here?

@nocomprende synchronously?

Parallel Butterflies?
Or swimourously.

1:56 PM
@VitaminC No, I mean that some avatars are broken images, some are not.

user208178
ah. no I see them fine.

Some are more equal than others.

user208178
sometimes I see them as broken images. But that feels like the page is not loading correctly.

2:19 PM
@KitZ.Fox bad internet connection.

Mornin.

3:19 PM
The search engines are obviously in collusion with the narcissism-industrial complex which controls the capitalization stockpiles and distribution networks. First they came for the u's in colour, next the 'gh' in 'nite'. Take away their 'I' and it'll be all 'me,me,me'. John Lennon had it right, only sky above us. — Mitch 10 mins ago

but there's something above the sky

blood boils
set to simmer, whisk in olive oil till it thickens

3:41 PM
@stack You can't use parallel that way in English.
@Mitch You can't take the sky from me.

4:28 PM
@MattE.Эллен What?

@MετάEd The moon

@MattE.Эллен The moon is above the sky?

@MετάEd I've never seen a bird on the moon

@MattE.Эллен Of course not. Birds fly through the air underneath the sky.

@MετάEd No no, the air is in the sky

4:39 PM
@MattE.Эллен Cats, of course, live on the moon. That's another reason why you never see a bird there.

@MετάEd very good at their job

@MattE.Эллен The sky is a great dome or roof. It makes no sense for birds to fly in it. The could fly up to it -- but it might be really hot and then the wax would all melt and they would plummet to the sea.

@MετάEd the sky is all around us, like an intangible marshmallow.

@MattE.Эллен Heretic! Shun the unbeliever!

@MετάEd Shun me all you like. I'm fine up here on cloud nine

4:53 PM
@tchrist You can't convert liter-bar to kip-gill. It's not like parsecs and microfortnights.
@MattE.Эллен Watch for dangerous bananas.

5:27 PM
@MετάEd It's okay, he is the banana king

@sumelic @TIPS Thanks!
If I say brass metal pen, does it make sense?
I mean is brass metal already?
"You would love this brass metal pen!" or "You would love this brass pen!"?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 takes Matt's kidney

@MετάEd it's fine, he has two

@Boris_yo Either one makes sense. You are right that brass is already known to be metal, so you can certainly leave it out.

5:45 PM
@MετάEd Give it back.

@KitZ.Fox Dammit. Gives it back and takes other kidney.
I knew there was something wrong with that kidney.

@MετάEd I was using that!

@MattE.Эллен Sorry, Charlie :-)

Eating more than 6 bananas at once can kill you?

@MattE.Эллен Huh

5:50 PM
It's the literal title of an article on the BBC
> Adults should consume about 3,500mg of potassium per day, according to the UK's National Health Service. The average banana, weighing 125g, contains 450mg of potassium, meaning a healthy person can consume at least seven-and-half bananas before reaching the recommended level.

@MattE.Эллен @KitZ.Fox It's tuesday

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 you're Tuesday

No your Tuesday

@MattE.Эллен Who says overdoing the recommended level kills?

@TIPS just some idiot on a comedy show.
even the BBC isn't immune to clickbate

5:52 PM
There's always Skeptics you can ask something on.

6:16 PM
@MετάEd +1

6:36 PM
What's the opposite of "free"? "unfree"? "imfree"? "nonfree"? "infree"? (noted that I'm talking about the money)

user208178
6:59 PM
@stack "Paid"

@stack Should it inflect from "free"?
Anyway, @Vit's answer is the best you can get.

For a second, I thought you meant Vitaly.

The Perks of Being a Mod

user208178
@KitZ.Fox aww he left years ago.

Yeah.
When I became a mod, so August 2012?
I can't remember when I got my diamond.

7:07 PM
@VitaminC thank you

user208178
many cool people join and then leave.

@TIPS ok :-)

Yes. August 7, 2012. Just after EL&U's third birthday, I think.
Quite a few good candidates in that one.
Actually, I think we generally do pretty well with mod candidates.

Any user with more than 300 reputation points can create whatever tag they want. When the site started, it was just one reputation point required to create a tag. This is the first time I saw the tag and I don't understand what that tag is for. One of the question seems to be related with "political correctness" instead of "politics". Not many users of ELU care so much about tags. Whatever tag you use for your question, your question's received four close-votes and I believe it will be closed as it has nothing to do with English Language and Usage. — Rathony 3 hours ago
@Rathony's blunt. Too blunt.
I like his attitude.
But it gets too salty when he overdoes it.
At least, he is a user that cares about post quality.
Much more than what we can say about users. (Some even with more reputation)

Salty

@Mitch You like salty?
The Urmiah lake was drying.

@stack Priced.

"Loose movement"
@TIPS the umami lake is tasty

Where is it?

7:39 PM
@TIPS I've got your meaty flavor right here.

No, I want pure umami

Sprinkles TIPS with Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.

Not pure enough
Downvotes MetaEd

@MετάEd nice

@TIPS I could only afford government cheese.

@crl They count Bavarian as a language?

apparently :)

More than a couple of those charts seem wrong.

8:45 PM
@TIPS More than a couple of those charts seem wrong ... to even think up.

Well, yeah
Anything on the internet is wrong unless it has 3,000 papers written on it.
And even then sometimes internet finds a leak.

8:57 PM
hmm that didn't work
Any idea how to embed a Google drawing image here that will be recognized as an image?
The link is a PNG but ELU chat doesn't recognize it apparently.

I have no idea

@MετάEd It would be because of some characters in the image.
I didn't see your link, so I can't tell what the problem is.
:30686507 Image not found :(
Is the drawing funny though?

user208178
@MattE.Эллен Hi. Matt can I ask you something?

@VitaminC yes

user208178
can you change my ELU name? only if it's fine with you otherwise I'm fine with this one.

user208178
9:07 PM
I can change it again on Jul 22.

user208178
Change it to "Arrowfar" if you can.

user208178
Ah thanks a lot :)

user208178
you rock! :D

9:09 PM
no probs :)

hi guys
which one is correct? "in their answer" or "in their answers"

Could be either. Context?
@VitaminC Yay! The longbow is back! \o/

@MετάEd And they didn't find a label for Russia Inc.

@TIPS Nope.
Now it's on me to find a better query.

9:16 PM
@MετάEd "THE GRAPH IS INACCURATE." The man shouted

9:30 PM
There should be an app for this.

@MετάEd Still silence before Russia
Also Polish people aren't really arrogant. They're just cool.

Q: "Compared with" vs "Compared to"—which is used when?

x3jaIs only one of them correct? Are they used in different situations? Or are they interchangeable?

@VitaminC, is "compare something against" grammatically correct?

user208178
yes it is correct but in your sentence I'd use "with" or maybe "to".
