@tchrist I voted to delete that one.

That’s two.

Actually, what I did earlier was flag it. There was no delete link at that time. Now it's two.
> While Diogenes was relaxing in the sunlight in the morning, Alexander, thrilled to meet the famous philosopher, asked if there was any favour he might do for him. Diogenes replied, "Yes, stand out of my sunlight". Alexander then declared, "If I were not Alexander, then I should wish to be Diogenes", to which Diogenes replied, "If I were not Diogenes, I should also wish to be Diogenes."

Are those Martian canines?

It's Greece, so they can't be Martian. Perhaps Arean?

I was speaking in Latin, of course. But yes, havoc was the answer.

The Hounds of Hellas.

english.stackexchange.com/review/first-posts/70895 I mistakenly flagged as not an answer. If you want, please flag as spam; it will disappear sooner that way. Thanks.

@Robusto It was probably a typo for "Kris or" and had nothing to do with me at all. Still, I don't know why you gotta be like that.

Our French spammer also has one in Android Land. He’s had an SO account for 26 days, but I can find no trace of a deletion there. If so, it wasn’t recent.
I thought he would hit us together, but I looked at today’s deleted list, and he’s not on it.

He isn't now either.

This pattern of lurking on SO for nearly a month, well, I don’t understand it.
Like, he thinks we won’t notice him then?
Or that we’ll trust him?

It might be unused profiles that get preyed upon.

Oh.

Just a thought.

@KitFox Geez, jump back. I'm just kidding you.

growls, nips at @Rob's fingertips

2:01 AM
You used to be fun.

That was a long time ago.

Pre-election days, to be precise.

You know, I still haven't finished this requirement document.
Also, I have an evaluation tomorrow.
@tchrist sticks out tongue
I'm different only where I need to be.

I don't tease people I don't like. So if you want me to stop giving you shit . . .

@Kit The way they changed the flags queue so that it pushed things into the LQ review queue so that 20k users could take care of it was supposed to help relieve mods of some of the drudgery. Has it?
I think only LQ and NAA flags land there, but am unclear. It fibs.

2:04 AM
No, not really.
I don't think we have many 20K users.

Hm, who gets to "Recommend Deletion"? Is that 10kers, or anybody?
6 recommends = 3 real deletes, I believe.

And seems like everyone and their uncle has a different idea about what counts as low quality, so we end up reviewing bunches anyway.
@tchrist I don't know.

We-inclusive or we-exclusive?

We-mods.

I sometimes pass on a delete potential in the LQ queue.

2:06 AM
Mods have to resolve disputed low quality flags.

Ah.

I have twenty in the queue right now.

I wish I could tell if it landed in LQ due to a not-an-answer flag or a manual LQ flag or an auto LQ flag. I used to be able to tell the difference, and now I can't.
Maybe they thought that knowledge was prejudicing us. I don’t know.
We are starting to get a fair number of 20kers, but probably no more than half are active.

I don't even know what this flag means.

Is it a category-flag or an other/custom-flag?
Sometimes they seem to just add new auto category-flags every blue moon.

2:10 AM
It's a disputed low quality post undeleted.

That’s a flag??
Must be auto.
I didn’t realize you had to resolve all disputed flags. I thought there was supposed to be a way around that with the new system.

Thank you for this question, someone has to say it. Since the Anglo-Saxons have been historiographically proven to be the lost 13th tribe of Israel, this explains many of the obvious semitisms in Old English. — Mitch 1 min ago

Mormons!
And um, who are the Anglo-Saxons?

Exactly.
Wait... what?

Mormons is the right answer.

2:12 AM
That's what they want you to believe.

Just call them Germans.

Good night!

Hello.
Cease the pumps, I'm home.

Man, start the pumps back up, full throttle. Who knows when it will stop!
Wait... is that a question!
@medica If you translate it as Malaysian, it comes out as pretty boring. I was looking for new swear words and there are none in there.

@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 Heck yeah!
Wanna see? Sure you do.

3:12 AM
Pardon the filter, I instagrammed it.

Beautimous!
Um, is that avocado?
I've only had the slab-over-rice kind of sushi.

Avocado and cucumber.

Goodness?

I'm undecided on avocado. Love cucumber, though. Seems like a nice combination.

3:16 AM
It's super great. The sweet, tangy rice with cool cucumber and creamy avocado makes for a delicious pairing.
Damn, I sound like a TV commercial.
I love avocados.

3:38 AM
Man, I am tired.

Get some rest :-)

That would mean admitting defeat.
Also, I was gonna rip these library CDs first.
Evening got away from me.
Did you share your sushis?

Nah, they were all mine.

I didn't make too many, only two rolls. One for today, one for tomorrow.
So yummy.

3:41 AM
Did you make a bento?

Next time, a bit less rice wine vinegar in the rice though.
No :-(

That's okay! You made sushi!
Who else who comes here can say that?

I dunno. Maybe Robusto?

I was gonna say him or Cerb.

Cerberus might have tried tackling it, he seems to like culinary adventures.
Jinx.

3:43 AM
That's the truth.
Coke.

Merci.

De nada.
How's coffee?

In general?

Well, what did you mean? I haven't been drinking very good stuff lately, ran out of green beans and don't want to pay for fancy locally roasted stuff.
So free Starbucks swill it is!

That reminds me of the time that I was covering a shift at a store in the city. They put me on Frappuccino/iced tea/iced coffee station for four freakin' hours. It was awful.
That was the busiest store I've ever been at.

Did you have to wash your own blenders?

Yes.

Lame.
That would be awesome if you didn't.

And I also had to wash the milk pitchers for the person on hot bar. Because apparently I didn't have enough else to do.

Yeah.

It was wild.

Do you have a black apron yet?

Oh, yes!
I have had it since March.
I can see it from where I'm sitting.

Yeah! My manager even got my name stitched onto it.

Very kind of him.

Ah. There were four World Cups where The Three Tenors had concerts. I watched three of those.
I could not find the fourth one online in complete form, lol.

if you put a cup upsydown on the ground, does it become a world cup?

That depends on the definition of a world cup? But depending on the shape of the cup, one might get a hemisphere.

a world cup is like a tea cup or coffee cup, right?

It is possible, lol.

7:54 AM
@kitfox I haven't lobbed it back at you yet but I'm curious why this question got migrated to BH? My reading is that it is a simple miss-understanding of what "void" means in English; but in that case a dictionary should have cleared that up so I'm not even sure why they asked. Was there something more you guys saw in it?

Hi All.

Which book would be good for me to get strong in verbal abilities for GRE ?
This is a bit absurd asking about it here but last time I got somewhere around 144/170. And I am planning to give it a good try this time.

what constitute verbal abilities?

11:07 AM
Reading Comprehension, Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence.

Is this about Graduate Record Examinations? Is that what GRE is?

yes @ter

In any case, reading anything is good for you. Assuming you want to build up your vocabulary that is.

@terdon okay.

Practice on old exams.
Sample tests, with explanations, are available for many standardized tests.
Look for stuff from the Law, Medical and Dental School Admissions tests too.

11:29 AM
Yo @RegDwigнt what's going on?

I killed my Internet at home.
Lost my access credentials.

:-O

Just talked to my ISP, they'll be sending them with snail mail.
So, this is your chance to post rubbish questions without me noticing.

-_- how long does that take?
snail mail

Well, ideally it would arrive as soon as tomorrow.
But with a bit of bad luck could be as late as Monday.
Snail mail is fast, but who knows how long the ISP takes to produce the letter and get it to the post office.

11:37 AM
Be sure to write down your access credentials this time :-)

That's what I'm wondering about the most. I never lose stuff.
So I keep wondering if I did something else wrong.

Something technical?

I found every modem and router I ever owned, complete with documentation and drivers, every letter from every ISP for every place I lived in.
Just not this one letter.
Very strange.
But I gotta run now, have to meet some people.

12:22 PM
that was a quick migration
I was just drafting a pithy close reason

@MattЭллен As with most of these things, the Queen does as she will, and drinks by dipping in her cupped hands. If any one else were to do that... shocking. And if anyone even thinks of clearing their throat, a glance from her gets them 'sent away'. I mean, she does try to hold back.
@MattЭллен Would you mind my closing that question?

@Mitch beheadings do seem to be de rigueur of late
@Mitch no

@MattЭллен Despite the mess it really is the quickest.

but it's so hard to take back

@MattЭллен I'm sorta thinking WTH let's allow all questions like 'Which is right "Is you is?" or "Is you ain't?" '
@MattЭллен um...and injection/gas/chair don't have that same drawback?

12:36 PM
does you does or does you don't?

@MattЭллен Yes.

@Mitch I was thinking more that maybe execution isn't the best option.

Oh.

but a gas injected chair sounds fun

It would totally kill you.

maybe 'expectation of a random variable' ?

@Caleb Sorry, I didn't even look at it. A community member who is active over there and usually has good sense suggested the migration, so I just did it.

or just expectation?

like "life expectancy's expected value" rather "expectation of life expectancy"

ah, the old "pointlessly convoluted challenge". EL&U is well versed in these

12:46 PM
What's the question?

@cc that sounds a little pleonastic. I think life expectancy is considered the expected duration of life.

@KitFox if "E[X]" means "the expectation of X" how do you say that if X is "life expectancy"
I think

Let me actually look at it this time.

12:49 PM
@Caleb link?

Q: Why does the word "void" in Romans 3:31 mean "nullify"?

sandy sandaineWhy would footnotes pertaining to the words "make void" in this passage of Romans be understood as "nullify"? Romans 3:31, King James Bible "Authorized Version", Cambridge Edition Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

I tweaked it some so maybe look at revisions or the copy on E&L, but it really isn't much of a hermeneutics question.

Eh. It's not really on-topic. I think if OP looked up "void" in a dictionary, it would explain it.
I guess the user who suggested migration thought it might be more about the meaning of the word that was translated, which would be ... Greek? So not on-topic here.
