If we're going to talk about LEGO, you have to see and hear the LEGO Harpsichord

2:06 PM
@Cerberus I knew we were kindred spirits. Best tower ever, right? I think I used to use it as the hinge in much larger castles I built around it on two separate plates, designed to open and close. ...My LEGO sets are all in my parents' attic, I think - now I really wish I had space for them in my apartment :)
@Rhodri My god, that is amazing.

Q: How does one find find $882,198 in $100 bills?

AntsIn one of the articles about Whitey Bulger's arrest, the journalist wrote that investigators found $822,198 in $100 bills When I jokingly pointed this out to friends and family, everybody seemed to be dazzled by the big number that they don't realize the number is not a multiple of 100. I...

completely off-topic

@JSBangs Clearly.
Also @JSBangs ...
My answer to your hence question will be removed, it must be wrong.

you don't have to delete it.
it's up to you, really

Well, deletion was my feeling, since (to my current reckoning) it is simply wrong. That's a shame, though, perhaps.
I was just going to let you know first that although I didn't really have extra time to dig into it, the more I thought of it over the rest of the evening after discussing, it seemed like I didn't even need to, it just can't be applied in that way.

Q: Opposite of trigonometric functions

OghmaOsirisI would ask this on math.stackexchange.com, but it seems to be more related to the definition of 'opposite' rather than the definition of the trig functions. My question is: what actually is the opposite of the sine of x (sin)? Is it the cosine (cos)? Is it the cosecant (csc)? Is it the inverse...

Another off-topic question.
As I said in my comment, (1) you need to know math to answer the question, and (2) you don't actually have to know English to answer the question - it could have been asked in any language that happens to have the concept of "opposite". Ergo, off-topic.

@z7sg My fellow unicorn, how nice to see you!
You can hear the crickets in here today.

Hello aedia!
It is quiet today, yes... I just dropped in to see how the fine people of ELU chat were.
I haven't had much inclination to answer any questions recently.

@z7sg Hungry and tired and wishing to go home already about sums it up.
I've barely had a moment between meetings and irritating worky things. You know. Actual work or something.

Oh dear! Still at work? I wish I could cheer you up with a sweet, fresh bale of hay.
Or candy-floss as the humans would call it.

@z7sg Mmm. I'll have to imagine it.

I hate my work so much...I'm sitting here trying to refresh my CV.

10:27 PM
It's not terribly late here, only 18:30, but still, ugh, I'm tired of finding one thing I missed and having to re-output a whole bunch of PDFs. I need my own proofreader.
@z7sg Ooh, a CV! You must be on the other side of the pond or in academia. I've only got a resume.

Ah, but then you are diligent. I worked on a translation once and I made so many mistakes. It was difficult.
Yes I'm in the UK!

@z7sg Almost your bedtime then, isn't it? ;)

Naaaa I don't wanna go to bed! :P
:(

@z7sg Me neither. Last night I played Minecraft until very late. Terrible habit.

I've never got into that. Some of my friends play it and they say "wooo I just made a logic gate" or like "forged a giant glass sphere" or other such things... uhhh ok guys, sounds fun! :|
They have their own private server and stuff, floating islands and they all have their own little house to hide in when the monsters come out. I'm not going to play, na-uh. ;)

10:39 PM
I've been playing it in multiplayer on my own server with my better half, and with my brother (we used to play LEGO together surprisingly cooperatively for siblings) so it's quite fun to work on a mutual construction project.
That's the problem. First you make the house. Then you hide from monsters. Then you think, ok, let's make another house. And some bridges. And well-lit paths so the monsters don't get us. And then it's 02:00 and you fall asleep dreaming of the bloody thing.
I naively thought that I couldn't get addicted to a game without a defined endpoint. Turns out it's worse. Don't start.

Yes I would get addicted for sure, I love building games. I played a lot of simcity 4. No endpoint just means you can't stop playing ever!

@z7sg I didn't play that particular Sim City, but I played it long ago... and I've played the last few Civilization versions, including one for mobile. I think that one was the only one where I really finished games since they were geared a lot shorter.
Man, now I want to play some super old simcity with the monsters all wrecking my towns.
Arrrgh, stupid PDF combiner, why do you think you know better than me? I know I want to add the same file twice. It's for a reason. I promise.

@aedia I've banned myself from all that stuff now. I'm too old! :( Now I only play games with an actual ending, that don't make you stay up til 4am.

10:58 PM
@z7sg I really should do that, but I don't want to admit I'm a grownup yet.
@z7sg Being responsible about doing my laundry and such is one thing. But suppose I admit I'm old, and suddenly, I forget how to be an incurable cynic? They'd pull the wool over my eyes in a flash like with all those other grownups. I might start thinking, wow, I really have to help my company leverage our talent to grow our business.

@aedia Ick! If I heard a unicorn uttering corporate-speak like that I would die inside. :)
Btw I'm still irresponsible about my laundry unless someone comes over. Hehe

@z7sg My closet space is at a premium, but I've still got a basket in the closet for the clean stuff I haven't bothered to fold :)

11:28 PM
@z7sg I'm outta here. Finally. Whoda thunk this stupid PDF would take so long? I gotta start remembering to budget double time for everything I haven't done exceedingly recently.
G'night and don't stay up too late ;)
