12:28 AM
Oh, no, not war!

Almost time to go home! I only have yesterday's and today's work left to do...
(No, actually, just about fifteen more minutes of stuff that has to get done or someone might care.)
My amazing dinner.

That looks...wholesome.

It has vitamins and sort of tastes like chocolate, if someone put a lot of cereal in your chocolate.

Don't work to hard, by the way. Better if something doesn't get done than that you should collapse.
And my apologies for that warped sentence.

It worked fine in my warped brain.
@Cerberus I appreciate the support. I just have trouble standing up to people and I feel that some of the work I do is important to actual users out there, so it's very hard to say no.

12:57 AM
@aediaλ If you collapse, the users are worse off.
So you could sort of hold that before their little faces.
Would you date with someone who writes cylabil?

@Cerberus no. of course i also wouldn't date someone who uses the unidiomatic date with

@JSBᾶngs Oops!
Well I'm not trying to date you.

Is cylabil Dutch for syllable?

@Cerberus that's a relief.

@Kitḫ Not even.

1:10 AM
@Kitḫ no no no. ananas is Dutch for syllable

@JSBᾶngs Oh right. Thanks. I forgotten all my Dutch.

Silly.

Okay it was more than fifteen minutes.
But less than an hour.
I'm going home now for real.

Bye!

Bye Aed!

1:16 AM
It's shaping up to be a busy weekend, but enjoy your weekends if I don't see you for a couple days! :)

@JSBᾶngs I mean, I would check my spelling and grammar (hangs heads in shame over contamination) in the initial stages of dating...is that bad?
@aediaλ You too, and don't work too hard!

@Cerberus i don't think so

You don't think that is bad?

i don't know if i would consider bad spelling to be a deal-breaker, but i don't think you're insane for taking it into account

OK.

1:19 AM
if nothing else, it reflects general level of education, which can reflect a whole bunch of other things that are probably more important to you

Exactly.
Maybe judging people by their spelling is about as bad as judging them by their appearance.
The thing is, if you're spelling syllable incorrectly, you probably know it is a difficult word to spell. But you choose not to look it up, which probably means you don't care about such things.
I mean, I have to look up the dumbest things, like ei v. ij in Dutch.

@Cerberus That's not bad. I once dumped a guy because he always spelled "does" as "dose."

But at least I do so.
@Kitḫ Hehe. Now I feel better.

@Kitḫ aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! that would drive me nuts

So is it worse, better, or about the same if you judge people by their language as compared to their appearance?

1:23 AM
I know, right?
@Cerberus You're asking me?

@Kitḫ Maybe!
Most people will confess to the latter but not to the former.
"You're not dating her because you're not attracted to her body? Well, that is unfortunate, but understandable."

everyone judges people by their appearance. so what? why is this supposed to be a bad thing?

I do both.

in a long relationship you'll want to have more than just physical attraction. but i assume that you'll also want more than just impeccable spelling.

I can't change what I am and am not attracted to.

1:26 AM
"You won't date her because her grammar is bad? You evil snob! You're inhibiting democracy!"

I am not going to date a fat chick just to prove that fat chicks are OK.

How about if she wears the wrong clothes?

@Kitḫ i like a chick with a little belly fat, personally

@JSBᾶngs I'm not talking round; I'm talking rubenesque.

well that i agree with

1:28 AM
Anyhow, @Cerb, you're talking about people you date, not people in general.

no, wait. isn't that backwards?

You ought to be choosy.

@Kitḫ Yes, absolutely.

@JSBᾶngs I don't mind women who are womanly and round and ripe. Rubenesque is a bit too much for my taste.
@Cerberus So why worry about it?

@Kitḫ ok, i was interpreting "rubenesque" as less obese than "round"

1:30 AM
But I find that most people apply the same criteria to people in all situations—just more or less strictly. In the case of colleagues, not strict at all; but they will still be more likely to flock to people who fit their dating categories than otherwise, on average.

@JSBᾶngs Oh, yes, I understand now.
"Curvy" was what I was thinking.

"curvy" is delicious

Mm-hmm.
Delightful, even.

I never quite understand the subtle differences between all these euphemisms and non-euphemisms. Perhaps I'm not supposed to.

Lindsay Lohan is "thin" (too thin), Kate Winslet is whatever category Kit and I agree is good. "curvy" or "rubenesque" or whatever
i can't think of a legitimately fat actress
rosie o'donnel?

1:38 AM
Hmm. Can't think of one right away.

roseanne barr, but she's pretty much old news

shudders

i can't think of any fat actresses that are close to my age or younger

How about Nigella?

are those people supposed to be fat? b/c none of them are

1:42 AM
Who?

i assume you mean the woman on the left. not fat.

user19161
I just remembered JSBangs is an actor too.

in this middle category we're disputing about

user19161
Fat is not well-defined.

1:44 AM
@JSBᾶngs I didn't mean she was fat. At all.

user19161
I don't consider the above fat though.

She's just curvy, I'd say?

user19161
I prefer curvy women actually.

@Cerberus hot

I just think Nigella would be far more able to bear children than some of her skinny, model fellow women.

user19161
1:44 AM
@JSBᾶngs Not hot.

yes, curvy. exactly my type.

@JSBᾶngs Good.

user19161
@JSBᾶngs Curvy, but not hot.

@JasperLoy suit yourself

You know Nigella?
She is a television chef.
Always uses loads of butter. And sugar. And chocolate. And double cream.
All in the same dessert.

user19161
1:46 AM
@Cerberus Oh dear, that does sound fat!

@Cerberus Oh yes.

i don't know Nigella, but that's OK

user19161
I would say Amanda Bynes is curvy and hot.

@Cerberus Oh my, my, I would love a double cream something with her.

Bynes is not particularly curvy
but she's plenty cute

1:47 AM
Pics?

user19161
@JSBᾶngs Used to be but she slimmed down.

@Kitḫ Let me find you a video.

user19161

Meh. Not my type.

user19161
1:49 AM
Well, I think my type is not anybody else's type here.

@Jasper ninja'd me. my computer is taking a long time to load images.

I prefer grown women to little girls.

user19161
@Kitḫ She's not that young.

@JasperLoy She looks nice, but a little bit too polished, perhaps.
This is Nigella at work. ^

amusingly, Google suggests that I search for "amanda bynes fat"

1:50 AM
I know she's 25, but she looks like a teenager.

Aww.

user19161
I really like Amanda and Channing in She's the Man.

Nigella is making a three-course dinner in 30 minutes, or so she claims.

user19161
She's the Man is a 2006 American romantic comedy film directed by Andy Fickman, based on Twelfth Night, a play by William Shakespeare. The film stars Amanda Bynes, Channing Tatum, Laura Ramsey and Vinnie Jones. The film centers around teenager Viola Hastings who enters her brother's school in his place, pretending to be male, in order to play with the boys' soccer team. Plot Viola Hastings (Amanda Bynes) is a high school soccer player at Cornwall, which has just cut its girls' soccer team. After her request to join the boys' team is refused by the misogynistic coach, she finds a way to ...

The dessert is, surprisingly, chocolate mousse.

1:51 AM
so this is Amanda Bynes "fat":

Hahaha.

user19161
Ah the face looks more puffy.

She is still almost skinny.

user19161
But I like this type.

Well, not her cheeks.

1:51 AM
She must have had her wisdom teeth out.

I don't know. Give me Nigella. And her cooking.

@Cerberus Hot damn.

user19161
I have no wisdom teeth even though I am full of wisdom, or maybe just full of shit.

@Kitḫ Thanks! She is, isn't she...
She is a mother of two or three.

That is so encouraging.

1:52 AM
Hehe.

Oooh! Thundercats!

user19161
I tell you my favourite actresses...

Well, she probably doesn't have any other job.

PEOPLE. i am trying to do work and you're distracting me with hot/"fat" actresses

Thundercats? Gimme!

user19161
Do not watch if you cannot control yourself.

I don't watch Woody Allen flicks anymore.

user19161
That film has the guy ripping her clothes apart.

@JSBᾶngs Oh, and The Prestige. What a beautiful film.

@JSBᾶngs She is cute, but her face has such odd proportions.

1:57 AM
@Cerberus yes, but that's what i like. Johansson's face is also unusually proportioned.

I prefer this picture to the others on Wiki.

user19161
Let me tell you my favourite actors now...

@Cerberus Never followed her news.

@Cerberus I lost interest once she lost her virginity.

I never lost interest in her, since I never had any. Except that she seems so pathetic. She isn't even pretty, and she peaked so long that she is probably looking at a life of misery.

@Cerberus agreed
hey, what do we think of the Twilight leads?
i, for one, can't figure out why anyone thinks either of them is attractive

Pics or it didn't happen.
I.e. I don't know who they are.

The girl is pretty.

user19161
I say neither of them are as hot as Jacob played by my dear Taylor.

user19161
Taylor got the role even though they initially wanted Michael Copon for the role.

user19161
In fact Taylor went to work out so hard just to get the role I think.

user19161
Well, I am glad he did, more eye candy for me.

2:12 AM
i don't think that the girl is pretty.
well, a little pretty, at least in that picture. but really not my thing.

but i'm going to continue to pretend that i do

I vaguely recollect that you had reddish hair.

user19161
2:21 AM
@JSBᾶngs I was not joking about the resemblance. As you know my mind works in strange ways.

@Kitḫ i do not have reddish hair. i had a reddish beard

Ah, that was it then.
Big, bushy reddish beard. That's about all I can remember. And that you were holding a wee bairn.

@Kitḫ Nice. She looks a bit...naughty.

@Cerberus Oh, yes.
You should watch Bound.
Gah.

@JSBᾶngs Yay!

mind you, i don't think he's hot. but i like him.

He's not without his charms.
But not hot, especially when he is trying really hard to look cool.

he's much more adorable when he's acting like a big dork
like Michael Cera (sp?)

Exactly.
Or at least when he's focused on being charming instead of cool.
Anyway, it's been fun, but I gotta run.
Good night, alls!

Q: Neutral synonym of "scientific fundamentalist"

HauserIs there a english word covering this meaning? I know scientific fundamentalist is often used, but it has a very negative connotation (imho), as often linked in media to terrorism. I'm not inclined to use it for describing a popular scientist. In German you could use the noun Paradigma (paradigm)...

somebody should take care of that question

@Theta30 There's a lot to be said about the subject. But 1) it's poorly written and framed and has all sorts of leading assumptions that I just don't agree with. and 2) it's about translation of a -cultural- term...this is very specific to the cultural discussion about science and how people think about it. Maybe better for philosophy.SE?

@Mitch I mean his last edit
peeving about comments, close votes etc., using your name
I think he should use the comment section, not the body of the question

9:42 PM
@Theta30 oh...yeah...that only mildly annoyed me because even though he was using my name it didn't really match well with what I thought was going on, so I couldn't take it personally. But yeah, it's kinda inappropriate as part of an answer.

@Theta30 That user has a loooooooong history of really poor questions on both ELU and GLU.
He also holds the record for cross-posting the exact same stuff on both sites.

That's quite telling, innit. Good riddance.
