I wonder is this THE CHAT area for reaching out to persons I would like to see nominate themselves. Also is every current moderator leaving or is this election for openings as those that currently serve have announced no new commitment as their vacancy is about to open? I really like the current Mods and would be disappointed to see them leave.

@xtrchessreal Once a mod is elected he/she remain mod until they decide to step down. As of now there's no such official announcement. So, I guess no one is stepping down. Moreover, as Jon has already said in the very first message: This room is intended as a place to converse with candidates. You can chat with candidates who nominated themselves here. They would be present here to have a discussion.

@xtrchessreal This is an election for additional moderators, not to replace anybody.

@Oli Just out of curiosity - how does mods communicate between each other? Is it a chat room, or is it separate infrastructure? And is there a mod-only "Message user"-button? :)
@vidarlo We have a seeeeecret room.
aight :) I assumed something like that :)

@HenryWHHackv2.1.3 this chat is for discussing the election and asking questions of the candidates. If you decide you do want to run, then by all means come back for a discussion. If you have anything you would like to ask of the candidates then, again, please ask. But if you just want to muse about whether or not you should run, this isn't really the place for it.

If I haven't answered any questions on this site is it still OK to sign up?
@HenryWHHackv2.1.3 Sure - the requirements are listed on the [election page](https://askubuntu.com/election):

>In the nomination phase, any community member in good standing with more than 300 reputation may nominate themselves to be a community moderator.
