@rak1507 slowing down primitives to have consistent operation đź‘Ť

@rak1507 @Razetime slowing down individual primitives? you know i would never do something as complicated as that. it's much simpler to patch \t :)

1 hour later…
14:09
@ngn obviously the more complicated thing is the better thing to do!

1 hour later…
15:11
@ngn do the while overloads of over/scan have the same truthiness logic as $[;;]'s? specifically treating empty lists as false
ngn
ngn
15:36
@Razetime i think dyalog should hire you, that's the attitude! :P
@coltim it should be the same logic
@Traws that procedure is too demanding for me. if anybody else wants to be requesting write access for new users, i'd be happy to make them room owner.
@coltim you're probably gonna like this
16:08
@ngn very nice! never even thought of generalizing it to work outside of just $[;;]s...
what are the rules with them re: how variables are scoped?
ngn
ngn
@coltim variables are still only global or local to a function
[ ] doesn't introduce a new scope
@ngn hmm what's going on with this? it works when there is one block per line but not when there are multiple
ngn
ngn
16:29
@coltim bug. it returns from the current line / function.
i had progn before but it could only occur at the top level of a function body. now i repurposed that for [ ] too, but forgot to change the compiler to not add a "return" at the end.
i'll fix it later
@ngn ah gotcha
is it disambiguated from the M-expression style? like if there's a semicolon, space, beginning of line, etc. to its left
ngn
ngn
16:51
@coltim if the "[" immediately follows a term (noun or verb), then "[" applies to that term like an m-expr, otherwise it's what i call a progn
if there's a simpler way, i'd change it

@ngn ah ok, that’s fair. maybe then we could put a link to the discord, or the wiki in the description and inform about the 20 rep limitation? just so that non-golfers interested in k don't leave immediately after discovering that barrier.
ngn
ngn
@Traws sure. do you want to write the text for the description?
@ngn no. your english is better than mine :)
ngn
ngn
@Traws hah :) do you have at least the link to discord?
ngn
ngn
thanks

I made a new one because the one at the wiki expired. I will update there.

room topic changed to the k tree: See github.com/JohnEarnest/ok/blob/gh-pages/docs/Manual.md for a quick introduction to k (k6 dialect). If you want to chat here but have less than 20 reputation, please contact us through another channel (for instance: discord.gg/qb4NXP4tKw) and we'll ask the mods to grant you explicit write access. @ngn it's great. thanks
