FWIW, I'm not certain why it is important that Jesus has a human soul that was created the same as every other human being, but I am certain that it is the teaching of the Catholic Church and I'll take it as truth because of it.
I've been thinking a lot about the idea as late because I've been reading over all those good answers to kris's question.
One thing St. Paul said is that Jesus is like us in "All things but sin". So he's got everything that a human being would have, including a created human soul.
The very good rationale, given by the author of the blog I cited said the same thing the Priest who I heard say that Jesus' human soul was created at the Incarnation - that He can only redeem what He created.
However, he says the word "assumed" as well as "created"
I'm not sure what a human soul is that you think it so important that it couldn't have been created for God to assume at the Incarnation. The point is BIGGER if you think about it in this context.
God did something miraculous and became fully man while remaining fully divine.
Why would Jesus have had a human soul from the beginning of time? Why would say "Oh blessed fault of Adam that merited for us so great a redeemer?"

@Peter Turner it's good to ponder all the thoughts that comes up in the thread..I now admit I committed a mistake on understanding the pre-existent of the soul of Jesus & Mary in eternity. A soul cannot exist in eternity besides the Infinite Glory of God, the soul must be glorified first or become a spirit in the perfect likeness of God. That's why Adam & Eve although sinless cannot enter God's Kingdom,
@Peter Turner cont..So Jesus & Mary's soul although sinless must journey first and fulfill their mission in order for their sinless soul to become a glorified soul meaning transform into a spirit that is like the Spirit of God. As scriptures states all must worship God in spirit & Truth..
unless our soul becomes like or transform into spirit it cannot enters in the Kingdom of God where only a glorified soul can enter.
