I've got a dumb question, not worth asking on meta: twice now, I've flagged answers that were three or four words and not even complete sentences as 'low quality' and had the flags rejected because "flags should not be used to indicate technical inaccuracies, or an altogether wrong answer". The question is: am I right to think there's no way to add info to a flag like that indicating why you're flagging?

@MartyFouts I'm not of sure all of them right off the top of my head, but I think know at least one you are referring to. The answer was correct, just could have been communicated better. To me, a comment to that effect, or even an edit if one is so inclined would be more useful to the author rather than an LQ flag.

@Timaroberts thanks, I get the point and will act on it. But does that mean the flag was declined for a different reason than stated? Is that because the decline interface doesn't have a reason to the effect of "should be edited rather than flagged" that a moderator can use?

@MartyFouts I declined the flag yesterday because the answer was well formatted and an honest attempt at answering the question (that particular decline reason just seemed better than using one of the others we have.) While there is an area for additional feedback that mods can add to flags, I didn't think of it being confusing as is.

@Timaroberts Alas, it was not well formatted when I flagged it. It got edited in the meantime. Sometimes I wish there was a way to cancel a flag before it gets moderated. Anyway, I found the stated reason confusing precisely because I didn't flag the answer because of any of the reasons in the decline. I flagged it because it was badly written at the time I saw it. In future I'll follow your observation and comment or edit instead of flagging answers like that.

@MartyFouts you can retract a flag if you ever need to if that's what mean. This may help in that regard. Just click the flag icon on the post or comment again and you should see a link to retract the flag.

@Timaroberts I should have known that. It is precisely what I meant. Had I seen the edit in time I would have retracted that flag and there was another one a day or so ago where I flagged something I didn't mean to -- and it was properly rejected, but at a waste of moderator time. Thanks again.
