at least with tillable textures

I usually end up getting non tilable textures, and then tiling them afterwards in GIMP

The results aren't usually all that good though

@TARDISMaker Making them seamless by yourself is quite the challenge, I agree.

never really had the guts to try it out

How well it works depends on the texture

It doesn't work well with things that have lots of contrast and patterns

oh, I thought about the manual way with offset, clone brushing then offset again

I find that I can usually get it to work with stuff like dirt and wood

This is how I learned it from pixel tutorials

but the filter is probably more comfortable xD

There's another way that it can be done in photoshop that I want to try, but I need to find some of the equivalent tools in gimp (or krita)

And the image naming convention is to_use_underscores_and_all_lower_case.png

I'm tired of this giraffe really, I know it must be a simple thing but this is the thing I would kill first

I even applied subdivision surface and mirror modifiers

and now it's so complicated :D

@wuden btw, this might be some work but I would put the seams somewhere, where they are not that obvious. Like at the bottom of it, going along the stomach and the inner sides of the extremities.

no matter where I put them I would like to hide them

@wuden Maybe you should just make the texture seamless.

because the colors on both sides of the seam have quite the difference in brightness

but fur looks kinda realistic, but painting on face will look akward

the transition would look terrible

@wuden Oh, yeah, if you want realism, you should use hair particles for the fur

but that will bring me alot of lag i guess

I guess you could fake it with a bump map, but it would look a lot better as actually hair

@wuden when you do that, you have to make sure that you're painting onto a decently high resolution texture

@wuden When you go in Edit mode with the UV map in the UV editor, go to UVs then go to Export UV Layout (make sure to select all the faces first). You can then use the UV Layout in photoshop or gimp as a mask and make the texture there, I find it more comfortable.

you need to put them in in places that just aren't going to be seen much because of how the geometry is laid out

That will hide them better

usually in some sort of crease will do the trick

then if it's not perfectly taken care of in the image, it will still be hidden a bit

But you still have to cover it up in the texture

Also, having a seamless texture won't help here

it's impossible to make them invisible? just harder visible?
