Been thinking about the vague phrase "detecting when the pattern in the data changes'. A form of anomaly detection I guess. I was thinking about those VARCHAR fields paired with datetimes. Combining with the notion of regular expression (regex) being one of those ways of "describing the pattern in the data", it occurred to me that changes in the regex that describes the data up to a given date would indicate that something about the data is different in its pattern.
