Q: Trait to extend iterators with parallelized mapping function

Richard NeumannWorking on a project of mine, I wanted to parallelize mapping operations on an input stream. I found pariter on crates.io but it did not fit my needs, because its generic's bounds require the iterator to be 'static, which is not what I want (the iterators I work with are not 'static). I am not to...

Q: I Have made an Event System in C++

Andrei RostI am excited to share that I have developed an event system in C++. I have always been passionate about programming and have long aspired to create a low-level game engine solely using C++, OpenGL, and GLFW. This project has been a personal challenge and really fun too. To begin with, I created m...

Q: Is there any anyway to decrease variable declaration?

kvk30for _ in range(int(input())): x,y = map(int, input().split()) print(x*y) I am trying to solve a simple calculation problem with fewer declared variables, is there any way to optimize the above code?

@CaptainObvious User deleted the question after receiving a good answer. I've cast a reopen vote.
Personally I consider it a nasty practice when people do that.
I'd undelete it in a heartbeat if I weren't on strike. Sorry :-(

Hello. Question about if you "should" do this or that does not match the criteria of this site. codereview.stackexchange.com seems a better fit. Moreover, for SO, please ask only one question per question. — Itération 122442 37 secs ago
@Itération122442 "what I should do next- I know I need to create a function to see if its been won, tied or lost but not sure how to bring that function back to the ones I have made-should make the return of that function be a boolean and then try to use it elsewhere?" Is not at all on-topic on Code Review. — Peilonrayz 57 secs ago

Q: Printing the elements of a linked list

bruceyAn absolute beginner here who is practising linked list problems in hackerrank. Stumbled upon this question which is categorised as easy. Given a pointer to the head node of the linked list, print each node's data element. Link to question https://www.hackerrank.com/challenges/print-the-elements-...

Q: Highlighting individual words within text within selection of cells using VBA

AS1I am using the below code (which I found elsewhere, not my own work) to highlight text within a selection of cells. It sits within a larger loop so that there is a list of values which are passed via the fieldValue variable to be highlighted. It looks promising, however where a cell contains mult...

A: Idiomaticy of macros in C++

sbi When are macros idiomatic and when should they be avoided? Macros are idiomatic only when there is no alternative to their use. Examples are include guards (they are the only portable form), embedded domain-specific languages, special compiler support not available through other language fea...

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ In C++ they should be avoided, in other languages it depends, how would VBA survive without them? They do have a place in C programming.
@Duga Code fence
16:14
@Mast-onstrike maybe one could also use a straw in many cases
a siphon might be another option
@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Have you ever had to siphon gasoline? Really not fun.
My experience was after the 1994 earthquake in Los Angeles.
Needed to get gas out of a car for a generator.
@pacmaninbw no but I've heard it happens around here ... regularly? at least periodically
@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ That is what locking gas caps are for.
@pacmaninbw I've siphoned gasoline, diesel, hydrochloric acid, bleach...
Not all of those went right the first time...
Is a mouthful of gasoline going right?
16:23
Actually I've failed 3 out of 4 at least once...
Hydrochloric acid?
Diesel is the only one I never failed.
Where I grew up, we did some maintenance on old cars. And I did high school organic chemistry quite wrong.
When you say failed, does that mean you didn't get the flow going?
@pacmaninbw That means I swallowed it. Getting the flow going is the easy part.
I only turned my thumb black in chemistry once.
16:26
I only launched a single test tube.
2
I don't remember swallowing the gas, but I came close.
Hydrochloric acid is often enough a liquid.
My girlfriends roommate in college worked in the chemistry department. I was lucky I didn't have to pay for the beakers I broke.
@Mast-onstrike The only way I would siphon acid is with a pipette.
Gasoline tastes really bad.
I was dizzy for a while afterwards.
@pacmaninbw I heard on the news in recent months that drills were used - either on the intake area, or else just the bottom of the tank 😏
17:19
That would do it.

@pacmaninbw Yes, and I failed.
Apparently I'm unsuitable for organic chem.
You can suck at your job, or suck too hard at your job.

@Mast-onstrike I am unsuitable for any chemistry.
Probably why I never got married.

Q: Does dot net contain a hierarchical dictionary?

JohnLBevanIs there an existing class in .Net for representing and querying hierarchical data; i.e. providing methods which allow you to test whether one item is an ancestor or descendant of another, or to provide a way to fetch all ancestors/descendants recursively from a given object? Failing that, I've c...
