Debugging Excel, fun.
Somebody should turn this mess into VBA. At least it will turn into a readable mess.
=ALS(ISLEEG(V21);"";ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=1,1);2,7;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=1,5);3,7;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=2,2);5;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=3);6,5;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=4);9;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=5,5);11,7;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=7,5);14,4;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=11);22;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=15);29;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=18);34;ALS(EN(N21="Freq";V21=22);40;ALS(EN(N21="Servo";V21=0,55);1,8;ALS(EN(N21="Servo";V21=0,75);2,2;ALS(EN(N21="Servo";V21=1,1);2,8;

Can you move Freq out of the first equation? That's a lot of repitition. Also, the rest looks like it could benefit from an SVERWEIS (<- German variant of whatever it's called in English)
@Mast Oh god, that's a point-wise if-based lookup table.

@Zeta vLookup?

That sounds right

@Zeta Honestly, I'm not sure I should try. I think the appropriate thing to do is write tests based on current behaviour and write something that does exactly what that used to do.
Basically, it checks whether a specific motor is driven by frequency-controller or servo-controller and calculates power based on who knows what for who knows what reason.

@Mast Well, one could move the Freq and Servo checks out first, e.g.
=ALS(ISLEEG(V21);"";
    ALS(N21="Freq";
        ALS(V21=1,1;2,7;
            ALS(V21=1,5;3,7;
                ALS(V21=2,2;5;
                    ALS(V21=3;6,5;
                        ALS(V21=4;9;
                            ALS(V21=5,5;11,7;
                                ALS(V21=7,5;14,4;
                                    ALS(V21=11;22;
                                        ALS(V21=15;29;
                                            ALS(V21=18;34;
                                                ALS(V21=22;40;"NOT COVERED")

Well, I know the reason, there are more cells after this that calculate other values and at the end there's another cell picking a part based on all those calculated values.

10:01 AM
@Zeta At that point, one could remove the inner ALS by a VLOOKUP.

Right, because this level of nesting is beyond awful.

10:19 AM
I'm going to extract all this data, put it in a table and do the rest with lookups. That's how it's supposed to be done and much more maintainable than this crap.

@Taplar CR is for code that is working to the best of the author's knowledge. But the author states in this post that it isn't working: "I'm mostly concerned about the fact that it doesn't appear to work in some cases, especially with more complex examples", making it off-topic for CR. The problem is that the author is using "improvement" and "simplify" when really they're asking two discrete questions: 1) "how can I fix it" and 2) "how can I improve it". The first is on-topic for SO (but the second makes it "too broad"). — ggorlen 13 secs ago
