@nhgrif Looking through the window doesn't cut it anymore?

Did you have Martin and nvoigt in here?
How did it go?
@jacwah Martijn and nvoigt, yes.

Hello, @MartijnPieters
@Mast Thanks
I don't know if I can link this but, did the OP log in under a new account and edit his own question? Confused
Looks like it.
13:13
@DanPantry happens sometimes, but can't be said for sure
if you think that, you should drop the editor a note to request a merger
Looks like it was already rejected
Marc dunked it, good call.
better safe than sorry :)
could someone drop a "code-only alternative solution" comment on this answer, please?
@Vogel612 Links to a question, not answer.

every time I use a Mac, I wish the computer had a face so I could punch it
@DanPantry different users. Seems like someone didn't get the "A" in "Q&A"
@Vogel612 or a moderator flag whenever you suspect one user having duplicate accounts.
1) Paint a smiley on it.
2) Punch smiley.
3) ???
4) Profit!
@Mast thats the only time youll see "Punch a mac" and "profit" in the same paragraph
@SimonAndréForsberg IIRC mergers must happen by Dev (or at least employee) ...
You could use any in is_divisible. Also, the docstring implies that it is only ever used as a partial, which is confusing. Also, might be a better question for CodeReview. — tobias_k 29 secs ago
13:30
@rolfl They're not that bad
@DanPantry Especially since everything involving a mac just costs you money :P
Scandinavian key-bindings are better on a mac. /end of my positive mac list.
@Quill I found out last weekend I prefer a Mac over an IPad.
Never thought a Mac would win any argument for me...
@Vogel612 Yes, theny must, but the mod can streamline the process, and has specific tools to point the CM/dev in the right direction.
not trying to state the obvious here, but this just means IPads are even worse.
@rolfl Do mods have a 'flag for CM attention' flag like regular users have a 'flag for moderator attention' one?

@Mast In essence, yes.

Shog9Not calling this complete just yet, but we've added something toward this end: This is available from the "mod" menu on user pages, and generates a ticket in our internal queue that'll look something like this: You can use this for any issue that requires our oversight, provided you include...

new-ish feature
@CaptainObvious A interview question? That's something I haven't seen yet IIRC.
@rolfl That's relatively fresh indeed.
@JohnSnow Oh, you're Swedish!?
@SimonAndréForsberg check the posts on the main site.
you know that user already
Oh, it's Gemtastic?
Yup :)
But until I can write JavaScript without shame, I will be called JohnSnow.
13:39

@RonBeyer I was going to add to "CodeReview" but I assumed because there's an inconsistency in the logic it's probably better off here. Apologies. — Tez Wingfield 40 secs ago

I don't know how to use all my EMP's yet
oh, there it is
"recent names" is only visible to yourself and moderators, right? is it?
@Mat'sMug Correct.
@rolfl miss being a mod?
Not yet "missing it". keep trying to do things I can't though.
I miss the community, the TL, etc.
Hope they have been nice to you in there, I asked them to promise me to be nice to you folk, but you can't trust them to behave.
when @undo or @hichris suspend you, then you know you are "in".
13:50
they've been welcoming... I've pretty much only lurked so far
hi @Undo!
Remember, it is always OK to bash @undo - or mods that have left... ;-)
@rolfl no, I get suspended, hichris does the suspended. Gotta get it right.
@Mat'sMug Hi!
meh, can't kick mods....
Now I am starting to miss being a mod.
13:52
lol
@undo - where's your dog-face?
Gonna get a family puppy tomorrow
@Undo pictures please
puppies are my kryptonite
I'm gonna use it as my profile pic when we get it
Problem is that it has a nasty tendency to suck up all the light and not emit any
3
@Undo careful now....
13:54
better? :P
@DanPantry Oh, yes, we agreed I shouldn't talk bad about JS.
@Undo It's a dog, not a black hole.
@rolfl only took them 3 years..... lol jk
This one is closer to a black hole than most.
13:55
@Mast Well, without shame for how you're supposed to write Javascript
I'm still a bit "wat" with the whole functions as variables thing
That, among others.
@Mat'sMug is it even visible to yourself?
@Undo you talking about a Camera? they do suck up a bunch of light
I think I'm going to read book Nr. 8 about the subject this weekend. The other 7 didn't help enough.
@SimonAndréForsberg yes it is
13:56
But I suppose I'm learning more and more how to use them by treating them more and more like how I treat a class object in Java...
@rolfl you know you have four mods that are just a ping away!
@Malachi They do, but the puppy will emit less light than the camera can suck up.
@Mast I think I should re-read the two I've read >_>
@SimonAndréForsberg yes. and you don't even need your name to be @yourself
@Undo at least it's not a cat
13:57
TTQWOWYCIWYMYWWYTH
@Mast WT*?
too many Ws to parse..
@Mat'sMug unlike others, I've never changed my name so I wouldn't know
cough
I have been debating it....
I have this new monkey avatar I may try......
13:58
@SimonAndréForsberg I'm actually happy you went to my profile to check. Noone else has :(
@rolfl as long as it's still a monkey
@Mast Time to Quit Work Over What You Could Instead Want Your Mouse... I give up.
@rolfl looks like a boring day at the office O.o
@rolfl oh, and still baboons
13:59
Hmmm, there's a typo in it...
TTQWOWYCIWYTYWWYTH
@Undo what happened to the icon?
oh lol
Amazing how fast people notice
Service dog?
14:00
Puppy in training.
A real one?
Cute :3
The puppy occupied space and time, if that's what you mean
Much more time than space
Yeah, they do that. That's why I don't have a dog atm
Though the rumours go that the CEO here loves dogs so if you have a well behaved one, it can come with you.

yup.... a few times.

^^^ expect to see that link a lot as a mod.
14:12
I suppose so
@Jamiec The problem with your question is (as the off topic reason states) that we're missing information we need: a clear problem statement "need help making JavaScript dynamic" is not a clear problem statement; including the actual problem you face; as well as some cleanup of your question (we don't need the meta commentary). If you're just asking for a refactoring, then your best bet is to go to codereview.stackexchange.com, a site made for these things. — George Stocker ♦ 22 secs ago

This question should probably be migrated to codereview.stackexchange.com. — Brian Vandenberg 42 secs ago
@BrianVandenberg This is off-topic on CodeReview. CodeReview is only for full working code. As the O.P. states, quoting, "But the solution is wrong.". This means that the code isn't fully working, which means it isn't ready for review. — Ismael Miguel 23 secs ago
14:55
@IsmaelMiguel - FYI - Code Review, not CodeReview.
how do you do two different languages in a post again? I need Javascript and then HTML, or the other way around
Ctrl+M
<!-- language: lang-js -->
<!-- language: html -->
@Mat'sMug never thought of that. I don't think my ASP.NET tags will play nice in the stack snippet though
14:56
@rolfl Is there any difference?
@IsmaelMiguel Yes, one is not Code Review, the other is.
if it's JS, it should work
@rolfl Just like JAVA isn't Java?

Oh, that's a good reason
@IsmaelMiguel Context.
PascalCase is perfect for a number of things, but when used in other places, it is a WTF.
It all depends on the context.
Alright, that is another great reason

You already asked, and accepted an answer I wrote, on this question, in which I told you that supertest does not use app.listen(). You cannot test your application in this manner without using supertest if you don't want to reinvent the wheel. Use supertest, that's what it is there for. Just because you call this type of test a 'unit test' doesn't make it so. Unit testing is when you test a singular function. You cannot test GET / with a single function because that necessarily involves two moving parts - the router and the function that is assigned to that route. — Dan Pantry 1 min ago
15:35
Weren't you gonna change your name as well, @rolfl?
context: SO user posts question about koa and unit testing. I reply, he accepts my question, then tells me I'm wrong because I'm using supertest for the thing he wants to test (supertest is what he wants to use), then posts another exact same question, highlighting the word 'unit test' as if saying that it's a unit test makes it so

@Mat'sMug I have considered "monkey"..... that's about as far as I can go...

@rolfl Just leave it as rolfl, otherwise I have to relearn the @rolfl ping.
And that's just too much work.
@rolfl change it to @rlolf or just move one letter to annoy everyone
@DanPantry The best part is the sheer number of stars given in that picture.
How about @lɟloɹ?
15:41
@Simon / @Mat - moderation taking more, or less time/effort than you thought?
is it what you thought it was?
@rolfl hard to say
I'm supposed to be working right now...
You are working: at building a brighter and better community for Code Review.
and yet I'm here having second thoughts on how I handled a flag and single-handedly closed a question with +5 votes and 0 community close votes
@Mat'sMug CRitters are terrible voters, generally speaking.
15:43
@rolfl I think I need to learn what things I should deal with, and what things the community can deal just fine with. I was glad that @nhgrif handled the confused SO user earlier today, but the chatting with nvoigt from earlier did take some time. Did I have to do that? Maybe not.
@Mat'sMug You're always going to have second thoughts, that's what make you a human. We could have software do all the moderating, but it would never think twice about what it has done. That's why there are four mods, not just one. :)
@Mat - part of me hopes that you (plural for all mods) will do less......
@Mat'sMug I had second thoughts on some flags yesterday, I guess today it is your turn. I'm sure we will still be able to live and see tomorrow.
of course, tomorrow's Saturday, and then 3 weeks vacation!
I feel like The 2nd Monitor is Star City.
15:45
Our mods set th expectations on what mods should be doing, too high.
@EBrown All power to @Duga our savior!
4
lol
seriously, @rolfl / @anyone, thoughts on this?
@SimonAndréForsberg All hail @Duga!
mods should be free to work for the day, to not 'monitor' the site.
I will put this question on hold until the code is edited to a works-as-expected state. This will prevent any answers to be posted in the meantime, that could be invalidated after the code is edited. — Mat's Mug ♦ 36 mins ago

> This code is working, but I have noticed it seems like there's a race condition between the queries and sometimes the images will get overwrote by one of the other queries finishing after it.
My code works, until it doesn't.
4
@Mat'sMug I think that's a fine comment: it explains why the question is on hold, is not offensive, and tells the reader what to do to remedy the situation.
@rolfl In a way, I don't want to lower our moderation standard. In another way, I know I probably should, and might even need to do so one day.
@SimonAndréForsberg Honestly, once Martjin was involved, it probably would've been better if Martjin talked to him in an SO chat.
@Mat'sMug Here's the thing about moderation, as I see it.
@nhgrif "him" being nvoigt or the other user?
15:51
You no longer have the non-binding-vote option. When you see something you would normally vote for, vote anyway. It is a combination of the system-design, and community trust that you shjould have faith in.
2
You saw that question, you closed it, you had reason to, it's good.
My only advice .....
@SimonAndréForsberg nvoigt.
just do it, don't comment, or open channels of communication.
@rolfl but...... ?
The close reason is good enough... and your time is important too..
if the close reason is not good enough, then fix the close reason.
2

RSA
@nhgrif not sure it would have been entirely better, as there was both the issue of using a close reason incorrectly, and the issue about what is and what is not on-topic here.
I know it is ruthless, but, you can't be effective as a mod if you are spending your time debating the status/situation of every decision you make.
right
My Star Tree has bled dry for the day. :(
so I need a notepad document with an apology meta-answer ready to be copied and pasted on meta then ;-)
15:55
@Mat'sMug Seriously, only if @nhgrif is involved, or other people like that.....
You need people to keep you in line.
@SimonAndréForsberg nvoigt's issue was entirely how to properly close vote on SO.
that said, I wonder how long we will sustain this:
> 10 flags, average handling time 0 days 0 hours 5 minutes 0 seconds
it's true, but far too much of my mod time was spent managing those issues where 1 person disagrees with decisions that most people agree with
