@SimonAndréForsberg As far as I can see, the required behaviour is explicit in the title: "Evenly reducing an indexed array by 10%". An alternative implementation for that requirement with better performance, robustness, or readability is a code review suggestion. (Note that I'm not talking about codereview.stackexchange here, just the concept of reviewing fully working code to see if it can be improved, as distinct from examining non-working code to find the problem.) — IMSoP 11 secs ago
@IMSoP I meant that there are different ways to reduce it, for example another implementation might be to use the average values for the first ten and put that as a value in the resulting array. @Duga false positive....
16:46
@Malachi: It's not so much an issue with the code as it is a case of confusion. OP expects the interface hints to force PHP to behave in the same way as Java does. The simple fact of the matter is that PHP isn't Java, something a thorough code review would address, along with providing alternative suggestions and backing those up with documentation. It's border-line off-topic on CR, just as it is here: It's not really a code-related issue, more of an "understanding how language X differs from language Y" question — Elias Van Ootegem 2 mins ago

A note about StackOverflow: Generally, it's a better idea to ask about your specific problem (i.e. about why it doesn't work if the first person isn't checked) on its own, rather than asking that and also saying "oh and by the way tips on coding are welcome". If you'd like someone to review your code and tell you how to improve it, that's what Code Review.SE is for. — QPaysTaxes 19 secs ago

@Hosch250 You're running in a VM, right?
@skiwi Yup.
Hyper-V.

It will never run as fast as your W8.1 main OS, not running via virtualization
OK.
Because it is really slow sometimes.
The rendering isn't great, especially.
18:31
I also run it sometimes via VMWare, haven't noticed it being extremely slow, though it's a fair bit slower than the main OS
Is your main OS installed on an SSD, and is the VM disk present on the SD or HDD?
When I had Windows 8.1 preview in, I had it as the only installation.
My main OS is installed in an HDD, and the VM is on the same disk.
Meh HDDs are slow anyways, can't say much about that
Mine is a 750GB 7200 RPM with a big SSD cache.
It is no where near as fast as the Surface with only an SSD, but not bad.
Ah, I've never used those SSD-cache versions
My current storage HDD is a 2TB one without cache, but it also hits around 200 MB/s speed (or Mbps, not quite sure atm), of course the random access time is way higher
My RAM is 8GB. I had the options of 8, 10, and 12, but the 8 was the cheapest.
In the end, the setup cost about $2k, counting 3 years of the best warranty available and Office 2010 Pro.
And, Office 2013 Pro, because we bought it in the upgrade timeframe.

Posted on CS ^^
Do we need to watch other sites too!??

@SimonAndréForsberg Um. Is that code? Doesn't look like it to me......... What are they thinking??
Well, they did cross-post
the actual cross-post conttains actual code though
Yeah just saw that. Hm, interesting
@SimonAndréForsberg CS as in computer science? I didnt' know there was a CS SE.
that's the one
Do you think this should go in Code Review or stay here? — Jake 1 min ago

Huh, they have MathJax enabled in post titles, nice
This is not a Code Review question, as it is not your code from the beginning. — Simon André Forsberg 1 min ago

Q: Advices on a 2048 (game) solver

kwakMy code is at http://jsfiddle.net/crl/hmthq78t/. Some remarks on the code either on the form, or on the design of the game solver would be great var n= 4; // grid size var demoAI = new AI({maxDepth:6, minDepth:3, monoWeight:20, smoothWeight:0, freeWeight:40, maxWeight:60}) function AI(o){ ...

I think you should try the Code Review site here on SX.net for this kind of question. Also, write what you tried to solve this, and if it doesn't work as for help. — einpoklum 40 secs ago
if it doesn't work, it doesn't belong on Code Review. as is, this is off-topic on CR.SE — Malachi 1 min ago

@Duga what about CodeGolf? @SimonAndréForsberg
using (var context = new MoviepickerContext())
{
	context.Genres.Add(genre);
	context.SaveChanges();
}
first line gets hit with breakpoint
second line not
no exceptions, program keeps running
can't explain that
Do we have a DBA in here?

Q: Memory Segmentation Simulation

Evan BechtolI recently have been working on a project to simulate segmentation in memory. I wanted to create everything from scratch; not use pre-built data structures. I create a memory object that allows for "segment" nodes and "hole" nodes. A segment is: Any location in the memory object that is occupied...

@Phrancis yes :)
If it's not too complex several of us know databases pretty well. But for complex stuff there is a whole Stack site for DBAs

Well, it's mostly me gaining an interest for it. I'm learning about databases and I think they are fun. It made me interested in the profession
@Gemtastic They are fun, indeed, if you like crunching data!
@Phrancis Thank you for the welcome! I certainly hope that I can get some valuable feedback, I want to get this project to 100% and am definitely in need of some fresh eyes to look at it. — Evan Bechtol 5 mins ago
@Phrancis I like data, I like designing and I like patterns. I want to know more about databases so I was hoping I could talk to someone who works with it to know what it actually is they do.

@Malachi I don't think it is necessary to watch them.
@Phrancis Thanks
I've designed a few DB schemas, I can tell you some about it there (just don't want to pollute this room with too much DB stuff)
This doesn't save memory and it just makes performance much worse than if you had declared them in the constructor. codereview.stackexchange.com/a/28360/9258Esailija 1 min ago

Q: Most Efficient Way to Create PDO Functions

user1637291I have the following functions: function getExample($id, $otherid) { global $db; $query = 'SELECT * FROM examples WHERE id = :id AND otherid= :otherid'; try { $statement = $db->prepare($query); $statement->bindValue(':id', $id...

@CaptainObvious That's one of the better ones I've seen in a while!!
I think I spotted a new feature in the review queue.
I have an option to visit the meta review queues now.
Wasn't there earlier.
Why were my obsolete flags all declined, but the comments all deleted anyway?

TTQW... WEEKEND!
Hurrah!
I don't really have a weekend.
We had one day with everyone healthy, and then my mom came down sick!
So, time to get ahead again...
At least, if I don't get sick, I will finish the semester a week or two early!
don't jinx yourself ;)
23:19
How?
This probably belongs on code review if anywhere. — Isaiah 44 secs ago
@Hosch250 What's a weekend?
@SimonAndréForsberg A weekend is typically defined as Saturday and Sunday. Some people define it as the days in which they are not required to work.
@Hosch250 When you make predictions with conditions, you might jinx yourself. Murphys law and all
I don't believe in Murphy's law.
I do believe in Muphry's law, though.
So, I have learned to be extra careful when I correct people's spelling.
