Thanks for your answer. I do realize, that this question goes beyond just a code review, but rather into a software architecture concept. I have been playing with an idea of sewing-into every Step/Stage object some function, which on its instantiation would read the file version it came from, and encode it in some usable way. However, I am afraid that this solution would not be immune to problems with deployment on multiple servers, where file creation/edit dates would be updated with time of being copied from a GitLab repo. — Greem666 15 secs ago

If your code works and you're just want someone to review it and come with possible alternatives, please post it over at Code Review instead (make sure to read their guidelines what a post needs first though). If the code doesn't work, then you need to add a detailed explanation of what actually happens. — Magnus Eriksson 54 secs ago

@Guillaume This question would be off-topic on Code Review as the user is asking for debugging help. In the future please link to the help center and use wording that shows the post may be off-topic when recommending Code Review. Take, "This may be on-topic on Code Review. Please check if it is on-topic and how to post a good question before posting there." — Peilonrayz 43 secs ago

@CaptainObvious MRC - my comment to the poster This code doesn't seem to be ready for review because so much of it is commented out. To help optimize code we need to see more of the code and understand what it is doing, We don't know what kafkaMachinePartDataKeys or what values it contains, we don't know why this function is called. All of this makes the question off-topic due to lack of context.

I’m voting to close this question because this question should be on codereview.stackexchange.comLiam 56 secs ago

@pacmaninbw Thanks.

No problemo, still in mentoring mode.

I was thinking kafkaMachinePartData.KafkaMachinePartDataKeys's type could possibly be inferred having one and only one way that I can see to improve the code. But it seems C#'s interfaces use .Count not .Length, so yeah defo MRC for sure.

It's a way of saying "no more" like "I mean +2." I used it to emphasise the corresponding -3 isn't what I'm talking about.

i.e. when it was mentioned by Duga it had + 2 / -0 (perhaps initially)
now it is +1 / -3
somebody changed

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Wow, that's so recent. I thought you typoed because when I checked the negative score it was still at +2 :O

:)
Well I'm not the one that changed my vote, but I did add a down vote to compliment my VTC.

@Feeds @Peilonrayz Shouldn't that be closed as being not a site-specific issue? Seems like an MSE thing, don't think we get to decide per site.

@Mast No, this is a per site setting.

@Peilonrayz +1/-4
@Peilonrayz Oh.

@Feeds @Vogel612 Do moderators have access to a history of the default syntax highlighter? It would be nice to know what the tag's value was when 200 was moderator. This would allow us to compare the actual old with the new highlighter. For example CSS and HTML may look better with JS being the default.

@Peilonrayz no such thing, sorry

Darn ):

5:19 PM
@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ True, but what is this in reference to?

5:31 PM
Probably that some reviewers shouldn't be reviewing...

Ugh, I can't find any references to the old language highlighting. Searched meta, meta comments and this room D:

@Peilonrayz Do you need a reference highlighter?

I'm thinking that's a pun but my brain is currently 500. I'm pretty exhausted after reading all those comments.

@pacmaninbw one could posit that the person who reviewed that post in the First posts queue merely upvoted it without fully understanding what was in the post... then moved on...

ah yes
who are these upvoters?

"My question: Is stackoverflow the right place to ask for help for this kind of problem, and if not, where should the question be posted?" What is your question, precisely? Stack Overflow is for help solving problems. If you have a working solution and want help improving the code, Code Review is the place to go. — John Kugelman 51 secs ago

"Where should i implement the updated code? and should i use new variables or utilize the old ones." it sounds like you're asking about software design. If you have a working program that you want some critiques on, you may ask over in CodeReview.SE. — scohe001 9 secs ago
If your solution does work, take the CodeReview Tour and visit its Help Center to see if your question is on topic over there. — wwii 29 secs ago

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Sometimes I wonder if it aren't just a bunch of trolls that have less-than-successful experiences on the site.
But it could also be ignorance.
Or people legitimately not knowing any better.

sometimes when I see the word troll I picture in my mind little plastic dolls with long hair and round eyes

What else do you think they should look like? ;)

There was a Norsk film about trollhunters a couple years back.

@Peilonrayz If at some point you down voted or VTCed this question it has been improved to the point where it can be answered.

@pacmaninbw Thanks, retracted.

7:01 PM
@Mast I've got to give posters that make an effort some credit.

@pacmaninbw Thanks. :)

@pacmaninbw Posters that actually fix their question up are the kind we want to keep around, yes.

Yes
Especially 16 year olds.

Why especially those?

Think of the children!

7:04 PM
Because they will have a lot of time to help moderate questions if they get good.

@Mast Ignoring the "troll" classification, I have genuinely seen that. Pretty annoying.

@Mast I wouldn't doubt it, though I can't prove it.

@pacmaninbw That seems to be the theme of the year.

Please pardon my ignorance. What benefits could we get from proving it?

7:21 PM
@Peilonrayz In this particular case? Not much. I was speaking more broadly.

@Mast Ah thought you knew something I didn't :) Robots on the other hand...

Yup.
If only we could get non-communicative users to actually communicate. But that would be a miracle of biblical proportions.
I might be stuck in "let's-burn-the-world-down-mode" this evening.

@Mast I don't understand what you mean by a "non-communicative user". Is it just a user that there is no way to communicate with? No meta, comments, chat, etc.

Users refusing to be educated.

@Mast lol, aka Joker mode
Ah, ok yeah that makes sense

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ I'm assuming you didn't grab this from anywhere but wrote it yourself?

As long as you keep that in mind, it's fine I guess :-)
But it looks like you've seen that already.
Just, for future reference. Or something.

If your code works, I'd reformat this post to meet the guidelines for codereview.stackexchange.com and post it there. If there's no error or specific issues with your code, there's not really an appropriate answer that StackOverflow can provide, as since you said it's already working. Also, it's against the rules to post code externally, you have to include a minimal reproducible example in your post itself with no reliance on external resources. — Random Davis 16 secs ago
