This is opinion based and as such off-topic. Nevertheless my 2 cents: I strongly prefer x == 5 because readability is one of the most important properties of a code base. I will reject 5 == x or nullptr == a in a code review. Errors like if (x = 5) will be caught by compilers in the form of warnings and by unit testing — bolov 40 secs ago

@Aaron B. – thank you so much! That was very helpful. But here comes the 1 million dollar question: When performing a code review, I'd typically want to compare the latest commit (i.e. the Working Tree that I just checked out) with its base – to see exactly what my developer did. How do I do that? Pretty much what I do in Gitlab with "Compare latest version with master". I can easily select the Working Tree as my "Select for", but how do I find the branch base to be uses as "Compare with"? … It's not really "Master". — GerZah 29 secs ago
You can get only source work item if you get the code review you requested/created: SELECT [System.Id], [System.Title], [System.State], [System.Reason], [System.AssignedTo] FROM WorkItems WHERE [System.TeamProject] = @project AND [System.WorkItemType] IN GROUP 'Microsoft.CodeReviewRequestCategory' AND [Microsoft.VSTS.Common.StateCode] <> 1 AND [System.AssignedTo] = @me ORDER BY [System.CreatedDate] desc. But if you get code reviews that you are a reviewer, you have to get the target work items, as the code reviews you need is in target. — Cece Dong - MSFT 5 secs ago

9:30 AM
@Aaron B. – thank you so much! That was very helpful. Chiming in: I'd often like to perform a code review – to see exactly what my programmer did … just like in Gitlab with "Compare latest with master". To do so, I'd do the following: 1. Checkout that branch. 2. Merge master into that branch – no need to commit / push. 3. On the "Compare Commits" pane, click the "Compare <branch, …>…" item: 4. 1st select "Working Tree". 5. 2nd select "Master". This way you will see everything that was changed in that branch, compared to a "quasi master re-base". — GerZah 45 secs ago

That took longer than expected. Let's see...
Considering the hostility of the user, I must admit I don't feel particularly motivated to argue the case while 2 moderators have already said their part.

@Mast I know it will likely be a big ask. But could you do it for me and ignore the user?
I want to see your insight

Sure.
Let's start with this:
We see so many off-topic questions per day that we sometimes neglect the comments a bit. I'll definitely admit to that. I'm absolutely sure there were left comments on your original question though. However, since comments are not forever (that's how they work on all Stack Exchange sites), it's quite hard for me to determine at this point if anything went wrong in the communication there. — Mast 24 secs ago
This is one of the questions I'm sure there was a comment on. Whether it was a good one, I don't know. It was probably not mine either. But it was a somewhat decent, probably somewhat standard comment.
Also keep in mind it's rev10 that's reopened while rev1 was closed.

7:38 PM
@Mast I believe the comment was partially quoted it in @Vogel612's answers.
@Mast It however was not this - the phrasing was hard to understand and not standard. The user that posted it I believe is sub 5k
I'd like to post the comment but I don't recall it nor did I write it down

Yes, only moderators can see it now, I think.
And SE keeps hiding the good stuff with all their UI improvements, ugh.
The 1st revision has a couple of problems. There is no explanation of what the code is supposed to do, it needed a better title (unfortunately there was probably no comment indicating that) and all we have is a description telling us there's requests involved and probably some sort of filtering of POST data. Which could mean either data to be send or data that's received.
In hindsight, it's probably more UWYA than MRC.
I'm not 100% convinced they're the author of the script too, but that's irrelevant at this point.
It was not a quality question, still isn't, but it deserved a better explanation of what was wrong with it at that point.
I'm absolutely sure the 1st revision is not the code as used in the actual project, another red flag.
Sometimes, when I see too much wrong with a question, I simply close the question and expect never to hear from it again. That is after all how it goes too often. Is that right? No.
Please note that I did not encounter this in the review queues, but on passing. There were actual reviewers that didn't do their job here.
One of them is a known robo-reviewer, I do not remember who wrote the comment.
Honestly, I'm torn between feeling ashamed for not communicating further and relieved that I didn't.
@MathieuGuindon change the Label Status to HOLD if you are a programer you know that close status is referenced to document End of Life... — walter nunez 2 mins ago
There's only so much you can do to counter assumptions.

7:59 PM
@Mast I think we both know the terrors of UWYA and MRC :)

Oh yes, both aren't descriptive enough and hell for new users.

@Mast I understand this. At some point you just cut corners or you stop moderating everything.

I don't mind polishing a diamond in the rough, sweeping the crap from an otherwise perfectly good post.
Not all posts qualify for that. So, yes.

I believe greybeard wrote the comment, like they're 3.3k so they're bound to make mistakes. It's just unfortunate that it blew up in this way. This isn't what I'd desire my intro to CR as a close voter to be

He's actually been doing this for a while and his comments aren't bad.
And no, you can't trace removed comments in the activity log.
Anyway, I'm open to suggestions if there's anything in particular that I should've done better.
Live and learn.

8:08 PM
Oh wow that's a lot of reviews they've done :O
@Mast I'm torn in situations like this. I don't like 'duplicating' comments as it feels like ganging up. And I see some bad comments at times - missing problems with titles or other ways the question can be closed. I'm never sure if I should leave a comment or not.

@Peilonrayz TBH if in doubt, adding a canned comment seems like the better option
if the existing comment isn't helpful enough that's worse than adding another comment explaining things a bit more

I'm sure this'll come back to bite me in the near future. (it always happens like that) But at least I know I'm not being silly by doing it

@Peilonrayz Just because someone doesn't have a lot of rep, doesn't mean they don't review :-)

@Mast I swear every time I assume something, I'm shut down hard. There's just some things I shouldn't cut corners in ;)

There's a separate side dedicated to Code Review. Unless there's a more specific programming question, it's not really appropriate for Stack Overflow. "Doe this look fine"? really isn't a precise question. At the very least include data to run the code otherwise we have to run it in our head and that's even slower than what R can do. — MrFlick 39 secs ago

@Bill_Steward While this could be on-topic on CR if the code is embedded in it, in the future, please don't use the existence of the Code Review site as a reason to close a question. Evaluate the request and use a reason like needs focus, primarily opinion-based, etc. Then you can mention to the OP that it can be posted on Code Review if it is on-topic.
