Q: Hailstone Sequence in NASM

CarcigenicateFor practice, I wrote some NASM code that prints out the hailstone sequence of a (unfortunately, hardcoded) number. This is by far the most complex code I've ever written in NASM. I'd like advice on anything, but specifically: I'm trying to abide by CDECL. Am I doing anything off? The multiplica...

@CaptainObvious Hmm OP writes:
> I wish to know if there's other way to assign such value (as a keyword as in the case of nullptr instead of NULL) or if what I'm doing is OK.
Yet Martin commented (after other discussion in comments):
It's OK to ask "Does this code follow common best practices?", but not "What is the best practice regarding X?"Martin York 4 hours ago
so is "I wish to know if there's other way to assign such value" a form of "What is the best practice regarding X?"?

maybe to some it could be perceived that way...

Questions about suggestions to improve already-working code are generally a better fit for our sister site Code Review. Stack Overflow only permits questions about code that has a specific problem, and has been reduced to the shortest possible minimal reproducible example that lets someone else reproduce that problem. — Charles Duffy 1 min ago

If you're looking for code review, you should post to Code Review instead — ForceBru 36 secs ago

@Mast I'm reading through the question and all I can do is 🤦 Some of the logic I've never encountered before @property vs threading in new. I disagree with MRC there is enough code and problems for at least two questions with two / three answers each (not long ones, the new standard length). The objective isn't unclear - it's making an image from code (as previewed). And usage doesn't really matter it's the code that matters. And there's enough IMHO.
Like if you really want I could find out usage, but at that point I'd have written an entire review for a (soon to be?) off-topic question. And I don't particularly want to waste my time like that.
@Mast "user hasn't logged in since May" this should have no baring on topicality of a question.

@TedLyngmo I suppose Code Review has the same rules as us and they won't review external code (but I'm not active there, so I don't know) — Yksisarvinen 38 secs ago
@Yksisarvinen Yes, that's probably true. Demonic-Coder: When you ask this on the codereview-site, include your code in the question. Don't link to it. — Ted Lyngmo 27 secs ago

@Peilonrayz I think you misunderstood what I was trying to convey with that.
@Peilonrayz If it's reviewable, it's reviewable. But if you're the only one that can figure out how it's used, it will remain a zombie forever. If you have to write a review just to figure out how it's used, does it really have all context that's required?

@Mast Possibly yes.

Q: Better way for nested if?

atlineLooks next nested if a little structure redundancy? Any better way for next nested if? # !/usr/bin/python3 num = int(input("enter number")) if num%2 == 0: if num%3 == 0: print ("Divisible by 3 and 2") else: print ("divisible by 2 not divisible by 3") else: if num%3 == 0: ...

@Mast "if you're the only one that can figure out how it's used" I think this statement is false, should I expand on why? "If you have to write a review just to figure out how it's used, does it really have all context that's required?" I really don't understand why usage matters at all. If there is enough context to be able to say with 100% certanty lots of problems with the code how can it be missing context?

I think this question doesn’t meet Stack Overflow guidelines. For example it should focus on one problem only. Such questions are more related to Code Review than Stack Overflow. — rahnema1 20 secs ago
@stovfl when suggesting users post on CR it would be great if there was also a suggestion like "Please read the relevant help center pages like 'What topics can I ask about here?' and 'How do I ask a good question?". In the current form the title would need to be updated to describe what the code does instead of the OPs goals for change. — Sᴀᴍ Onᴇᴌᴀ 45 secs ago

You may read some meta thread about differences between Stack Overflow and Code Review. — rahnema1 39 secs ago
You asked any help or suggestion to improve the calculations speed. A user may provide an answer about math tricks . One may provide about vectorization . Other answer may about the first loop. Some other answers may be about improving the second or third loop. All the answers will be valid. But what is the correct answer? So you asked for review and Code Review may better fit what you want. — rahnema1 56 secs ago

@user9492428 "doesn't look performance friendly" is subjective. Have yo measured its performance? While Streams may be slightly less performant than handcrafted micro-optimized code, youo would find it difficult to measure the different, much less notice it. At this point, it looks like codereview.stackexchange.com would be a better place to ask this kind of question. — Bohemian ♦ 5 secs ago
