Anyone here know if, in YAML, you can have an associative array as the key to an associative array? {{1, 2}: 3} I know you can do {[1, 2]: 3}.

printf is only used during output, so how can it affect your calculation performance? It doesn't increase memory usage by any significant measure either, as it doesn't create any array. Your multiply procedure is bad for performance. Use something that's more cache friendly like divide and conquer. You should compile your code with optimization. And if the code works then this should be on Code Reviewphuclv 58 secs ago

Q: Return the number of unique ways you can climb the staircase

Maclean PintoThere exists a staircase with N steps, and you can climb up either 1 or 2 steps at a time. Given N, write a function that returns the number of unique ways you can climb the staircase. have you checked what is found in $newData? because I think that's probably the reason. I'm not sure what the @Rest/Put Annotation does. If it doesn't contribute to this, then you're probably on the wrong track: apparently "PUT" data isn't read into the Request as expected, but instead must be parsed by yourself, see: stackoverflow.com/questions/36858279/… and codereviewvideos.com/course/… (the second is for json though). — Jakumi 25 secs ago

Q: I don't want to store passwords, can I use them as an encryption key for another field?

Der KommissarI'm not a 'cryptographic' anything, so if this is a super-dumb question please let me know (politely). So here's the deal, say I don't want to store passwords because that opens me up to all sorts of failures (see: Facebook). Instead, I want to use the passwords as a key for something else. L...

Also, if anybody has thoughts, I could use some other brainpower on ^^^^^

@DerKommissar not a member over there, but it seems the process you sketch there has an issue...
how will identification work?

What do you mean 'identification'?

username, basically

Email?

if you use the password to encrypt the username, how do you know which user is trying to log in?

12:53 PM
Nononononono
The password encrypts the 2FA part
Those are two different things
You might use an email, but that's not tied to your username

:bulb:

So think: [Email] NVARCHAR(512), [MFA] VARBINARY(1024) or whatever.
Does that make sense?
And MFA is an encrypted discriminated union: Phone of string | Email of string.

1:51 PM
@DerKommissar By not wanting to use hashing, you open yourself up to a whole set of different failures. Why not take the easy road, and just hash them properly? :)

Purpose was to avoid storing things.
But hey, everyone ignores that and just says "hash them"
Which is why I don't ask questions.
"Is this acceptable? Yes/No"

Might be acceptable, not enough of an expert to really say... but going into uncharted territory makes it easier to make mistakes is all I'm saying

The answer says it's not going to work, and it makes sense why now that they explain it

Your question is too broad. You might do better using StackExchange: CodeReview — ControlAltDel 46 secs ago

My idea was, with all the recent password-breaches, I am wondering if there's a way to not even store the password, or any form of the password. Use it as a key to secure something else, but the answer says that wouldn't work, and the reasoning why that wouldn't work makes sense now.

1:57 PM
Didn't see the answer yet, interesting question though

I'm using BCrypt to encrypt passwords in my prototype to replace our systems at work.

@Ludisposed In theory the idea is sound: password -> PBKDF2 -> Encryption Key -> AES-256 some text, but the answer notes that the text we're encrypting isn't random, so it's vulnerable to attack, and that an HMAC would be a better suit there.
I wonder if things change if we include a random "salt" in the text, though.

Shouldn't help that much, since AES is a block cipher, IIRC

But I'm not a crypto-anything either.
A transaction authentication number (TAN) is used by some online banking services as a form of single use one-time passwords (OTPs) to authorize financial transactions. TANs are a second layer of security above and beyond the traditional single-password authentication. TANs provide additional security because they act as a form of two-factor authentication (2FA). Should the physical document or token containing the TANs be stolen, it will be of little use without the password; conversely, if the login data are obtained, no transactions can be performed without a valid TAN. == Classic TAN == An...

Bit of background: I originally wrote this to use a reference-counted vector class template from another library as the underlying container. Teuchos::ArrayRCP, from Sandia National Laboratories' Trilinos library, if you're interested. It worked just fine. Then, in code review, other members of my team suggested it ought to be templatized on the underlying container template, because we might someday want to use a different underlying container.
