God damn, I love unit tests
Finding issues because of them is super useful

2:38 PM
Second issue to do with type coercion of javascript in one day, jeez

Sometimes it looks like half the issues with (vanilla) JavaScript are due to type coercion.

This is actually only really an issue because of TypeScript as well, because TypeScript is giving me false confidence that these things are correct
-function listToObject<T extends HasID<Id>, Id extends string | number = ID>(
-  list: T[]
-): { [id: string]: T } | { [id: string]: T } {
-  return list.reduce(
-    (map, elem) => Object.assign(map, { [elem.id]: elem }),
-    {}
-  );
-}
Though, this was the function that was removed
Technically the types are correct and it's the logic that is wrong
I just replaced it with this:
export function listToMap<T extends HasID<Id>, Id extends string | number = ID>(
  list: T[]
): Immutable.Map<Id, T> {
  return list.reduce(
    (acc, element) => acc.set(element.id, element),
    Immutable.Map<Id, T>()
  );
}
Which is correct (since Map.set does not coerce keys)

@Vogel612 Talking about room owners, Kaz is still in the list. Might want to find a replacement for him.

But, yeah, you can even see this in action in arrays. [1, 2, 3]["0"] === [1, 2, 3][0]

@DanPantry lol
Yes, you'd think TypeScript solves exactly this kind of problems.

2:44 PM
it's because arrays are just special-cased objects, and object keys must be strings
Not that I agree with it, but this problem would not exist if I/we stopped using objects as maps (because they are basically records, not maps)

@Zeta I was able to match the tune in my head....not going to sing out loud right now....

@Zeta People tried. It's awful.

@Mast Remember the USB-C discussion? ;)
“The docking station you have connected is not compatible with the current port [because it’s not ‘Thunderbolt’].” Seriously screw USB-C. What the hell. Who came up with this.
@SwiftOnSecurity It's worse. There are an infinite number of port types, because use of SuperSpeed lanes in "alternate protocol" mode isn't defined. The cable just needs to have ROM with a value declaring what runs on those lanes :-| So USB-C to USB-C cables aren't universal at all :-/

lol

@Mast Oh god, apparently that was the best variant. These are all awful.

@Zeta Yup. I can imagine Mario doing a cover of "Let my princess go" (" Let my people go", from Prince of Egypt) though.

4:17 PM
Must have been years since I've seen PoE (and heard "The Plagues")

@unixronin @SwiftOnSecurity Yes. USB-C doesn't work without a ROM in the cable declaring capabilities, for example how much power can you send through it, whether it is USB3 or USB2+DP, or USB2+HDMI, USB2+TB3, etc.
It's 2018 and everything sucks.

Although I only saw it in German. Hm.

And finally:
@Sikthehedgehog @unixronin @SwiftOnSecurity BTW, fun trick with a macbook if you ever need to fool it into believing it's connected to power. Take the charging cable and plug it into two different ports on the MBP

@202_accepted The Nintendo Switch doesn't acknowledge the PD protocol of USB-C. That can lead to broken docks or a broken Switch.
Funny enough, that only started with Firmware 5.0 (so, recently). I'll search for a link.

4:22 PM
Wow, that's awful.
Did they try to kill the spec on purpose?

Have you tried google? Here is the first link it returns: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/177870/… (c#) — PmanAce 28 secs ago

@Duga Code Review for world domination!

@Mast Was that a comment on 202's tweet, or on the Nintendo Switch problem?

@Zeta On the entire mess of USB-C.

There were at least two instances where coworkers tried to load their smartphones with their laptops and ended up with empty phones, because the PD negotiations thought that the smart phones are nice battery packs for the notebooks.

4:27 PM
@Mast Dude USB-C is such a cluster-#@$%
@SwiftOnSecurity Here’s my favorite bit of the relevant Apple support article:
"Check the end that plugs into your Mac" because we couldn't make Male/Female like normal or anything.
@SwiftOnSecurity Every USB-C Mac has Thunderbolt 3 except for the ultra-thin MacBook model
WE'RE SO GOOD AT TECHNOLOGY EVERYONE COME LOOK AT US

@202_accepted Told you I didn't like it.

Incoming no code question.

4:43 PM
@Zeta Already closed.

@Mast It gets worse and worse the more I read.

@Mast man, those new mods don't let you guys have any fun.... ;)

Q: writing and reading from a text file into an array c++

Tayfun HamaratI am basically trying to create a bank management system where I want to write a new class object data into a text file by using a pointer which will help me to know where the first data at. I want to read the lines of the text file before I write the new data in and have a counter which reads al...

@Malachi I'll get my revenge, don't worry :-)

That answer (together with an edited version of your question) would be a good fit for codereview.se — DavidPostill 37 secs ago

possible answer invalidation by Ludisposed on question by Ludisposed: codereview.stackexchange.com/posts/191225/revisions

@Duga Wat.
Doesn't appear to invalidate, but it's odd nevertheless.

Hi everyone. I have a question. When @Duga posts a quote from elsewhere on stackexchange (usually someone recommending codereview for their question) how do you follow back to the comments origin?

Look, a bird with a diamond! Must be a magpie.

@bruglesco all timestamps on SE are permalinks :)

4:55 PM
@bruglesco the time since the post is a link to the comment

@bruglesco Click the link.

so you click the "37 seconds ago" part

Click.

Ahh. Ive been clicking the username
Thank you

@MathieuGuindon I didn't recognize your picture and almost said "Yeah that's what you should be doing."

4:57 PM
:)

@bruglesco Common mistake, don't worry :-)

@bruglesco The cool thing is @Duga posts comments just like a normal person, if your message is only the comment link, then the format will be the same as the @Duga format. :)
@MathieuGuindon I seriously thought you were new in here for a moment. I completely missed the name and italics.

@202_accepted He replaced his mug with his mug.

I should have messed with y'all and changed my avatar & name again exactly when I lost the diamond mwahaha

You'd still be italic. ;)

5:00 PM
who is flagging all those comments, @MathieuGuindon is it you?

@Malachi nope

No, that's me.

I like the comment about the RavioliCode

oh snap......let me fix that..... lol jk

@Peilonrayz Requesting a second set of eyes. The code of this question doesn't appear to do anything useful. Opinion?

@Mast I guess that the magic is hidden in scrapy.Spider.

Well, it does output data, but that only appear to be odd statistics.

Took over 2 hours to run, bloody thing.

Anyway, there's a +50 bounty on that Python crawler question. So if anyone sees anything, go for it.

First of all, see this post: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/69950/… regarding your creating a new HttpClient all the time. Second, you could abstract the HttpClient work into an interface, then inject that interface into the controller, that way you'd be able to mock it up for testing. — saarrrr 27 secs ago
what about this excellent thread for a start? — dlatikay 47 secs ago

@Brian Well it's just a lot of advice from mostly one person..! If I did a follow-up, he'd probably be nitpicking his own code ;) — oldmud0 Dec 21 '15 at 14:59
