4:00 PM
I guess because it's under a different domain

sub-domain

Maybe we can materialize her like on Code Lyoko.

One day @SimonAndréForsberg will log on as @Duga and the SE server will blow up with an OverflowException trying to compute the notifications count to be displayed in the top bar...
I wonder if they thought an Int32 was large enough...

@Mat'sMug They'll make it an Int64 just for her. Lol

@Jamal I doubt Simon made her a real AI. He wouldn't let an AI run loose on SE.

4:03 PM
Unless SE is X.A.N.A.

What if Duga is X.A.N.A.?

@Mast different server actually. You get these badges for login on to the main site, and another one for the meta site.

And we are all the children fighting it?

@Mat'sMug meta is a sub sub domain

@EBrown Duga's not a computer, though.

4:04 PM
@Jamal But true AI's don't act like Computers, they act like people!
THE AI IS A LIE!

@EBrown Unless being a computer is considered more intelligent than being a human. In which case it won't.

@Mast It's not the intelligence that matters, it's the personality and how it responds to external (and internal) stimuli.

Does intelligence need personality?

Well, that depends. Are we qualifying it as an intelligence in general, or as an Artificial Human Intelligence?

AI, not AHI

4:10 PM
Then I suppose it wouldn't necessarily.

Q: User Password Encryption in C#

hydeI am maintaining an old codebase of one of our legacy .Net applications which has a component that encrypts and decrypts user passwords using symmetric key cryptography. Since cryptography is not my domain, I need help figuring out whether this existing code needs to be fixed or not. I have a hun...

Q: Take These Buttons Back

bazolaI created a side bar of buttons for my game, the idea being that if you click on the "main" button of the group, the rest of the buttons in the group would pop out from the side of the screen. Later, I wanted to make it so that if you open one of the side menus the other ones would close. I tho...

I could of course have @Duga login on the main site as well, but that would require some more code, and if I'm coding anything, it has to be a little bit more useful than that

@SimonAndréForsberg Perhaps you should have @Duga be capable of spotting questions that need Jamalized, and comment on them?
Maybe even find a way to ping him?

@EBrown Then you might aswell ping him on every new question

Perhaps @Duga should be trained in the ways of Jamal, then?

4:19 PM
@CaptainObvious The name of the namespace indicates AES, but it's using MD5.

@EBrown I prefer @Duga to only observer, and let the humans take action.

@SimonAndréForsberg :( That's not as fun though. We need a rogue SE AI.

We could add smokedetector to our chat, but we don't have enough questions/day for that IMHO.

Your last sentence does not sufficiently clarify the expected output. Anyway, we're getting into code-review territory here (since you already have an answer to your question), but I might update my answer anyways. I'd have no objection if you wanted to delete your question. You know about codereview.stackexchange.com , right? — Frank 18 secs ago

@Mast Yeah, once we graduate with the new design, maybe

4:22 PM
@Mast I think that might only be for generating the key or something

There are quite a couple of other C# AES questions on CR already.

@Mast @EBrown Detecting what is a good and what is a bad question is quite tricky business. There is a filter that is used to detect what comments should go to the Programmers.SE chat or not, which I have had to rework many many times.
I believe there are so many grey areas of Code Review that it's just not worth it to create a bot that detects what is a good and what is a bad question, and that functionality would probably not work very well at all times which makes it a quite bad idea to make it automatically post a comment.

@SimonAndréForsberg Indeed, there's a lot of interesting ways CodeReview could be interpreted.

The biggest strength about humans is that they are not bots.

You have no evidence of such things. ;)
I could be a robot.

4:27 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg Oh yes, never make it auto-post things.
SmokeDetector only posts things to chat, not to sites.

José Valdez OgandoI'm working on projecteuler.net problems, and I made this for problem #3: array = []; // use this to save the prime factors function factor(number, start){ //begin of the function prime=true; for(i = start; i < number+1; i++){ //begin of the first loop if(number % i == 0){ //is it a divi...

@qujck This question isn't really a good fit for CodeReview.SE as it is asking for a fix to an existing functional deficit. Once the issue has been fixed, then the OP can move the code (which works as intended) over to CR for review. — EBrown 38 secs ago
@qujck No, this does not belong on Code Review. Please read Be careful when recommending Code Review to askersSimon André Forsberg 38 secs ago

@SimonAndréForsberg I beat you to it. Lol

so you did

There needs to be a template we can use when there are improper recommendations.

4:54 PM
How long have you been in this chat btw? I don't remember seeing you before sometime this week

Since yesterday. Lol

Q: AutoReviewComments - Pro-forma comments for SE

Benjol No more re-typing the same comments over and over! This script adds a little 'auto' link next to all comments boxes. When you click the link, you see a popup with 6 configurable auto-comments (canned responses), which you can easily click to insert. This script was inspired by answers to thi...

That explains it then

Explains what?

why I haven't seen you before

Ah, yeah. I'm a newbie.

4:55 PM
election begins in 3 hours

I'll be voting as soon as it's up.

@EBrown me too! I hope many will! :-)

@Mat'sMug I'll bet they will - we're so close to graduating that they must.

5:21 PM
Just make sure you think well before voting.
Keep in mind the voting system is STV.
You don't get multiple votes, you get one vote.
Which is transferred to the next in line the moment your first pick has enough.

Don't worry, all the candidates (not counting myself) will do fine.

Ethan and Quill won't make the cut if I understand correctly.

Nope.

Thanks for running anyway guys.

correct ^^

5:28 PM
Without you, we wouldn't have had primaries.

Indeed.

Quick, go get Janos to 200.

@Hosch250 You realize everyone in this room probably already voted?

Yeah.
Just in case someone didn't.

I'm still thinking about the order in which I'll vote...

5:31 PM
I have it settled, but I'm not saying who.

Voting is anonymous.
As usual.

I'm voting for everyone.

@EBrown You can't.

@Hosch250 I'll find a way. Even if I have to ghost.

Q: One Time Secret Message Application Using PHP-Encryption Library

hursey013About Me: I am a frontend developer, so my background is primarily in HTML/CSS and some jQuery. 5:42 PM
@EBrown You'll need sockpuppets with at least 150 reputation.
Don't though, bad idea.

@Mast Or I just vote for each person, and then retract it and vote for another.

That's not how it works.

You can retract votes, no?

Yeah, but they don't count as a vote then.

Then it does not mean I did not vote for the person.
Merely that I voted for them and subsequently retracted it.

5:44 PM
This logic is beyond me.

Therefore, my I'm voting for everyone statement is completely valid.

Reading the results, it doesn't look like that.
I was talking about the final, submitted vote.

You should have been more specific.,
:)

I have an idea for a new email system.
Ever send an email, then solved the problem, or realized you sent it to the wrong person?
My system will let you "unsend" it and remove it from their inbox as long as it isn't marked as read.

how does support this, but not actual FK's?

5:48 PM
@Hosch250 and how are you planning that to work?

 `method` enum('stripe','paypal','authorize') NOT NULL,
 `type` enum('deposit','total','remaining') NOT NULL,

@Mat'sMug The answer lies in the tag.

yeah, I know, ..but I want enum columns on SQL Server!

If everything is working, why not post to Code Review? — DangerZone 24 secs ago

Be aware though what mySQL does when it encounters bad information for an enum field. @200_success shared a link sometime that mentioned several bad parts about MySQL and enums.

5:49 PM
although...

@SimonAndréForsberg When the user clicks the button, it will send a signal to the server, and the server will remove the email.

57
A: SQL Server equivalent to MySQL enum data type?

chaosIt doesn't. There's a vague equivalent: mycol VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL CHECK (mycol IN('Useful', 'Useless', 'Unknown'))

And that will make the inbox update.
Finally having lunch.
BBL.

@SimonAndréForsberg I bet SQL Server CHECK constraints are much more robust then

@Hosch250 AFAIK, SMTP doesn't work that way.

5:52 PM
@Hosch250 That would require the server holding the recipients message to be aware of your signal.

simple. just write a new mail protocol.

@Mat'sMug And then convince the sender and receiver to switch to it? Good luck. If it were that easy I would propose a new protocol to replace HTTP and it's archaic ideals.

@EBrown s/"simple"/"simple </sarcasm>"

@Mat'sMug I had hoped that was a joke. Lol

Thanks, I will try Code Review. — Joe 42 secs ago

6:01 PM
Well, the thing is, it would work only if both the sender and receiver used my system.

Indeed, which is the underlying problem.

The only issue, then is getting users.

Wide adoption would likely not happen.

But, if I became popular enough, or convinced Outlook/Gmail to do this, then the rest would probably follow - except the ones you shouldn't be using anyway.

The problem is always getting traction.

6:03 PM
uh-huh

I got some few thousand users on my app over a year.
Email is a bit different, though.

Email itself is a joke.

I thought gmail already had unsend

What you should do, which I would actually support quite well, is create a new standard for Email that isn't crap.

Lunch is really ready now, so BBL.

Is there such a thing as Javadoc for JavaScript?

Probably, I can't imagine why not.

sounds like another node for the flowchart: cube-drone.com/comics/c/relentless-persistence

You should join the JavaScript Room.
@DanLyons Great flowchart.

Hmmm, JSDoc works similar enough. I'll have to try it next time I switch OS.

Back.

@EthanBierlein There's still a lot of inefficient stuff going on in there.

6:23 PM
@Mast I'm sure there is, but GUI really isn't one of my strong suits.

Neither is mine, but I see a lot of repetition.

@DanLyons I found my favourite comic from that site: cube-drone.com/comics/c/sartorial
I take that back, that was a premature firing.
There are more, funnier ones.

@EBrown I think we all agree that is confusing.

Q: What's your favorite "programmer" cartoon?

Dan WilliamsPersonally I like this one: P.S. Do not hotlink the cartoon without the site's permission please.

^^ if you have an afternoon to waste ;-)

@Mast I liked the "Maximum Fanciness Levels Achieved" bit.

6:33 PM
@Mat'sMug I've seen them, a couple of my favourites are on there.

Something tells me it's Friday in The 2nd Monitor

we're 200 badges short!

they'll come in the coming 4 days

it'd look almost suspicious
I hope we get as many even more [badge:constituent] badges awarded

6:40 PM
Caucus badges: 31337
ELEET.
Actually, 31173 looks more like ELITE.

Talking in 1337?

1337 -> leet

Ugh, I just found out I may need to un-recursive my function.
@EthanBierlein @Donald.McLean linked it hours ago.

@EthanBierlein I'm getting sick of that, and I've never even watched it.

@Mast No, I linked the GOOD Friday video, not that stupid pop crap sung by some clueless chick with a voice like a cheese grater.

@Donald.McLean Oh, right, of-course.
I'm sorry for blaming such ludicrous actions on you.

@EthanBierlein Perfect timing.
@Donald.McLean What good Friday video?

6:46 PM
Not that I dislike pop, just that song.

Killpop?

Because there's cool POP songs
Michael Jackson

That's a Slipknot reference, by the way.

Hum..............

I don't care for pop.
But, I won't rain on your parade.

@Donald.McLean Ah yes, great song.

Never heard that one

cube-drone.com/comics/c/html7 I'm all about the Zalgo.

@EBrown now I have wait and bleed playing in my head.

I have Good Lovin' by The Young Rascals in mine.

6:56 PM
Isn't Zalgo some Ctulhu-like reference? I've never found the original story, only references to creepy-pasta and messed up text.

Z͖̼̼͍̟̙̣ͫ͂̑̈́ͦ̚̚a̳̪̞̝͚͇ͬ̌ͥ͂̈́l̞͐̏g͙̮̭̯̞̟͓ͣ́̇ͥoͥ̈́ͨ͗̐ͯ̒
Zalgo is basically just Unicode Abuse.

I know what it looks like, just can't find the original story behind the name.
