@Keon It's different from case to case, sometimes recursion can be good, sometimes it can be bad. I'd recommend getting some practice with both, and getting a feel for it. And if you ever find yourself wondering: "OK, this code works now, but is it readable? Is it clean? Is it good code?", that is what Code Review is for. — Simon André Forsberg 47 secs ago

Q: Having trouble implementing/understanding backpropagation algorithm

Mehdi SaffarI have a simple feedforward neural network with 2 input neurons (and 1 bias neuron), 4 hidden neurons (and 1 bias neuron), and one output neuron. @HoboSapiens Code Review is a full-fledged, standalone Stack Exchange site with its own rules, not a mere section of Stack Overflow. That said.. indeed, when you have working code that you want to improve, CR's the place to go. — Mat's Mug 13 secs ago
I've flagged for moderator attention mentioning this question would be a good candidate for migration to Code Review. Closing as off-topic isn't helping anyone. — Mat's Mug 17 secs ago

2:15 AM
@Mat'sMug you remember that VB6 code that I need to alter?
I am trying to compile it

which code?

Installed vb6 and everything seems okay.
but there is a problem
@Mat'sMug We have this old software which is written million years ago
and now that Program files (x86) is introduced in 64 bit versions I need to go and change the hardcoded path :(
trying to compile it give me this error "Line 105: Class MSComctLib.ImageList of control ImgListIcon was not a loaded control class."
and I can't find out what the hell this means even :D
vb6 put's this line in a log file in it's directory

check project references
look for "Microsoft Common Controls"
there should be a bunch
and presumably one would say "(missing)"

I can't seem to find Microsoft Common in the references list
There are so many Microsofts though but no Common afterward

This could've been a great answer if it was in CodeReview — Braim 15 secs ago

2:21 AM
Do I look for the exact wording of it or all these microsoft references count as Microsoft Common Controls ?
@Mat'sMug There are some such as Microsoft Internet Controls or Microsoft Movie Controls and all

you're looking for MSComctLib
the one that has an ImageList control
ah, not in project references...
right-click the toolbar and select "Components..."
for the record I get an error about registration error for the control library here
> Object library not registered
IIRC the ImageList is in the Microsoft Windows Common Controls 6.0 (SP6) OCX
you need to figure out how to correctly register that OCX on your system.
remember the compatibility warnings when you installed VS 6.0? that's what it was about.

@Mat'sMug Oh okay... let me check it there
found it in there.
Not sure it was there or it just got added when I tried to add the MSCOMCTL.OCX to the project
and it's ticked

try recompiling

Sheeeeeet.... it compiled :D

apparently your install went better than mine ;)

2:34 AM
I honestly have no idea
I am lost in the woods
Why the hell error lists go to the log file :D

no clue

Is there a try catch in VB6?

lol
nope

Then I can kinda tell if you can't find Program files go look for Program files (x86)
Nope?
:O
Man what is this?
VB6 should be illegal
2

there's error handling... just not with try/catch
and there's no stack trace

2:36 AM
thanks again Mat
I don't promise I won't be back again :D

@CoreyOgburn if it were actual code from a real project, perhaps. As it stands it's hypothetical/example code, which is explicitly off-topic on Code Review. Q: How can be reviewing made more efficient?

maaartinusAs suggested by 200_success in a comment to this answer of mine, I'm asking this question. For me, missing tools are the biggest problem of this site. Of the regular contributors here what do you think the general breakdown of languages that people answer on?

what do you mean?
gets answered, as well. , and get answered too
and ...well, pretty much every language tag out there...
something tells me I'm misunderstanding the question :)

I'll try to be a bit more specific. Each person can write reviews for a few different languages, me for example would be {python, c++} whereas someone else might be {java, c#} for example. Of the people who regularly post here in the 2nd monitor chat what are the most common languages that are answered?

and I'm certainly missing some.. but that would be the most common ones I guess
oh and

ok interesting

damn, VBA's With statement is making my life very, very hard right now.
ok nevermind, With statements resolve correctly.
Public Sub Foo()

    End With
End Sub
but the 2nd DoSomething belongs to type Class2 and doesn't resolve correctly.

oooh nice. it works!!

@Mat'sMug do we have a Debug and Release sort of arrangement in VB6 for creating executables?

uh, no
lol
VB6 != .net

@Mat'sMug Am I suppose to like VB6 as much as I like .NET? :P

is your next question about multithreaded VB6? ;-)

I was more leaning towards Generics but that wouldn't be bad either :(
@Mat'sMug one last question. How to make an executable :D

4:34 AM
@Mehrad haha

There are couple of them there, but not sure if they are leftovers of the past

File > Make

I did. Should I expect the file in the main directory or is it going to tell me in a log file the path which it exists :P
and seriously man. WHo would put Make in the FILE.
I would never look in there

IKR ;)

4:50 AM
OMG. I just passed away from remembering some really old memories :D
Apparently VB6 has it's own installer package maker :D
of course ending with Wizard :P
and in this wizard when you get to finalize the installation package details it asks you if you want it in a single cab file or Multiple cabs of a size 1.44 MB
isn't this amazing @Mat'sMug

i can post another code review. since it's working code

@Mast Hmmm..... like
The X-planes are a series of experimental United States airplanes and helicopters (and some rockets) used to test and evaluate new technologies and aerodynamic concepts. Most of the X-planes have been operated by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) or, later, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), often in conjunction with the United States Air Force. The majority of X-plane testing has occurred at Edwards Air Force Base. Some of the X-planes have been well publicized, while others, such as the X-16, have been developed in secrecy. The first, the Bell X-1,...

@rolfl Hi, I'm Mast, who are you?

@Mast Morwenn is the resident expert on alternative music and is endowed with the responsibility of educating all reviewers on the nuances of such, and has had that responsibility for years.

"Wormhole X-Treme!" is an episode from Season 5 of the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1. The title also refers to a camp fictional science fiction series named Wormhole X-Treme!, a show-within-a-show that is portrayed in the episode. This was the 100th episode of Stargate SG-1, and as such was produced as a "special" episode laden with large numbers of in-jokes, cameo appearances, and heavy use of metafictional elements for comedic effect. == Plot == This episode is a continuation of the Season 4 episode "Point of No Return". A spaceship that had been hidden in the outer solar system...

Why didn't mine one-box...

@rolfl I love how you put it :D

@rolfl We should award him some title.

@Mast The challenge is to come up with one.... his experience is unique

@rolfl So make the title unique.
Something with an X is always good.
Alternative Xtravagant

No title required.
I would have said that I was polluting the chat with musics commonly accepted as strange that nobody cares about.

Something like a "Wind Instrument Performer in Bands of Celtic Metal Extremes", or WIPiBoCMEx
He would be the Chief Druid WIPiBocMEx

That's deep.

It's about right, though.
How many untruths in that statement, Morwenn?

I only perform in one band.
And we're not that extreme :o

Damn, I got an extra 's' in there.

@Morwenn Extreme Programming Metal?

I also compose pseudo-random things from time to time.

@Morwenn I've heard what Phrancis makes, you got a demo around somewhere?

@Morwenn Allright, not entirely what I expected after @rolfl 's statement
Cool hobby.

Well, what I do with my band is totally different.

That's more along the expectation.
