So, it's pretty easy to figure out which review queue items are tests if you use a filter.

You should go to the "Code Review" network. They will be able to give you a better answer. — Evan Carslake 52 secs ago

@Jamal See his profile? Some of the apps I have been working on: Bible: King James Version

Aahg. Stupid SQL. Again.

12:35 AM
SQL is not stupid. SQL is amazing.
Not magic, mind you... but definitely amazing.

SQL is amazing and close to magic, but is a pain to get right on the first try.

Most good things in life are like that. If it was easy, it would not be amazing.

true true

Now IF statements aren't working for some reason.
Isn't SQL just fucking annoying wonderful?

Show us what you have?

Okay, probably gonna put this up for CR later, so I don't need critique rn.
-- User parameters for finding questions. Here is
-- a brief description of what each parameter does.

-- @SortingOption - What to sort the question results by.
  -- Possible inputs include:
    -- 'votes'
    -- 'views'

  -- @MinQuestionVotes - This one is self-explanatory. This
-- parameter lets you choose the minimum amount of votes
  -- for question results.

-- @QuestionTag - Again, another obvious one. This parameter
-- lets you choose a tag that should be on a question.

DECLARE @SortingOption NVARCHAR(5) = ##SortingParameter##;
I'm getting the error Common table expression defined but not used. even when the IF statements should be working.

CTEs don't work like that.
CTE is part of a select statement. You can't use it across multiple select statements like that.
I wouldn't both with this IF logic even.

Oh, yeah, whoops. That should probably be SELECT ... UNION SELECT ..., right?

SEDE lets you sort the columns....
No, because you can't put IF within a SELECT...

12:59 AM
But you can use CASE.

Yes.... but... what you're doing... there's no reason.

Oh, okay. :(

That sorting option is based on a user input and only works through SEDE. That's not normal SQL.
But SEDE also lets me click a column header to sort ASC/DESC by that column.

Well, okay then. I'll just get rid of that, and the CTE.

Q: Finding questions to answer

Ethan BierleinIn light of the recent "SQL frenzy" of sorts in The 2nd Monitor, I decided to take a stab at writing my own SEDE query. Essentially, what it does is find questions that could be answered based on the following parameters. -- @MinQuestionVotes - The minimum amount of votes on a question. -- @MaxQ...

1:36 AM
@EthanBierlein I don't see anything wrong with it

@IsmaelMiguel Thanks :)
Well, brb, gonna go get a bite to eat.

@EthanBierlein It does not work for me .... Invalid column name "java".

@rolfl I get the same error
also is CONCAT('%', @QuestionTags, '%') better than '%' + @QuestionTags + '%'

Okay thanks, I appreciate the ideas you've given me. I may end up opening a port from the content script to the background under certain conditions. As far as being too opinion based - perhaps you're right. Next time I will post in code review. — dipole_moment 48 secs ago

@EthanBierlein I posted this in chat like 2 weeks ago, and also, it doesn't trash mac installations or win metro (I think)

1:48 AM
@rolfl / @Quill You need to enter it surrounded by quotes, like this: 'java othertag ...'

@EthanBierlein Declare the variable as ##QuestionTag1:string## instead.

@rolfl I've update my post with that relevant info now.

> Do not, when entering into the QuestionTags field
huh, do not?

@rolfl Save it for the review! :)
@Quill Edited.

@EthanBierlein You cannot enter multiple tags.
(well, you can, but the results don't work.)
Hey @LokiAstari - did you handle that question on meta (goes off to check...).

1:54 AM
Hmm, well, that's a bug. :/

> (surround your tags)
tags is plural too. be careful :P

I love it when a SQL query I've worked on for 2 hours has a bug. D:

Yes, I know this is the obvious answer... But as I said, for a lighter code, I preferred to work with ID, since it makes more sense to me (in terms of code reviewing)... — user3810691 15 secs ago

Q: Finding the first non-repeating character in a string

Sarthak SinghalBelow is a problem I encountered during an online course. There are a lot of similar questions asked on this, but I couldn't find a solution there as well as I believe my specific issue is a bit different from the rest. Given a string s, find the first non-repeating character in the string ...

All I really have to do is figure out how to configure the database on a network, find a good editor/IDE, and start.

@EthanBierlein Part 1 is really the more difficult part

4:16 AM
And that's the part I haven't managed to get past. At least with 0xDBE
I haven't tried other IDEs yet.
Maybe I'll just make my own query language.
This may actually be my issue.
I'm gonna try using 0xDBE with a different flavour of SQL.

Do yourself a favor and try without OxDBE first

@Phrancis Which IDE would you recommend then? I'm on windows.

The real question is, which DBMS do you want?

DBMS?

Database Management System

4:28 AM
Well, er, TSQL, I guess...

OK
Once you have it running, whatever IDE you use is a small matter
It comes with a quite good IDE, AFAIK

Oooh yay! I'm going to lose 4.2 more GB! I have like, 900 left though.

OK, @EthanBierlein
You probably want to download either of the x86 or x64 versions for both the top two, and bottom two items. Everything else, I'd leave checked

4:34 AM
@Phrancis Checked or unchecked - that is the question.
You can't leave something checked that is unchecked to begin with.

I think I has x86 architecture. Should I just download all the files with x86 in the name?

Yup.

And then also ones that say 64bit.

No.

x86 == Windows XP and older, no?

4:36 AM
Nope.

SCREW IT. DOWNLOAD ALL THE FILES

Ah, OK

@EthanBierlein NO!

LOL

4:37 AM
If you have x64, you can run either.
If you have x86, you can only run x86.
So, go x86 to be safe.
I don't remember off-hand how to find which you have, I think it is in the MSINFO32 file.

Ah, I have an x64 processer.

OS X is great. I wish I could install that program.
2

Yeah.
Most modern computers do.

I know how to use it. I just can't.
I have two other DBMS installed, just not Micro$oft's...

Oh god, so, what's the final verdict? What should I download, and what shouldn't I?

4:39 AM
Download x64, and the two in the middle

What about the items at the top?

x64

There is, after all, a scrollbar.

I can't see up past the scrollbar
Can you take another screenshot, or type up what else is there?

Well, this is embarrassing. The VM we’re temporarily running Data Explorer on ran out of space during the weekly update. A fix is underway.
A re-run of the weekly Stack Exchange Data Explorer data refresh is now underway. It will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

@Quill i dont see any point of this cv section if broken codes are unwelcome + alternative solutions are unwelcome too
after all my respects
@EthanBierlein chrome also says shit like (dont use extensions away from chrome store)

@StackExchange lol

im lil bit aware cuz not all non webstrored extensions are friendly , but its not a justification to go so thorough

@Quill Have an upvote.

11:23 AM
@Quill a writing tip: repeated mentions of "your code does this bad thing", "you do that bad thing", makes an answer sound a bit like a personal attack. I try to avoid using "you", and blame "the code" instead. I think that takes the edge off a little bit, and is usually better received, both by the OP and by other reviewers too

@Quill do you try to make some bad amulets which set peoples pesonal datas into ur trawls ? then blaming people for not understanding you trying to learn something pvt about them ? :D
u still remind me of my teen ages (when i was banned from all cyberspaces convicted of knowing more than i must know for that young age)

@Quill Usually a comment is a better idea, but this question is so bad the OP didn't even try.

Most of the people who post here and SO are probably employed to do that, yet they put little to no effort into writing their questions.
Strange thought.

@Quill I think the first one may be true, but the second one is following from the first..

@Vogel612 There's flag, star, flag for moderator, permalink, reply.
Where's mute?

Click on user, and in the small window at the bottom, "hide posts", and "ignore this user (everywhere)"
I've never used those things
I'd rather flag, to stop the pain for everyone

@janos I tend not to use them either. Chat gets confusing if not everyone agrees the troll should be gone.

@Agawa001 As per chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/240?m=22136171#22136171, and after a careful look through your recent message history, I am chat-suspending you for 7 days.

Didn't even know he was in the TCG room as well.

@Doorknob wise man!

@SimonAndréForsberg You did. But I think your reasoning for not including it still applies, and the amount of bad "post this on PPCG" recommendations is low enough that they can be handled "manually."

1:13 PM
a PCG moderator just gained a bit more of my respect, it's a strange world today...

@SimonAndréForsberg strange? Seeing as PPCG is obviously the best beta site, that shouldn't be a surprise ;)

I knew you were gonna say that come up with some lie ^^
@Doorknob I ran a SEDE query a while ago for comments mentioning 'code golf', but it wasn't easy for me to come up with a good filter to see when code golfing was discussed generally, and when something was a suggestion to post on PCG.

well, for me the best is really when the code speaks for itself

Definitely, but there should always be some context about what it's used for.
Code doesn't necessarily have it's own context.

even when code speaks for itself, I think it is more friendly by the OP to just add a little pure-English description about what the code does. Just a line or two to catch my interest, something that can make the question more interesting, to convince me to review the question.
If the OP doesn't bother adding a description, why should I bother reviewing it?

I agree the first paragraphs of a question are very important: they are shown on the question listing, and a good way to attract interest
most posters probably don't realize how their questions will look on the front page

I think for some there might be a case of TL;DR. For some a case of finding the information

^^^ that's really the tricky part: spread the word and hope for the best?
I guess this is one way:

Q: Objective C Asynchronous to Synchronous Database Access

user3623030I have found an open source Objective-C library for connecting to Microsoft SQL Server databases. The problem is, that I would like to use it synchronously. This is how my Swift project uses the library. func execute(query: String) { self.client.connect(host + ":" + port, username: user...

Q: Making numbers palindromic

Vicente BermúdezThis is a challenge I found here. You're suppose to list how many steps it takes to convert a number to a palindromic number. It's not working perfectly, the last challenge number takes 151 steps and gives me 3588816724276188853. (I'm not looking to fix this problem here, just wanted to point tha...

Q: Adding rows to LinearLayouts which serve as lists

newStartI have a fragment with a ScrollView and, inside of it, I need maybe 5 or 6 lists. To make things simpler, let's say there are three lists - list of names, list of places and list of events. The problem is, I can't use lists inside of ScrollViews so I need to use LinearLayouts and do the addi...

Q: What makes a hero?

LegatoIn the same vein as Hello parallel world, I practiced and illustrated some ideas with the intention of teaching a friend later on. A: What privilege should 30k users get?

rolflRealtime and smarter feeds Many processes in Stack Exchange are cached, or have delays, that enable the higher performance of the site. I propose that these caches are selectively removed for 30K users, and that feeds become personalized and more "real time". For example: Review Queue "icon...
