This question looks like it might be a pretty good fit for Code Review.SE, provided that (a) you want every aspect of your code reviewed, not just some, (b) your code is already working, and (c) you're asking for a review of concrete, real code, not abstract design (whether or not it's expressed as code). If you agree with all of those, please read about what's on topic, and, if your question fits that, delete it here and repost it on CR. — Phrancis 7 secs ago

Q: How to have my array element alternate sign from positive and negative

anthonyI need some clarification more than the code itself. I am trying to create a method for alternating sum of the elements in an array. I.e: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 desire output: 1 -2 +3 -4 +5 -6 +7 -8 +9 ... by far I manage to get the following: public static int AlternatingSum(int[]array) { int sum ...

I hate ASP.NET InProc.

@Duga Calm yer horses there pardner. We can save your question, just work with us
Also the answer there is crap, flagged as NAA

BTW, in the future, for feedback on already-working code, consider Code Review StackExchange instead. This type of question is often considered "too broad" on StackOverflow. — Charles Duffy 16 secs ago

Yay a checkmark :)

Are you around @Mat'sMug?

@Mehrad sort of

@Mat'sMug was so confused...

What's up?

for some reason I coudln't bring up Any() for my list
and somehow R# didn't even give me the hint
I was missing the 'using System.Linq;`

1:21 AM
R# would have let you import it with Ctrl+Enter

I know... there is normally a little blue square under the thingy
and then I go Ctrl+. and see the options but nah

Eh, sometimes it's just slow

After all it's Friday and can't expect more than that from R# :)
Cheers man... nice catching up

I'm using CLisp, but I just found (concatenate 'string "Hello" "World") :D

@mjolka Ah, is it fully compatible with CLisp, and then some extras?

@Phrancis no idea, sorry :)

OK no worries :)

@david - uhhh yeah?
Hmmm.... do I dare to turn notifications on again?

hey just wanted some feedback on my design on my question here... all those are good but wanted to see if you have any more suggestions.

Q: Synchronous / asynchronous REST client

davidI have working code with original design, and now I had a slight design change so trying to code review that as well. I already had code review on my original design here. Original Design: I am using RestTemplate as my HttpClient to execute a URL and then my server will return a JSON string as ...

I scanned that question a while ago. Looks like a good question, got my +1. The thing is that I don't really do REST and have not used those libraries... I skipped it.
I can see that the answers don't go in to too much of the meat of the question. Let me see if i can see something else.

I see but it's not about REST in my opinion.. I guess its about how you will design the system to call some service...
My original design is working fine in production but now after the design change the code and change I came up with is somehow looking weird to me and may be I am thinking there might be some better way
like I have two executors sitting there
second I have a call method inside another call method...
code is thread safe in my original design that I am sure so it should be thread safe in my new design as well...

@Mat'sMug My mind went for 3D printing and I was making one in my head

@rolfl NOO! this is the second time today I got somebodyelse's ping. was only a few hours ago in the ask ubuntu room. PS the other @david rolfl meant the message I replied to for you.

1:53 AM
Hello.

Well, I did spell @david with a lower-case d, and not @David with an upper-case D
:D

Hey @TheCoffeeCup

trouble with us two is we even both have green idintacons!

Well that's funny! :-)

Looks like we have a name-pinging problem...

1:58 AM
I know, I should have pinged @David♦ if I wanted the Blue david.
@david OK, your question is/was hard to follow, actually. The different designs make it .... multiple questions.

Did I miss a ping-fest?

You only really want the second code block reviewed... right, and the guts of the first design are repeated in the second? (just chekcing)

yes second code block which is in design change area
yes exactly first design is repeated in the second design
core issue is - earlier DataFetcherTask was responsible for one single DataKey
now in the design change it should be responsible for List<DataKey>
so that I can have List<DataResponse> instead of DataResponse

OK, your text description and code implementation don't match up. No timeouts in the code, only one executor service in the code, etc. These contradict your description

there is a timeout
in getSyncData method
and two executor I mean one in DataClient and second in DataFetcherTask class
DataClient will always be there right whether it is old or new design
Only part is changing is DataFetcherTask
In original design there is no executors in DataFetcherTask class but in new design there is.. so that's why I said two executors because DataClient will be there as it is..
with new design becoz of DataFetcherTask class signature of methods will get changed in DataClient class that's all but core logic is going to be same..

2:20 AM
OK, I'm hacking it. there are recommended changes.

ok but you got the idea what I am doing right? just making sure
DataClient will be there always only signature of those two methods will get changed and some data types that's all along with new DataFetcherTask class

@Mat'sMug Right, that's exactly what I heard haha, in good ol' Beauceron accent
In a language where return is not a keyword, and which has implicit returns, would it make sense to give a variable the name return if that's literally what it's intended for?

@Phrancis I'd call you reckless ;)

7:16 Am here, I should be working ;-)

6:17 AM
lol

Public Function Foo() As Integer
    Dim return As Integer
    return = 42
    Foo = return
End Function
looks weird

(defun fizzbuzz (n)
    "Given n, return the result of the FizzBuzz game for n."
    (setq return "")
    (if (fizz? n) (setq return (concatenate 'string return "Fizz")))
    (if (buzz? n) (setq return (concatenate 'string return "Buzz")))
    (if (string= "" return) (setq return n))
    return)

@Phrancis I'd agree with Mat's Mug on that. Might be confusing for those new to the language. retVal or similar works just as well.

Is how I was using it

> it you with cents what made the bucks

6:19 AM
Ah I like that ret-val (

I always felt vaguely ashamed for using names like retVal though. Even though I can't... entirely... explain why.

I use result all the time

Ooooohhh result nice

result, yes. return, no.
:)

Night.

A: Are code review questions off-topic?

ZakTo answer your question, it depends. See: A Guide to code Review for Stack Overflow users for a comprehensive run-down of which kinds of questions are appropriate for each site. (tl;dr it usually comes down to how specific the question is). IMO, the problem is not the rules. It is people who do ...

Q: Jquery Tab Plugin

Suresh PattuI have created a reusable code for jQuery tab functionality for my client site. Every thing works fine but the only thing I am worried is that the lines code I have written for this small feature is very high. Can any one help me to shrink lines of code or any suggestions. Here is my script /**...

janosThe letter "i" in h3 headers looks odd. Tested in Windows 7, Chrome, IE. For example: Single responsibility principle Looks like this: Basically it looks like capital "I", and it's weird. I don't remember seeing it like this on OSX. h2 and h1 headers are fine. Can something be done about th...

A: How to fulfill a wish without causing a lot of troubles

ScottSolution by induction. Get 2 people. Grant Person A the wish of teleporting $2 million from a Swiss Bank vault to your location. That money is split evenly. Grant person B the wish of "at dawn, create a person who exists until dusk, at which time they make this wish, and then disappears." Immo...

Q: short or simple solution for putting values from label to column in excel

jLawGood day, anyone can help me with this problem, I have a code here that counts number of fruits from Column B to Column AF (31 days) I used switch that would be case 1 to case 31. So much Naïveté:
Code review has some of the clearest scope of all Stack Exchange sites. I really don't see how could people with a minimum of intelligence could misinterpret them. We aren't talking about the average user here, but trusted users with 3000 rep who have close vote rights. So it seems quite a bit exaggerated that this would be such a big problem for Code Review. Where are all those posts that were closed because people were told to post on Code Review instead of SO? Any statistics for how common they are? — Lundin 1 min ago

Challenge accepted!

@CaptainObvious There is part of the code missing/cut out, but it's part of a really long switch operation... Can someone who knows more about C# have a look?

hello friends

Please add at least 2 more cases of the switch or you can post all the code as well. We on CR have a different character limit than e.g Stack Overflow. — Heslacher 11 secs ago
@Phrancis ^^
IMO, its not that clear with only 2 cases which are different too

A: Connect Four AI (Minimax) in Clojure

BenC This is two and a half years old, but for the sake of future viewers: Overall your coding style looks pretty good, especially for someone new to Clojure. I don't have any comments on the AI engine itself, but here are a few structural notes: not-nil? already exists in clojure.core as some?. ...

To clarify, it is Clojure, which is a variant of Lisp but for the JVM. I'm not very good at Lisp but I'll have a look at least

Hey there @Malachi!

@Lundin while we at Code Review appreciate that you think the guidelines are clear (and we do, trust us), the reality of things is that we actively monitor each CR mention in SO comments in an attempt to mitigate off-topic questions being cross-posted. Maybe you should come and hang out in our main chat room for a while some time if you are curious about how we manage things from Code Review's end. — Phrancis 3 mins ago
