Hello @MrLore

Greetings

What brings you here?

I'm looking for a 10k user on a beta site to help me see if there's a bug
I can't see the "anonymous and low rep post feedback" button at the bottom of the moderator tools on Movies & TV even though I have the privileges to get on the page
Can you see that button on the Moderator tools page on here?

I haven't been on the mod tools in a while, let me check
@MrLore Where should it be located on that page?

12:52 AM
This screenshot says it should just be at the very bottom:
But as I say, I can't see it so I think there's a bug

Yep, I'm not seeing it either

Thank you very much for your help syb0rg :)

Let me know if you post something about in on Meta, I'll upvote it

Will do, cheers

@nhgrif is that one of those potential "grey area" questions the other monkey was asking for?

It doesn't have the actual implementation of those functions, just the function prototypes.
(from what I can see anyways)

@Phrancis Yes.

However, I see it as perfectly on topic.

1:07 AM
I'd be curious if you posted on Programmers too, rephrasing the English part to be more in context there, and see what kind of responses you get
Compare the two and see where the chips fall

@nhgrif Can you only have one view?
Like this method:
- (void)viewDidLoad NS_REQUIRES_SUPER;
Is there only one view that can be loaded?

in this question codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/60649/… would it be acceptable to answer with just a response to this part: "I'm also verifying space complexity to be O(2n)" ?

@syb0rg Per view controller? Yes, sort of.

@mjolka I would say it is more of a comment

I mean, that view can have subviews... but a view controller controls a view

1:12 AM

er

And the viewDidLoad method is called when the view has finished loading.

@mjolka I guess it depends on how far you take the review. I guess you could make it into an answer, but if it ends up only being one sentence I see it as more of a comment.

@mjolka "You can get a O(nlogn) by sorting the two strings and comparing them." is an answer though.

Looks like Java

@nhgrif So something like this would be absurd?
- (void)view:(UICollectionViewController *)view didLoad:(BOOL)loaded;

@syb0rg The methods I marked as NS_REQUIRES_SUPER are already existing methods for UIViewController
from which SQLViewController inherits
This seems like a discussion for tomorrow afternoon or perhaps this weekend?
Remember to ask me about it, but I'm about to go to bed.

1:18 AM
"So yes, that would be absurd" is what you are saying. Dang, now I have to find some other points to review in your question.
Thing is, your API is actually really good.

Of course it is--I wrote it.

An answer for that question is going to be hard to pull off though

But the view controller life cycle is still worth discussing for someone venturing into iOS development
anyway, I'm going to bed.

@Yuushi Very true, but I'm used to having most of my classes in one building.
I'm glad this won't involve C and MIPS. At least we (should) be doing assignments that won't be easier implemented in C++.

@syb0rg can you believe that we got our wish codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/60657/…

Notepad++ is good. Flexible enough to get whatever you need out of it.

ugh @mleyfman beat us to it!!

definitely vim.

@bazola Did you see my answer on @nhgrif's question though? codereview.stackexchange.com/a/60659/27623

1:56 AM
in all seriousness, notepad++ is pretty good

now i have

You might need to play with the settings for a bit before it looks right to you, but I like it. I use it a lot when reviewing away from my IDE.

@Jamal If you're doing threading and having to use pthreads, I might beg to differ :/

OpenMP FTW

The syllabus does mention OpenMP, POSIX, CUDA, and some other things.

1:59 AM
Just looking for something simple with decent default settings so I can just sit down and write code, rather than spend an hour configuring it...

@Jamal Some interesting stuffs in there!
OpenGL in there as well?

@Phrancis it is more for javascript also but I like netbeans for an IDE for html/css/javascript that has debugging pretty much built in

Wait... I thought NetBeans was for Java...?

@syb0rg No, it's not there. But it does also mention MPI.

@Phrancis it has a few different languages it can do by default if I am not mistaken. i don't think i had to install anything for it to do web languages. and you can click run on an index.html and it will launch in chrome or whatever in debugging mode

2:03 AM
Huh. Nifty, I'll try that

I use Brackets for my web development: brackets.io
Haven't looked for another IDE since.
(web-related IDE that is)

Oh that looks nice

@syb0rg thanks i will give that one a try too, netbeans runs very slow

Wow that looks really fudging cool @syb0rg

Keep in mind that it still is in beta (despite that, I haven't had many problems at all with it)

2:07 AM
for "live" stuff you can also look at codepen.io

Can you have multiple files open, e.g., an HTML and a CSS source, both acting on the same content?

Yes
And throw in JavaScript in there too

And <?php ? ;-)

I haven't tried PHP in it, but I would assume it should work

$this->sucks;
Can you even do SQL injection with it? lol
Don't you love installing/uninstalling programs on OSX?

2:17 AM
yes

yep

but what i don't love is when applications save their files to their own app.app in the applications folder and it defaults to read only from outside
and also if you try to go to myusername/applications you will find it quite empty and have to learn that you can use /Applications to find the root directory

@bazola An ObjC highroller from SO answered on that question as well:

@Phrancis Notepad++ will work just fine. Don't mess with an IDE yet if you're just learning HTML + CSS.

I'm not learning, just refreshing ;-)

@bazola, @syb0rg I'm a beginner at Obj. C, but it's nice to see that I have something to contribute.

I've been asked to design an HTML interface for a TCG we're working on

@ckuhn203 i love notepad++ as much as the next guy but can it do debugging?

@mleyfman That makes 3 of us learning the ropes together :)

@syb0rg it's a fun language to learn though

@bazola, if you're debugging HTML you're doing it wrong.

^^ You need regex for that

well i always throw some javascript in there myself :)

No seriously, can you "bug" HTML? It just shows shit on the screen, doesn't really do anything

2:24 AM
HTML doesn't even do that.
Off topic @CaptainObvious
The browser does that part. HTML is just data.

Like... XML?

Pssst HTML is XML. Don't tell anyone...

Oh.

Well, HTML5 a special kind of XML at least.

No wonder it's so mind-numbingly boring to write HTML.

i told you, if you want fun, get the javascript to generate the html dynamically

@ckuhn203 my understanding is that XHTML is XML-compliant. HTML isn't strict enough...

you could look at codecademy.com for javascript, its great if you are just starting out :)

Q: Java - JDBC - How to make my DAO implementation more readable and efficient either in logic or design

@ckuhn203 I don't understand "Client code was getting buggy passing around references"... that's exactly what Clone does, no?
I learned a few tricks reviewing your code, thanks for sharing that!

No. Clone creates a brand new object, so if I Add item to the clone, it doesn't get added to the original.
You're welcome! Thanks for looking at it.
Wait... Did I get CloneCollection right and Clone wrong? Brb.

lol

No. Clone works fine, but the complexity is hidden in the Collection setter.

oh shoot, I glossed over the call to CloneCollection
wait, it doesn't work
Dim x As New Enumerable
x.Add 1
x.Add 2
x.Add 3

Dim y As New Enumerable
Set y = x.Clone
^^ what am I doing wrong?

Using VB?

2:46 AM
worse. VBA! ;)

<< that

It doesn't? Sh... I'll have to look at it tomorrow.

"Invalid procedure call or argument" at results.Add item in CloneCollection

We need to come up with some kind of monster... combine 3 horrible things... ?

oh

2:48 AM
Ugh.... What did I break..?

Public Function CloneCollection() As Collection
    Dim element As Variant
    Dim results As New Collection

    For Each element In mCollection
        results.Add item
    Next

    Set CloneCollection = results
End Function
fix:
Public Function CloneCollection() As Collection
    Dim element As Variant
    Dim results As New Collection

    For Each element In mCollection
        results.Add element
    Next

    Set CloneCollection = results
End Function
item is another member
Public Function item(Optional index)
    item = mCollection.item(index)
End Function
I'll pretend I never saw that

Ahhhhh. Crap.
That's why vba needs a good testing environment. I changed something and forgot to retest it.

happens to all of us ;)

Still, for all it's flaws, it's pretty cool.

it is

2:53 AM
And now that I know it's compatible with List...

and you're right about Clone being all right. I'll edit that part out.
List is also just a glorified Collection ;)

So is my code. I want to clean it up and think about where the two concepts meet.

at instance level I'd guess
how did I miss that For Each works with arrays? Seriously, all these years!!

I think it's just Variant arrays though.

ah, makes sense
Variant() is special in VBA/VB6.

2:58 AM
Spolsky made the VB6 team add it in.
And we killed chat. Sorry @all.

oops
btw this works:
Dim z(1 To 10) As Integer
For Each zz In z
    Debug.Print zz
Next
anyway, TTGTB for me.

@CaptainObvious this is off topic, just need the correct reason to close

@Heslacher off topic -> other -> type one

No
There's a "code not yet written" close reason

Try to avoid the custom reason at basically all costs.

Is it me, or would checkout a branch in git be more logical if it was called checkin?

I do recommend not giving advice to off-topic questions
Beyond how to make the question on-topic.

That comment is probably a good point, and if he fixes his question could serve as the basis of a good answer.
But giving that sort of advice to clearly off-topic questions encourages users to post off-topic questions anyway.

Q: PHP User Authentication Class For Basic User Service

Dom FarolinoThis is where I got the idea for most of the code I think this is pretty decent, I have some supplemented PHP functions that I have used for Ajax Requests and things like that but I want to know if this User class is secure, what some developers would do to make it better and I don't really know...

Q: Clone Table containing form elements to post to php file/MYSQL Database

James HamI have a form in which users will be adding passengers to a manifest. Dependent upon how many people may be on a flight, will decide how many DIV's will be displayed to the user (selected from a select element). Sadly, I have browser forums for a few weeks, and tried multiple different ways and a...

Q: Which Encryption Code is More Secure?

javaseaayameradostI have made some C# code for encryption and decryption that converts whole files to one huge byte[] not blocks so after scouring the internet i found a few code samples that do the encryption in blocks but didn't seem very secure. which is more secure, memory efficient, and whats good in which? @Heslacher Very nice! I could use one of those myself.

If you want to babysit/entertain my 11 year old daugther.....
you can for sure get one week

I don't think I've ever had more than two weeks of vacation at one time.

lol. I don't ever dare take more than 2 days off at a time. It's actually more stressful coming back to that.

So you tell a dev "but I don't think that issue is really common, so it could just be a one-time only thing already fixed by a patch"
5 seconds later
"I'm having a problem with saves: they disappear every time i refresh the game page and the game freezes when i try to load a save from a file in my pc. Is this normal?"
O_o nooooooo

@Pimgd huh?

Some indie dev just went beta 2 weeks ago. He's getting swamped with bug reports aside from the usual admin tasks, so I've taken to filtering the bugs for him via the facebook group
he's moving countries so yeah, bit of a hassle
by having me (one of the best testers) filter some of the crap out he can focus on the real bugs
and now we've found a scary one
One bug that corrupts all your savefiles and freezes the game upon load
And I have no idea what could be causing it

Ohhhhhhhhhhh. Yeah. No bueno.
