OK OK, just one more comment:
@djechlin FYI, I have simply down-voted this answer because of Shog9's attitude in writing the answer. The whole attitude of this answer is honestly not something I expected from a Stack Exchange community manager. Anyone wants to do my Algorithms homework in exchange of making the next CR coding challenge?

@skiwi Pffft... why wouldn't I want to make the challenge myself? Coding is fun :)

Well...
Maybe you think homework is more fun!
I stll have no clue why the lighting in my program is messed up

@skiwi Graphics was the hardest course for me@uni and I still have not used anything we're taught there.

woot I think I just fixed it
You really, really, really need to know what you are doing
you know the Phong shading model @palacsint?
Anyway problem I now need to fix is that on the backface there is a specular highlight... which makes no sense if it's not in view of the light

12:08 PM
It felt like that every case is a corner case
I just wonder whether TDD or unit tested would have helped or not.
@skiwi I'm afraid not or at least I've forgotten it

I don't think you can TDD shaders

Oh, look who's here! Hi @GraceNote

Hi all!

hey
Everyday I'm trippeling...

By the way, what are those images you keep posting?

12:14 PM
It's from some 3D thing I"m making
I'm (still) trying to get the lighting model correct

Is it ray tracing?

I wish I could show it, but then you'd need to install Java 8 and download it every time :P Because you can move around with your mouse
Phong lighting
It's a nice model, but not close to the complicatedness and perfectness of ray tracing
or the radiation lighting model

Bah, Phong is one of the bases of raytracing if I'm not mistaken.
I tried to write a little raytracer once. ut when I code in C++, I am always focusing on having great code instead of having great results. So naturally, I never finished it.

In C++?
Not on a GPU? or combination you mean

Ah, is that why I haven't finished so many of my projects?
2

12:19 PM
@skiwi Nope, not on GPU. But I am still working on the interface and did not write the internals (Phong and friends), so the internals could probably rely on GPU.

ah okay
My shadows... just disappeared

What? o_o

damn, I removed the code that calculates them
that's why they disappeared

xD

I should set up version control... Still got dropbox history though
Actually netbeans history aswell

12:22 PM
I remember that the code for an example of raytracer may be one of the worst c++ codes I've ever seen.

I tried to approach this simulation from an OOP perspective, but damn it is hard if you do not know exactly how everything works

First of all: #ifndef __CONFIG_H
Wooh, double underscore. Not allowed /o/

I always chuckle when I'm just reading C++ (I do not program in it, ever) code and see all those directives

But the class Color is one of the most evils things I've ever come across.

Why?

wow
Ah ye another reason I try to stay away from C++ is all those types of casting you can do

if you're using a lot of casting in C++, you're doing it wrong

ok

also, that code is just...bad

I don't remember having ever needed a reinterpret_cast, except for the time where we were programming with a CAN bus.

12:27 PM
First spring day here in The Netherlands :o

Second sunny day here in France xD

Well yesterday was very nice aswell
but it's almost 20 degrees here

Yeah, I can't think of a time i've used a reinterpret_cast

Pfff, I didn't get to see one snowflake this year :(

Appereantly there was snow this winter for one morning
But when I woke up, it was gone already

12:31 PM
Not in Brest.

Here in toronto it is close to a record, or is a record, or something.... More than 90 days with 'snow on the ground' (more than 1cm of snow at all times)
We have 2 feet at the moment
Last time it actually snowed was a week ago though.

what's a snow?

Here, the only record we got this winter concerned the number and the violence of storms. There have been waves between 14 and 20 meters...

About the 7th day of spring here :)
Although the weather is a whole lot better today than it has been recently.

5:40 PM
@ShahrukhKhan a Set shouldn't contain duplicates in the first place. You may have to write a wrapper object for the values that provides better hashCode and equals implementations if it doesn't work as expected

Yeah, arrays doesn't implement equals properly. There is Arrays.equals(a, b) to check that. So a wrapper-object is what I would do.
@Mat'sMug I have an idea for a coding challenge but I'm not sure how specific my meta answer should be? The challenge can be small and can be quite big. How much should be left up to the programmer to implement?

@SimonAndréForsberg Well... I've seen Hello World-programs of 10K lines...

@skiwi Holy....! I'd like to take a look at those!

Q: A JSON parser in C

syb0rgI've created a JSON parsing library in C, and would like some feedback on it. Any and all suggestions are acceptable, but I would prefer if reviews were focused on making this more efficient. My header file: #ifndef _json_H_ #define _json_H_ /** * JSON type identifier. Basic types are: * o...

utmost interesting...
:o interesting @syb0rg

@skiwi If you like it, upvote it :)

almost forgot ;)

@skiwi you should change your project from “writing a renderer” to “psychedelic art”

Q: Why is this binary tree implementation faster in Sparkling than in Lua?

H2CO3Here's a binary tree implementation in Lua: local random = math.random function makeRandomTree(depth) if depth == 0 then return nil end local node = { ["data"] = random(17) } node.left = makeRandomTree(depth - 1) node.right = makeRandomTree(depth - 1) return n...

@skiwi what was that image about?

bunch of random things, it was supposed to be a scene, but I applied some background from a tutorial on it

ok is that image used in any question/answer?

nope

hmm

I'm trying to figure out how I can have a sun in the background

6:30 PM
I don't know how I find myself in this chat room every time with a exam next day :P

@skiwi Right, the solution to that, is to go outside, on a sunny day .... I know that it not normal for programmers, but, you should consider it....

I... I... actually did that today @rolfl The sun, it burned my eyes

Humidifier installed... moving on.

If only there was a good place for graphics questions, SO is really... low chance

Q: Play music using HTML 5 player and use iframe to continuous music

Dinesh SainiI have used a player to play continuous music using iframe. It is code of Index file and player code is here http://musosbook-qa.zapbuild.com/player.js <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var BASE_URL = "http://musosbook-qa.zapbuild.com/musosbook/"; var AWS_URL = "h...

@skiwi If you're feeling adventurous (and writing the code in C++) a few of the regulars on the Lounge have been working on some graphics code recently.

It's actually 'CPU' language independent
The interesting graphical stuff happens in shader languages

@skiwi there is a GraphicDesign.SE

but thanks for the suggestion, I'll be sure to check it out later
Ah it's not design though, it's more like this:

@tintinmj that's a different kind of graphics … more about photoshop & stuff

Q: Sun shader not working

skiwiI'm trying to get a sun shader to work, but I can't get it to work. What I currently get is a quarter of a circle/elipsis on the lower left of my screen, that is really stuck to my screen (if I move the camera, it also moves). All I do is render two triangles to form a screen-covering quad, with...

Hm since when do SO links work?

6:41 PM
hmm

@skiwi More of them (in the Lounge) are using OpenGL than DirectX, but unless you want to ask about mechanics, most of what's interesting is fairly independent of the shader language as well (largely because they almost all grew from Cg).

@rolfl are you free?

@JerryCoffin That's even cooler, and I am actually using OpenGL

@tintinmj ... cheap, not free ;-)

he he

6:48 PM
In the middle of an answer, but it's not time-critical ;-) What's up?

ok don't want to sound VIP but did you check my comment? codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/43783/…

@tintinmj - I read that comment at my in-laws place, and was packing things up....
I did not follow what you were trying to say, and then forgot about it ;-)

did you get what was i'm trying to say?

Are you saying that I have some form of stupid self referential problem with sme crazy recursion?
How do I get +4 upvotes on crap like that?

no actually I was saying that, I think there is a bug
isn't levelAchievedOption(levela >= 0 ? levelAchievedOption(levela, levelAchieved) : ""), wrong?

6:52 PM
That's what I am saying too, but just using more appropriate terminology.

I'm back now. Did someone require my attention?

some potential user-account merging may b called for/

ohh didn't follw
:)
i mean couldn't follow

@tintinmj I am not sure why I put that extra code in. I would have identified it/stripped it the moment I ran it (which I never did in this case)..... I have edited my answer: codereview.stackexchange.com/posts/43788/revisions
have a look at the edits and see how stupid the first version was.

actually i wasn't so sure to edit myself cause i never saw you made a mistake

6:57 PM
@ShahrukhKhan: Hello! You're asking for your accounts to be merged, right?

@Jamal Wasn't that @200_success?

lol

lol ShahrukhKhan. Looks like a bollywood fan like myself :P
hey @ShahrukhKhan "kaise ho bhai?"

Q: Simple RabbitMQ client wrapper

egerhardI'm writing a small F# module to wrap the .Net RabbitMQ client. The goal is to make interacting with RabbitMQ a little more functional. I'm looking to get some feedback on the quality of my F# code as well as what patterns or best practices I should be using to make this better. module Client ...

Thanks, monkey!
Almost to 7K, too. But I might be out of zombies.

It seems I was the first person since the data refresh.
it was not cached.
Thanks Santa!

> You've earned the "Necromancer" badge for Improving the Java UUID class performance.
@konijn congrats on 100 bronze badges (and more things too!).

hmm, I've got an expression that is not greater, not smaller and not equal to zero...

Sounds like Double.NaN

it's actually a float, so might be in shader language

Sounds like Float.NaN

there's isnan and isinf, yay
Thanks a lot @rolfl It was not a number yep
