@Malachi Merry Christmas!

@syb0rg @Malachi merry christmas you two
and also the rest

@Nobody Is it Christmas yet where you live?

well it is over by now
I live in Germany so we traditionally have the 24th to celebrate and its 1am on the 25th now

@Nobody Oh. Did you get anything of interest?

hm most interesting part for me was: "The C++ programming language" fourth edition

12:06 AM
@Nobody I think I own that book. I haven't read it, but I have skimmed it and it looks very good.

i hope to get some value out of it
and if it is only to impress by filling up my bookshelf ^^
but I already got some new piece of advice from it
altough I forgot it again by now

@Nobody I hate when that happens.

well at some time I will have forgotten that I forgot it so no more anger :)
and on the plus side: I will have something "new" to learn

@200_success Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas @200_success

Have you all seen my hat proposal?

A: What are the fantasy secret hats you'd wish to get?

syb0rgThe Robot Get caught by the bot detection software and fail pass the CAPTCHA human test.

Merry Christmas @Nobody and everybody!
@syb0rg The "Don't parse HTML using regex" rant was funny, but actually not applicable to that particular question, in my opinion.

@200_success I know. You still got an up-vote from me though :)

… because the question was about searching for a particular HTML tag, not about parsing an HTML document. You would only fool the regex if the document were malformed, or if the document were XHTML and some HTML-resembling text appeared in a CDATA section.

Hey, all. I just got back from the hospital to see my grandpa. He's suffering tremendously from Parkinson's. I just couldn't believe what I saw. I'll still be around, though.

12:18 AM
@Jamal: Sorry to hear that

@Jamal That sucks. I'm sorry.

12:38 AM
@Jamal Sorry to hear that. From time to time, we could all use reminders about what is truly important in life.
2

Indeed. I do wish Parkinson's research was one of the charitable donations option for the moderators, as I would've chosen that in an instant.

@Jamal I've been meaning to ask… and you don't have to answer now, or at all… Do you think CR has the right number of moderators? Of our three moderators, one is not very active, and I don't think I've seen any moderation activity at all from the other.
Alternatively, perhaps you should work out a more equitable load balance amongst yourselves. Wouldn't want to see you get burned out.

I've sort of spoken to SE about that, but I won't share more about that as it may best stay private for now. As far as I know, three should be enough, but indeed there should be activity from all of them. Or maybe it's because of the holidays.

may I ask who the other two moderators are? I only ever saw you @Jamal

Q: Moderator Pro Tem Announcement

Rebecca ChernoffThroughout the beta, we need members from the site whose focus is to engage the community, both in community-building issues and site management. That's why we select a few members from each community to act as temporary, provisional Moderators. You can read about the program here: Moderators Pro...

That satisfies me. I'll drop the issue for now.

We are told repeatedly that we're not asked more than than we can donate. I've spent so much time here because I want to, not because I feel obligated. The same applies to the others. If they cannot spend too much time here, that's fine. Overall, I would like to hear from them first, but I also shouldn't bug them.

12:56 AM
I am going to sleep now. Bye all

Bye!

@Nobody Finally someone from my time zone!
@Jamal I hope your grandpa is a fighter, regarding the Parkinson's.

Me, too. He's one of the kindest people I know, and he doesn't deserve this.

Q: How well or poorly structured are my routes in this NodeJS app?

JGallardoThis is for an app built with Express. One of my concerns is the routes ending with / which I did because our previous site was an ASP app. So they named the folders that way for SEO purposes, then the page would be index.aspx .But in my case I just did, for example science.jade and routed it f...

Q: Review of java interface for constructing brain model

Quinn LiuI have built a partial human brain model and the following is an example of how I use all the classes. I was wondering if anyone could critique my implementation strategies because I feel like the following setup is very clumsy. user2793065I have such a problem: I'm parsing a lot of html files with Simple HTML Dom Parser, that's why I need to use three 'foreach's to parse the nescessary information from it -> I am getting a lot of information and now I have three arrays which keep it. Fabrício MattéI'm coding an algorithm to remove a parameter (let's call it foo) from URL strings. Hello CR addicts! Merry xmas!

Merry Christmas! Who else here is doing nothing today? Just me? Okay, then.

@Jamal best wishes to you & your family.

Thanks! Likewise.

Hello @retailcoder
@Jamal I don't think I have any plans to do anything special.

5:55 PM
I'm just gonna play some games and, as per usual, keep CR open in my browser. Perhaps I'll find more to do later.
By the way, does anyone here have a Steam account?

What's Steam?

...that's a no. :-P But I think I do remember you saying that you just use Xbox.

Yeah... haven't really played since the twins started walking!

Awwwwww. :-)

It's all about priorities: CR > Xbox :)
Actually Kids > CR > Xbox

6:03 PM
@Jamal Yes, I have steam

I have electricity

Ha! Take that, Microsoft!
@syb0rg: What's your username?

@syb0rg: There are three listings with your username. What does your avatar look like?

6:22 PM
Aw man. :-( If my laptop was stronger, I'd buy this right away.

@Jamal So what do you want to play? My desktop can't handle much graphics load either.

I mostly play TF2, but I'm currently playing Duke Nukem 3D.

@Jamal no kidding - DN3D??!!

Yup. Steam has it on sale now.

I have it on my xbox!

6:28 PM
Is it through XBLA or something?

@Jamal did you fiddle with build.exe?
yup

@Jamal When you are done with Duke, we can play TF2.

I didn't fiddle with anything, though I'm interested in seeing the source code (not that I'll even be able to understand it).
Sure!

My goal today: reach 1K on CR.
2

I'd play TF2 now, but I'm not on a stable connection right now.

6:31 PM
@Jamal I'm not even sure how to play with friends on TF2, I've never done this before.

@Jamal build is the DN3D map editor and game engine. works with zillions of keyboard shortcuts, I used to know them all...

I usually just join a public server with them, while it's not guaranteed that we'll be on the same team.
@retailcoder: Game engine? I don't want to mess with that. :-P

@Jamal I once created a whole episode!

:O

The best map I remember was a maze with a ceiling that crushed you if you didn't make it.

6:40 PM
Oomph, uugh, where is it?

@jamal it's long gone! That's just the wiki/tutorial for making DN3D maps :)

Damn

Q: Suggestions for improvment

ao2130Here is a solution for problem #7 on projecteuler.net By listing the first six prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and 13, we can see that the 6th prime is 13. What is the 10,001st prime number? 6:51 PM
@syb0rg @Jamal Yes, I have a Steam account but I'm rarely online. I'm not really a gamer, and when I do play, it's mostly Age of Empires 3.

@SimonAndréForsberg THAT is one of the best games ever made.

@syb0rg Indeed it is :) I like it a lot. We can play it sometime through Hamachi if you'd like.

That and Civilization :)

7:10 PM
Christmas is a time for miracles, and strange hockey goals. wimp.com/strangestgoals
@retailcoder Civilization is fun, but it takes so much time! If it would have been a faster game, I would play it more.

I never saw the puck going in
@SimonAndréForsberg never won a game by year 1000?

@retailcoder Look at the replay :) I didn't saw it first, but when they painted a circle around the puck it was hard to miss it.
Nope, I've never won a game by year 1000.

Being the first civilisation to conquer space isn't the only way to win ;)

haha
I know
although that was normally the way I won when I played computers a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away)

I looked at the replay 3 times, I lose the puck after the blue circle goes away - never saw it going in. Giving up. I guess it's a goal.
Oh
wait
it's in the goalie's pants!!

Q: Stack implementation

10:05 PM
@syb0rg - greetings!

@rolfl Hello!
I like your new hat.

Boo ... so you dropped and re-created the github web-repo?
(there are currently no 'issues' on there....)

@rolfl Yes, it now uses parts of the html5 boilerplate
I figure that would be a good point to start over.
Plus, I think I have the hang of pushing and pulling now.

OK, just that all the 'join' requests have 'gone' too:

@rolfl Everyone that asked has been added to their requested groups.

10:13 PM
In general, you should not do what you have done ;-) !
The 'right' thing would be to put in a new version of the interface, rather than drop and recreate.
Now all the history is lost.

@rolfl Yeah, I'm starting to realize that. :(

(not that there was much but still .....)
People work with different philosophies, but, mistakes, bugs, requests, etc. all tell a story. As an 'old fart', I will impart some 'wisdom'..... you always want to keep the history because knowing why, when, and how you change things is often only revealed through the source-control system.
It also keeps people 'real' when there is a permanent record of their activities... ;-)
