A: What to consider when deciding DB roles?

Yannick LiekensWell it's rather hard to answer since it all depends on your application. Sit down with the application owner and go through how he sees it. Who has to access it? What do they have to do? (readonly, updates, deletes..) Different tiers of users? (ReadOnly user, admin user,..) The main thing you ...

Can't see it myself.

@PaulWhiteReinstateMonica Knowing what I know now, I don't see anything new for myself in that answer either. It's just that it's not obvious to me that most beginners would figure out those points (nicely summarised too, I think) without help. I mean, I'm not convinced either way. Do they look like self-evident points to you?
I'm merely afraid of letting something valuable go, in case there is something valuable there (which to me looks as though there is, but I'm not sure). And the fact that my vote would be the binding one in this case doesn't help me to set my mind at peace.

Well I haven't 'voted' to delete it either, yet. My point is you could justify keeping almost anything that wasn't complete nonsense on the basis you are proposing. Someone, somewhere might find it useful.
...or they might find that instead of something better 🙂
Sometimes you have to ask yourself what is best for the site.

I'm actually trying to be reasonable here. I'm questioning if it can be useful for most beginners, not just for some

Are beginners our target audience
Anyway. Let's see what happens with the question edit and reopen review.
I don't think the answer is strong to enough to prevent question deletion. If the question is reopened, a better answer might appear to save it. Maybe.

The way it's summarised, it might serve well as a reminder for non-beginners too. But I'm not trying to argue that point much. To answer the question, no, I don't consider beginners to be our target audience. Well, not the primary target anyway
@PaulWhiteReinstateMonica Well, that's where I'm struggling really. If it's not good enough, I'm happy to cast the final vote

Each of us must make our own mind up. I'm happy to wait for the reopen review to complete.

So am I. I'll let the result of the review be the deciding factor for me. However much value I might be imagining that answer to have, God knows it's not enough to justify the time we've spent discussing it.

heh
it's fun to talk about things like that
the answers aren't easy

Amen to that
