So my first Fate chargen/worldgen session was a great sucess.
Oooer. Tell!
With a completely different city than I thought we'll play in, which is half the fun.
We're playing Dresden File...ish. Modern supernatural.
We decided on an American city, and set out to determine themes and threats.
The first theme was "Gay Friendly", the second "Jungle vs. Development", and the threat was an eco-terrorist group known as the Greens trying to undermine the balance of the city.
So we have a city in the American southeast, either Florida or Louisiana, encroaching wetlands. The main conflict in the city is the balance between those trying to stop the development into the wetlands (personalized in Dionea, an environmental lawyer on the city council, whose catchphrase/aspect is "Do you have a permit for that?"),
and those trying to improve the city and extend it (personalized by Christian Thatcher, millionaire industrialist, whose aspect is "We Built This City". Most public buildings are named after the Thatcher family).
The aspect associated with this is "Pick a side". Everyone in the city is associated with one of the sides, Green or Chrome.
The "Gay Friendly" theme is realized in the aspect "The streets are fabulous". The city is very young and colorful and accepting, which is why many supernatural beings find it easy to live there.
Cool.
The temperate/semi-tropical climate supply us with the "Everything happens outdoors" aspect, and one of the locations thought up was "The Rooftops", where the parties happen, and "Orderly Park", outside of city hall, where most town meetings and public events are held.
Other locations include The Silicon Jungle, the high-tech district in the middle of the city, Thatcher House, a museum of the history of the city and its establishment by Herbert Thatcher in the 1850's, including his son, Albert Thatcher's collection of oddities and occult books brought over from the Old World (Ireland, specifically), and Croc-town, the run-down slums on the edge of the swamps where animals (and worse) occasionally roam the streets at night.
Sounds fun!

VEry much so.
Our characters haven't meshed much yet, despite some backstory tie-ins.
We have a winter faerie working as a bartender.
A human pediatrician who recently learned she could speak to animals.
An immortal exile from the Nevernever who was cursed a thousand years ago by a human wizard and turned into an eagle to learn humility, something she hasn't quite managed yet.
(Though she can usually stay in human shape)
And me, an ex-cop who dabbles in magic.
From last night's chargen for my group:
in RPG General Chat, 17 hours ago, by BESW
Characters:
- photobiologist/astroengineer who turned himself into a plant mutant
- the plant he uplifted into a humanoid as proof of concept before trying it on himself; she is now a xenosociologist studying humanity
- geneticist/ninja with a perfection complex (and apparently prejudice against mutants despite being blasé about re-writing his own genetics)
- retired G-man looking for Magic And Wonder
- telekinetic security guard with a Jedi-like code of honour
- hacker/gearhead plagued with moral qualms
For a second there I read "perfection complex" as "perfect complexion"
Other locations include the Thatcher Practices, the medical building where the doctor has her private practice, and the high-rise building where Alba, the eagle-lady, lives in the penthouse.
(She's rich, working as a consultant and designer for video game companies, specializing in beat-em-ups and combat mechanics, usually based on her own experiences in beating things up over the years)
We divided up the approaches quite neatly without even trying - one Clever, one Forceful, one Careful and one Sneaky.

So we had a couple of prequel short scenes to establish relations between several pairs of characters. "Why does she owe you a favor"?" and "Someone was trying to kill you. Where was that?" that got us some nice links.
And a short introductory scene, where we interrupted some creature, which led to a chase, which led to a 50th story fight, which led to the inevitable and satisfying "push the creature off the balcony" conclusion.
