An Indian friend of mine has said that Twitter (a US based IT organisation) blocked and censored all the Hindu God’s images (they are having something in there, some temple issues) and has supported the separatists group. He alleged that Westerns never want India to be at peace (I didn’t feel a thing coz I don’t get influenced by politics) and they always want Hindus to be fighting with the separatists group in their countries. I want to know how correct his allegations and news are.
In my defence : the above para is not political from any angle (albeit it looks like that from every angle), I want to know what made that friend of mine to say things like that, and even if that allegation is true then also what makes a 18 years old high school student to involve himself in such matters. So, my question is two folds: 1. Are those things true? 2. The psychological view of what he said.
@Safdar Suspension on parent site and suspension on chats are two different things. You may get suspended on parent site but you can talk in chats without any prohibitions.
@Knight When we get banned don't we get reset to 1 until the end of the suspension? So if I didn't have another site where I have earned more than 20, doesn't the chat privilege get temporarily disabled? Atleast until I gain an aggregate of 20 rep from other sites or when the ban ends?
@Knight idk anything about the political part but the part about banning images of hindu gods doesn't seem true, I mean it's easy to find lots of pics of them by searching twitter
For example, you can see in my chat profile that I have Mathematics as the parent site. So if I get suspension on MathOverflow, I still can chat. If I get suspended on Mathematics, I can no longer use chat.
@AlexanderGruber I am fairly certain that Twitter works with various governments to censor things regionally. I don't see how they could operate in places like China, otherwise (they do operate in China, no?).
@Safdar Maybe you do, after all. That long list of associations with 101 XP makes it hard to tell.
@XanderHenderson My intentions weren't RH, but to open a restaurant where animals can bring their families to eat. But of course, they need to know how to pay..
@XanderHenderson Nah.. I think the cats priority would be to rule in house. They need servants. The family acts as those servants. Getting a cat should be safe as long as you obey it.
@Safdar Did something happen (something like heated arguments or alike over twitter) for Dorsy to act like that? Personally, I never understand these religion things but who knows! It’s today only that my Indian friend made those remarks.
@Knight That is because it happened today.. There is a very large sense of nationalism flowing through India right now with the whole Indo-China stuff going on.. this is pretty much a side effect of that.
@Safdar Now, can you please shed some light on the psychological part of my question? (If any member have any problem please feel free to interrupt, I shall surely stop my irrelevant stuffs)
@Knight That is also the psychological part. Hindutva and nationalism is what drives the country right now. If you feel up to it, you could read the party manifesto of BJP (ruling party) which should give you a better idea.
@Safdar if you get suspended on the site that is your chat parent the suspension is transmited to your chat user. It then is recorded on the chat user as a chat suspension and won't go away by switching.
@Safdar At any point in time you have designated one site as your chat parent. If you get suspended on that parent site, then the suspension is transmitted to your chat user. (Once it is transmitted it is valid and is unaffected by later changes.) If you get suspended on any other site is does not affect your chat user.
In a way the way this is done is not very logical, but obviously just having an obscure chat parent does not make one immune to chat suspension as we can always suspend manualy.
@quid Well, for scientific purposes on what exactly happens. Does it give you a message stating that you can't talk b/c you are banned? Stuff like that.
@Safdar You get a message for a site suspension. Wrt chat suspensions: No message is sent to you, but you learn immediately when you try to go to a chatroom, where in the text box in which you'd normally comment, you are informed that the account is suspended.
@Knight I'd say "Westerners" in the sense of the overwhelming part of the general population have no clue whatsoever about Indian politics. Maybe some know there is some problem in the Kashmir region but that's that. I don't mean this in any dismissive way but it just is not a subject in any way. (Maybe UK is different, not sure.)
@quid Absolutely. If a student ever ends an not-quite-coherent-but-not-entirely-inchoate argument with "or something", I will happily give them credit.
@Xander I'm guessing @quid requires his students to write $x \cdot x \cdot x \cdot x \cdot x \cdot x\cdot x \cdot x \cdot x \cdot x$ instead of $x^{10}$
