@XanderHenderson For some reason tattletale makes me think of rattlesnake.
And now battleship.
My brain is doing weird stuff now.

Hey now, don't publicize that.
=P
@user21820 I can totally relate
what time is it for you?
Time to eat.
Don't squint your eyes too often; you may get wrinkles earlier.
@user21820 if you want to remain so anonymous you can just say so xD
@user21820 not like i care 😬
04:32
@sai-kartik You know I'm joking, right?
@sai-kartik It was really time to eat. That's why I disappeared for quite a while.
=P
05:22
@user21820 yeah yeah :P

07:36
@XanderHenderson I love how he refers to his problems as samples, appetizers, meals etc to imply increasing order of difficulty :D
07:57
@OmarS What about dessert?

Finally a new chess tournament is coming up on the 21st. "Legends of Chess" with some older masters this time. (Not really old, but 40+)
@quid Nice to hear! Where can we follow it?
Certainly on chess24 likely elsewhere too @amWhy
@quid So this is one that Magnus Carlsen will have to sit out!?
@amWhy no there are also a few young players. Ding and Giri too.
@quid , anish giri world no 9?
19:09
@Arjun yes
@AT1089 hi
@quid Including Carlsen!
@amWhy,@quid, hi
Yes him Ding Giri are the younger ones. IIRC
Hello @Arjun
19:10
the user i pinged above is one of the best professors in India
let's see if he joins us sometime
@Arjun pings don't work like this.
@quid , pardon me
what else do i need to do/
@Arjun you cannot ping user that never were here
@quid ,that's new to me. By here you mean in any of the rooms?
yes
19:15
@Arjun If your professor is on math.se, you can invite them to a chatroom.
here is he
I dream of getting taught my him
19:38
@amWhy, what do you think?
hi.
is sin(x)= cos (x+90degree) or sin(x)= -cos (x+90degree)
user434058
@MadSpaces The latter.
could you tell me where the minus sign comes from? i dont get it
user434058
@MadSpaces cos(x+90)= -cos(180-(x+90))= -cos(90-x)= -sin x
19:44
This might help in imagining
@FakeMod , that's even more complex bro!
user434058
@Arjun Ah, I see, you use a Lenovo Tab :-) . As a general advice, whenever posting Google search links, just remove the ending stuff of the link.
@FakeMod ,my man! Indian?
user434058
@Arjun Nah, that's straightforward:-)
@FakeMod ,for me n u tho
Obviously he is a good scientist but a bad teacher.
If you ever find yourself writing formulas without giving any explination you should know you are a bad teacher.
user434058
19:47
@MadSpaces Haha :P
but thanks for the explination i can understand it
user434058
@MadSpaces Alright, so which formulas are the ones that you know as of now?
user434058
@MadSpaces Oh, nice, then. :-)
One of the best professors in my college usually have very few people in his lectures. because no one goes there. because he explains terrible. but he is best researcher
user434058
@MadSpaces happens... I've heard of such profs.
19:49
@MadSpaces ,hmm,usual story in IIT's ;-)
anyway thanks for the answer. have a good evening
user434058
@Arjun AFAIK, IITs are good. For example, see the NPTEL course series by V. Balakrishnan (IITM) and Charudatt Gadolkar (IITG). They're ::TA:: "noice".
user434058
@MadSpaces Have a good evening.
@FakeMod ,not all profs there are good teachers, talk to some IIT guy he'll tell you the reality 😂
Btw, it's late so good night
user434058
@Arjun I don't have to talk to any other students, my teachers have told me enough of those "Life in IITs" tales :P
19:54
@FakeMod ,read them
user434058
@Arjun Good night!
user434058
@Arjun Read what?
@FakeMod ,what IIT guys say about life there, maybe Quora has some good answers for this
user434058
@Arjun Quora is a time sink (so is SE, but at least you feel smarter after wasting an hour on SE, but on Quora, you just feel that you wasted your time :P)
@FakeMod ,there are some good writers also
Everywhere, there is something you can learn
user434058
20:04
@Arjun Sure :-)
20:44
@Xander, @quid, @user21820 Words that Rhyme with FILE. To start you off: MILE, CROCODILE, DIAL, ...
^^^ Might not be terribly fruitful. I can think of three more words, and one River, and a Name...
Actually, I'm up to six words that rhyme with File, in addition to what I've already posted. @quid I challenge you to name three of them! ;D
Now I'm up to nine additional words!!
Oh well, sorry if everyone is bored with the "What rhymes with _____ " question in this chat.
21:25
@amWhy you're VILE ;D
So I'll cover you with a PILE
and each TILE
DEFILE
TRIAL
@XanderHenderson That's one I missed!! Yay for you!!
@quid I'll give you a VIAL of valium to quiet you from accusing me of being VILE!
@amWhy well, now you want to drug me. Proves my point exactly.
STYLE
@quid Hah! :P
What famous River rhymes with FILE?
21:31
@amWhy was that a SMILE?
@XanderHenderson Doesn't that discriminate against animals? :D
@quid Good one! I missed that one!!
ISLE and AISLE
Kile maybe?
Also Kyle
@quid That's the name I was thinking of.
@amWhy you google links always confuse me; it's a LaTeX thing to me.
WHILE
@quid Yes, that's what I linked to, a Wikipedia article about a LaTeX thingy!
Kile is a TeX/LaTeX editor to edit TeX/LaTeX source code. It runs on Unix-like systems including Mac OS X and Linux, as well as Microsoft Windows via the KDE on Windows initiative, with the Qt and KDE libraries installed. == Name and Pronunciation == Kile means tickle or wedge in Norwegian, the native language of some of the Qt developers. As such, its proper pronunciation is /kiːlə/ and not /kaɪl/. == Features == Kile has many useful features needed to edit TeX/LaTeX source code, such as: One-click document compilation and display Auto-completion of (La)TeX commands Graphical lists of symbols...
21:37
So we are still searching a river.
@quid Just stop trying to RILE me up, already!! ;D
@quid Yup... four letters _ILE
@amWhy Huh? I always try to make you smile even though you are vile.
I'm not sure I'll find the river.
@quid Hah!
The Nile (Arabic: النيل‎, romanized: an-Nīl, Arabic pronunciation: [an'niːl], Bohairic Coptic: ⲫⲓⲁⲣⲟ Pronounced [pʰjaˈro], Nobiin: Áman Dawū) is a major north-flowing river in northeastern Africa, and is the longest river in Africa and the disputed longest river in the world, as the Brazilian government says that the Amazon River is longer than the Nile. The Nile is about 6,650 km (4,130 mi) long and its drainage basin covers eleven countries: Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Republic of the Sudan, and Egypt. In particular...
Ah. Of course. I should've found that.
@quid But you didn't! :P
21:44
@amWhy yes a bit embarrasing.
Everyone did great, and @Xander and @quid each found a couple I didn't think of. Because I think of almost everything, that's quite an accomplishment for you both! ;D :P
This internet search engine did better than us all, together: Words that rhyme with file:
Though some are a stretch.
@quid I have GUILE, and am not VILE ;D
21:59
@amWhy in any case one needs to be careful.
@quid Okay. I assume the one who needs to be careful is me.
@amWhy but if in the end you smile, it's all good. :-)
From the page you mentioned. Versatile.
Another name Mikhail.
Since I am very egocentric, what about words that rhyme with QUID
Liquid is easy.
Squid also.
Does liquid even rhyme? It ought to, but then the page you mentioned does not say so.
Maybe the pronunciation is different.
Actually with the "id" there are many.
@amWhy There's no ego here at all. :P
22:35
@XanderHenderson :P The comment you replied to I said in partial jest! ;D
@amWhy I was trying to figure out how to reply to both your comment, and this one.
There was an ego / id pun running around.
@quid DID (counts twice, a word, and a username)
I didn't quite pull it off. :\
CANDID
BID
22:37
@XanderHenderson Nice one!
WIT
wit doesn't rhyme with quid...
@quid Buzzer (ZONK)
AMID
ACID
@amWhy OVERBID UNDERBID
PYRAMID
@amWhy noice
22:40
SLID
Alright, I'll leave you alone with your weird language, where isle rhymes with dial, but wit does not rhyme with bid. ;-)
@XanderHenderson Noice!
@quid How do you pronounce t? How do you pronounce d?
@quid WITH (as in "Ey, youse guys! You gonna go to da bar wid me?")
@amWhy more or less the same;
@amWhy When I was driving and my car slid on the ice, I hit the brakes, and ended up in a SKID.
22:42
@quid Dat be a German bat habid.
Oh! Capital of Spain: MADRID (do proper nouns count?)
@XanderHenderson Did you kill a SQUID when you SKID?
@XanderHenderson Sure, unless I want to FORBID it! ;)
Ha!
My daughter is a cute KID.
22:45
@XanderHenderson Put a LID on it. We all know how cute your KID is! ;D
Maybe I need to be HID from QUID!
Heh. Okay, I'm out.
@amWhy maybe behind a GRID
@quid You just read my mind!! Excellent one!
@amWhy Yes, I have wit and grit and won't quit. (When I say it does rhyme with quid!)
@quid Yes, wiT and griT and won't quiT all rhyme, but not with quiD.
More like alliteration: @quid won't quit because he has wit and grit.
But sometimes will spit if he has a FIT. ;D
22:55
@amWhy let's hope I won't split.
@quid Indeed!
Just don't SIT on my flags for too long, or I may have a FIT!
@amWhy maybe I do have to split. Then there'd two of me.
@quid Hah! We need two mods like you!
But that would be a BIT too much to ask of you.
You can create a SKIT of how you would split yourself, though! But doing it in reality would probably be painful.
PIT (Can't come up with anything clever on that one). FIT
@quid If you wouldn't FLIT back and forth all the time from this site, we wouldn't need two of you. (Sorry, don't mean it, but it was too fun to say anyway!).
Okay... I think I'll rest on the rhyming game for now. ;D
23:12
@amWhy indeed in the end I'll fall in a pit.
@quid ;D Just let's not PIT you against me, or me against you, unless we create a script in which Brad PITT will star for you.
oops I said I QUIT the current rhyming game. ;D
I'll let that sit.
@quid For a bit, sure, let that sit!
@quid I hope you can get better sleep tonight (this morning)! Hopefully, construction won't be happening on Sunday.
23:30
@amWhy yes, I hope so too. But one never knows.
@quid Dat true! I had to live with a construction project in my neighborhood, scheduled from July last year through September, but persisted through January this year due to extremely poor planning and budget cuts.
But fortunately, @quid, I maintain a normal schedule of sleeping at night! ;D
@amWhy no, no. I work at night when it is calm. As longs as I am tired enough I sleep despite the noise.
@quid Good. I'm glad you sleep. Everyone finds what works best for them. And I agree, the calm in the night and early morning can be tremendously productive times to work.
@quid Do you take a Vitamin D_3 supplement? Because you are a night owl, you might not be getting sufficient sunlight to generate it yourself. Something to think about. But that's just a thought. And I won't mention it again.
@amWhy these days I am just inside. It could be a problem yes.
23:47
@quid I'm not huge on pushing supplements, nor taking them. But vitamin D_3 plays a huge role in mood but also counteracting diseases like what used to be known as "rickets". In any case, that's the one and only supplement I take, which I resumed upon the start of the pandemic.
Anyway, something to think about.
