I think it's worth pointing out that the site policies since the beginning of SE have expressly forbidden free speech when it comes to hate speech and stuff like that. But quid doesn't want anymore "free speech" banter... =)
@AsafKaragila I tried reading the links about Meek STV, but I am not sure of the details. From your phrasing, it seems as if it is always no worse to use all 3 votes than not.
@user21820 Huh? I explicitly said that you can talk all you want about it in this chat. (Within reasonable limits, viz the CoC)
@user21820 to reconfirm this is not possible, also see my pinned message. The point is that the full power of your vote stays with your first choice until that candidate is either definitely elected or definitely not elected. Only after that the second choice comes into play. Mutatis mutandis for second and third.
@quid What I meant is that it is worth pointing out what I stated on the election questionaire thread itself, since apparently people are not getting the point that SE was set up with explicit restrictions on free speech. But I saw that you said you would delete any more comments there on free speech, so no point.
@user21820 FYI "@user21820 I havent seen those blogs, as I said I just came to the discussion, but I have likes the comments made by GC here about free speech ( which is an issue for all communities). Yes, I agree mathematically nonsensical content should be removed but are there not already mechanisms in place for that ? Other users will point it out etc. – Rene Schipperus 20 hours ago deleted by quid♦ 19 hours ago "
@user21820 that post has an odd history that's why SE staff got involved. The last edit was then performed as a general service as he was already at it, I assume.
Es gibt zwei Arten von Mathematikern. Die einen unterscheiden zwischen angewandter Mathematik und abgewandter, die anderen zwischen reiner und unreiner.
@DanielFischer Is Google translate correct? "There are two types of mathematicians. Some distinguish between applied mathematics and averted, the others between pure and impure."
@user21820 See? That's the problem. You need to hear some things that you don't like to hear. Otherwise you get stuck in a feedback echo chamber. Unlike @SimplyBeautifulArt
I'll try not to ping you, SimplyBA unless I am answering directly to you. It's just weird in chat, when I comment, because my fingers are now on automatic mode when talking with or about someone... they want so badly to hit the @ in @username.
Did anyone else notice that two chat users (neither of whom can "write" or comment), visited this chat for awhile less than two hours ago? One identicon stuck out like a sore thumb. If no-one noticed such, no worries.
@Shog9: I was wondering, since it seems that about 40-50% of voters probably vote within the first 36 hours or so. Do you guys have some sort of statistics about when people vote?
I would guess that might vary across sites, or more so, may depend on the time of year of an election of a site like MSE. But I have no data :( Perhaps Shog9 can enlighten us.
@AsafKaragila That could be; I was just thinking about sites, e.g., parenting, which has little bearing with academic schedules, and academic subjects, like math... But... again, just a guess.
I'd expect a similar pattern across sites too. Most voters vote early (but not often), then it trickles along, and near the end there's another small peak.
@amWhy You can (change your vote as often as you like). But, in line with Asaf's observation, there's only one badge to be earned, so why do that much work?
And one votes early to be done with it and not have to remember.
Except those who don't and remember at the last moment.
