@SimplyBeautifulArt that's hard to answer like this. But I'd say most will typically not spend more than 15-30 minutes a day on moderating. It's certainly possible to do still less without come over as too inactive. But then, it is likely not a good idea to start the task if one is not prepared to spend that amount of time.
@Prime "I want to see a mod who wants to implement a system that prevents dummy accounts from up-voting stupid questions." There is a particular user who continually creates new accounts to upvote bad questions, then when discovered their account is deleted but it starts again. It is quite frustrating but from what I hear, there is not much to do about it unfortunately.
@SimplyBeautifulArt The site has grown since then, but some info about amout of work needed from the mods can be found in the answers to: MSE and meta.MSE as seen by moderators (The answers posted there are from 2013 and 2014.)
@quid But you also do "not strictly mod things" like read posts, read comments, interacting on chat, etc, all things that inform you how to use your 10-15 minutes of strictly mod-things most efficiently, and without that outside time on this site, spending only 10-15 minutes on the site per day would be insufficient to act as a more fully informed moderator.
@amWhy yes. What I meant to convey is that being a moderator in itself does not make it necessary to spent each day an "enormous" amount of time moderating. Of course, somebody that is not pretty active on the site over all, would not make for a good moderator. (Likely they won't be elected either.)
I doubt it matters to anyone, but if anyone is wondering why I never participate anymore, the comments under each moderators nomination are pretty much the whole picture. We have someone playing needless literal word games, people calling each other bullies, people quibbling over votes/membership length ratios, and all sorts of nonsense. I popped in for the first time in awhile, saw this, and am right back out. Not that I am important. I'm not. But this is very upsetting to see.
At any rate, @TheCount. Glad to see you! You've been missed. Election time isn't pleasant for many (most?) folks. I'm sorry you didn't happen to pop in during a less polarized point in time.
@user7530 please link to the comment you are referring to, or the comment saying it was "needless", else not one is going to bother much to try and figure out who or what you are referring to.
when you hover over the left of a comment, @user7530, in chat, you'll see a drop down arrow. Click on it, then select "reply to". Doing so will allow anyone to click on a grayed out arrow that will then appear (slight indentation of your comment), to follow what or who you are replying to.
@user7530 If you were replying to @SimplyBeautifulArt, they merely commented about a new candidate announcing their candidacy. Since that time, the user Arnaud D. commented below that comment. I don't see any one, anywhere, suggesting it was not polite. But then again, perhaps someone suggested otherwise in this chat or in a comment below the announcement, and then quickly deleted the comment.
@user7530 Ahh, I see. Most likely the Count was referring to comments below many, if not all the candidates announcements, and answers to the questionnaire. In any case, I agree that Arnaud D's comment seems entirely respectful.
