option B) Batman's gambit: she hoped that Sunset would go to the other dimension, find herself in a world without magic and finally learn humility/empathy. At the end it took Twilight to mix things up but the result was reached anyway.

consider that EVERY pony has a double in the mirror world.

Even Sunset.

There was some plan for either a movie or a special episode that would have shown what happened to the human Sunset when the pony replaced her.

sadly that was dropped, but one possible interpretation is that the "human" Sunset was kept hidden in Equestria.

That movie could have ended with them "switching up" again.

That way you still had a Sunset in the EG world (exactly how Sci-Twily replaces pony Twily from the 3rd movie onward) and the original Sunset could have been added back in the show.

.... Considering the timing...

It was recently revealed that she was indeed planned to have an human counterpart, but the episode that should have included that was cut because... reasons. The only remaining proof of this is a tweet by Nick Confalone, former staff member for the Equestria Girl show. In the tweet he posted this...

In OPTC one of your two captains during any level is a character you picked from the active captains in your friend list (this is why you want to be "friend" with whales)

Now, apparently they added a new unit whose ability is specifically worded so that it can't work when picked as friend.

notice how the unit needs to either be the main captain (== not a friend captain) or in the middle right row (== not friend captains, that is top left)

Apparently players are kinda mad
