Hi all!! I'm excited to be running for the moderator position. I'm happy to answer any questions that you might have.

@MichaelWehar Could you restrain your enthusiasm a bit, and not write things like "I'm always happy to look at and investigate papers that try to resolve these kinds of questions" in comments to certain questions? You know...

@ThomasKlimpel Hi Thomas, I'm an enthusiastic person and I'm not going to stop being enthusiastic. But, it is important that I refrain from commenting when I shouldn't and I do comment when I should intervene.
So that particular quesiton has a minus 3.  It probably has a minus three because it links to a paper that claims to resolve P vs NP.
I don't think there is anything wrong with asking questions about proposed P vs NP proofs.  But, I think it can often annoy community members and it can be an issue if someone is trying to promote their own proposed P vs NP proof.
In this particular case, I felt that maybe I should intervene, but I wasn't quite sure what the best way to intervene was.  My original thought was telling the author of the post, we can chat about this proposed proof in the chat instead.

My current thought is maybe we should just have a separate page, chat, or thread specifically for proposed P vs NP proofs.  That way to reduce the number of these kinds of questions.  What do you think?
I modified my original comment to say, "This question may be more appropriate for the chat or in an offline discussion."

@MichaelWehar Well, one of the advantages of conducting discussions about ambitious papers exclusively in chat is that you need at least 20 reputation points, before you can talk in chat. This significantly reduces the amount of noise that you have to deal with. On the other hand, suggesting to a new user that he should ask his question in chat is a bit ... well, most new users are not too responsive anyway, so I guess they won't even try to ask in chat.
In general, I think that this is a page for professional researchers, so questions of this level about proposed P vs NP proofs are simply off-topic, especially for new users.
