oh is it
what is the new problem which you are planning to solve?
6 hours later…
Sam
07:02
@Toros91 Are you a night owl or in a different country than I am (UK)?
Toros91
I'm in Singapore man!
so our time zones are messed up!
:D
I sleep at 1
Sam
Ohhhhhhhh
Looks like a dope place!
What's the ML industry like over there?
Toros91
It being a financial hub, it has too many companies.
But they are not clear on what they want
luckily in the company which I'm working I got a good Manager and a CTO who has a vision for the company
Sam
Despite what they want - do they still hire hire hire?
Toros91
how about UK?
Despite what they want - do they still hire hire hire?- Exactly
Sam
07:09
Yeah booming. In my next move I want to go further into deep learning though
Hopefully in the fintech industry
Toros91
yeah, I was trying to apply in UK but nothing worked out
Hopefully in the fintech industry - you would get it
Sam
Yeh? What makes you so certain ;)
Toros91
currently they are in the booming state in an year or so they would be matured
so just wait
in the mean time you can actually get exposure of diff domains
Sam
07:26
At the moment I'm working on some theoretical understanding of the subject. My latest self-project is to begin implementing various optimisation algorithms. SGD, Adam, Ada etc
Toros91
yeah yeah you can get there
I've done 3-4 projects in Deep Learning but i'm not well-worse with it
Sam
The problem is it changes so freaking damn much. By the time you learn the current standards someone comes out with something new
I blame Hinton and Le Cunn
Toros91
even if they change but the base would be same. learning this would take us forward
so don't worry
it wouldn't be waste
Sam
That's why I'm more focused on the foundations. Everything else is building blocks with a different cherry on top
Toros91
true I totally agree with that
Sam
07:37
How involved in the Math are you with your current job?
Toros91
not much!
it is all about forecasting and predicting. Not much of math.
Since I'm from a Math background I look into all the necessary Statics values
Sam
Pure math background?
Toros91
in my Masters it was 40%
Sam
Fair enough. I have a cs background so my math is somewhat limited in advanced calculus..
After I've learned optimisation I'm going to pivot my focus to probability theory
Toros91
hmmm true
I did my 1st Masters in IT as well
After I've learned optimisation I'm going to pivot my focus to probability theory- tha tis gng to help us alot when we try understanding in and out
Sam
07:47
Yeah for sure. I've already got a book at the ready for prob theory
Toros91
very good
keep it up!
Sam
Thank you :D
