@shp999 "human brain in general involves aspects which are unnecessary to our survival (if determinism is true)." ...I think you're assuming way too many unspoken things.
"you are equating subjective experience to feelings, I equate it more to awareness." The term "subjective" is very well established and is pretty clear. If you want to talk about awareness, we have a word for that already... it's spelled awareness.
Regarding assumptions, (1) having agency or awareness necessarily has real effects on reality, as evidenced by the ability to simply have a discussion about such things. Given it can have an effect at all, you would have to argue that it would have no benefit.
(2) This aspect notwithstanding, it's not necessary for something to be "of use" in order for it to evolve

The question was asked if the universe is a simulation. Me: the hardware is vulnerable to Meltdown and the kernel has error messages in Hebrew.

@Joshua Regarding simulations I hadn't thought about the hardware running the simulation melting down or crashing for some reason. Simulated universes would be rather fragile.

@FrankHubeny: you know Meltdown is a flaw in Intel processors that lets user mode code read kernel memory, right?
