12:30 PM
I'm working on my 32 bit install. It should be up in a few minutes.
Actually, I'll be using a 64 bit 14.04 server install, instead.

12:46 PM
@Quentin Are you able to type in the room now?
@Quentin I have other Gurus that are helping me to fix the chat problem here. Give a minute.
@Quentin I made another change. Will you try now?
@Quentin Thanks. Give me a second to check another setting and give you an update.
@Quentin For your information, the sicussion in fixing the problem is happening here: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/201/ask-ubuntu-general-room

1:51 PM
@L.D.James I believe Quentin can not enter here with 1 rep only - I tried to give them write access but this did not work - you should - as room owner - however also be able to do that.

@Takkat Thanks... Can you advise me how? Give me a sec and I'll show you the error message I get when I try it.
When I click on "Explicit write access" it gives this error:
Users must have at least 20 reputation to talk
Is there a way to add owner?
If there is, I wold add you as an owner, then you can check the feature first hand.

@L.D.James I was reading a bit (never did that before) but we need to be a mod to be able to let a <20 user write in chat - but that did not work as expected.

I guess it's a bug. As you can see the "Explict write access" says:
------------------------------------
Even when this room is read-only or their reputation is too low, these users will be able to talk in this room.
------------------------------------
Which appears to be stating that the owner can override the <20 limit.

yeah there is no error but also no user in that list. :(

I added the user to the list by entering his stackexchange userID.

2:03 PM
I by askubuntu profile link... the ID is unknown to the chat system
So I will try with the SE ID that may be it

AFAIK, the room needs to be created with "Moved to chat"

Did you use this ID? 348438
Or this URL?
https://chat.stackexchange.com/users/348438/quentin

@L.D.James yeah that was it !
Where did you get that ID from?

@Fabby I understand about the move to chat feature. The private room is different... which I'm trying to get some understanding about.

@L.D.James this is not a private room - everybody can enter.

2:08 PM
I got it by clicking on his icon when he was in this room. That is is stackexchange.com id, which is separate from his askubuntu.com id.

Ah - he was already here, that makes sense then.
So you need to invite them ow so that they get noticed

Thanks... @Takkat I know it's not private. I used that word as a shorthand method of describing user created chatroom.
I had chosen to make it public intentionally.
I gave him the notice in the comments section.
He came to the room... this gave the ID.
Since you now got paste your previous error, is he able to talk in this room now?
@Fabby Is thre a user access feature called "Moved to chat"?

@L.D.James he should be able to - just invite him and see.

@Takkat He's invited. He already posted that he'll be back tomorrow. I'll give you a nudge with the results.

2:23 PM
@L.D.James there was this thing that they may only be able to talk for 4 hours... event after mod acess but I dunno whether it still is so. If that is the case then give me (or any other mod) a shout tomorrow. I usually lurk in the main chat.

I appreciate the assistance in getting a better grasp of these features of SE.
Thanks... and sure thing.

there are far too many features to get a grasp ;)
see you -bye

On the many features... I don't mind. I would problably be bored if I knew everything and there was nothing else to learn.
See you -bye.

3:06 PM
@L.D.James Sorry, was cooking.
It's a mod thing or automatic on a question, not on an answer.

No problem... I understand. It takes me a while to respond at times between otehr events. Speaking of cooking, I'm about to do the same... between browsing and typing.
As far as the invite to room feature, I believe Takkat get it worked out. I"m seeing his name in the "write access" list. I won't know if it's working until he returns tomorrow.

@Fabby cooking ... drinking ... smoking ... :D :D :D Good afternoon my friend ! :) isos still booting ? :D :D :D

3 hours later…
5:59 PM
